“Bad experience”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2010

Overall we had a bad experience and were made to feel unwelcome.

Difficult to find especially at night, didn't get a tour of facilities, you are not allowed to eat in the room, breakfast was served at 8.30 (even though info says between 8 and 9). Water pressure poor. No local info or suggestions on local restaurants in the room.

You have to fit in with their timetable.

Would not go back.

I stumbled accross Lower Barn on the internet looking for accommodation which could accommodate elderly parents with walking difficulties for a special suprise weekend away.

I havent stayed in Cornwall for some years and following Janies excellent directions the drive to the barn was very pretty through narrow country roads and it felt like a real adventrure for us all. From the minute we arrived, I knew that we had discovered a very special B&B and every part of the BB from the beautifully decordated bedrooms to the gardens have been done with the right balance of artistic flair and contemporary style by the owners.

We stayed in one of the rooms in the main house and loved the seperate conservatory looking out into the very pretty garden. The bed was huge and very comfortable and the little touches such as toiletries in the bathroom and the complimentary chocolates and plenty of milk for tea in our room were really appreciated.

Other things that really helped our stay with two sets of elederly parents in our group were the ground floor rooms one of which has a wheelchair ramp and wet room making getting around much easier for anyone that finds steps difficult. Thanks also to Mike for being able to provide a chair to use while taking a shower in the wet room, not many hotels or B&B are able to offer this.

The breakfast around the friendly round dining table made breakfast fun and sociable and the breakfast options include a vedgetarian option, using locally produced produce and it was exceptionally good.

Mike and Janie the owners of this B&B have created a wonderful sanctuary, even before we arrived they were very helpful and are clearly passionate about service so that guests have a comfortable stay. Sadly we didnt have time to experience the massage and facials or use the Gym but other guests that were staying did and were very complimentary. We did get to enjoy the Jacuzzi on the deck with a glass of something chilled in our hands enjoying the peace and tranquility of the location.

Just a few minutes from the Lost Gardens of Heligan and lots of pretty coastal fishing villages, beaches and places to visit every day this is a wonderful place to stay and we will definately be returning to enjoy it again in the future.

Highly reccomended from someone who works in the holiday travel business!!

What a find! After a long drive from Hertfordshire we were made welcome by the most delightful B&B ~ Lower Barn. Wes stayed in the Hideaway which is true to it's name - a wonderful room to relax and undwind after exploring the many sights of North Cornwall. Decoration is creative and inspiring and have little touches that make your stay memorable.

The owners Janie and Mike along with Jazz the dog are superb hosts with years of knowledge of the area. Breakfasts are relaxed and plentyful and certainly set you up for the day!

We will be back - that's for sure!! Highly recommended!

Persevere down the rather hairy narrow lanes of St Ewe and you'll be well rewarded with this hidden gem! Very stylish yet everything is designed for comfort and relaxation. We stayed in the beautiful garden hideaway, perfect for a romantic getaway or if you like your privacy. The furnishings are gorgeous - you'll want to make notes! Breakfast was fabulous - lots of options and a real leisurely treat. Lower Barn is well worth the journey and we'll definitely stay there again!

We booked for three nights, but could only stay for two (we were charged for three). The accomodation is modern and clean, but the bedroom and bathroom we were given were very small and cramped. The food quality was good and the service efficeient and friendly. It is in a very isolated location and can only be reached via very narrow country roads. Overall good quality but very overpriced in comparision to other places we stayed

Don't often stay in B&B's, normally quality hotels. This was a last minute booking last week and we booked the Hideaway. Quite the best room and setting we have stayed in anywhere for years irrespective of price. Cooked breakfast was excellent. Difficult to imagine a better place in the West Country. Miss it and you'll be disappointed.

Excellent little B&B in the middle of nowhere, literally, don't follow the Sat Nav - we got lost for ages in the middle of a field!

But this place was worth getting lost for.

Comfy rooms, lovely decor, great breakfasts, and nice hot tub.

Great for a little retreat, and quiet time.

Thanks for a great stay.
