“Nice surprise.”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

This place was a lovely surprise. Situated the right side of Paris for our homeward channel crossing and with splendid views of that city from our large and comfortable room ( Pompadour). Our hosts made us most welcome and served us a very accomplished dinner with an easy going charm. Saint Prix itself is equally charming and feels more rural than it's location should allow. The bill was a surprise too - in a good way.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of Paris.

This was a business trip, and our host put us here so that we would be well positioned to take a taxi to the airport for an early morning departure after two nights. What a find! It is located in a quiet, centuries old village on the outskirts of Paris, but unbelievably frozen in time. From an overlook in the centre, the Eiffel Tower can be seen low down in the distance.

the rooms are furnished in beautiful antiques, and the dining area is equally tasteful. The high point is the sumptuous food, prepared by the couple who operate the hotel. Prices are reasonable.

the village is very quiet, so you would need transportation, or be content to stay in a locale with about 5,000 other inhabitants.

Also, given the age of the building, there are no elevators, so you will need to carry your own luggage. I had the uppermost room, however, and thought it was fine.

This review doesn't address the hotel part of the business: I didn't stay there, but it doesn't look bad. It's about the restaurant that seems to be the main focus of the owner.
One thing that's not debatable is the location. You're actually steps away from a great natural forest, in a good-looking old-timers village only 20 minutes away from downtown Paris. Hard to beat. Parking next to the place, rare in France.
The food is rather good, even on the fair-priced lunch set-menu even though there's hardly any choice on this one. A la carte dishes seem appealing, but wine is obviously what matters most here. A lot of off-the-mainstream offers, by the bottle or by the glass (with a significant upmark). Two small dining-rooms, one of them quite pretty. Service is unpredictable, this isn't a chain place, and they probably can't hire experienced waitstaff. But it works out.
All in all, not a bad place to grab a bite, and down a couple glasses, if you happen to be around.

Quiet hotel in St Prix. Odd little town above Paris (GREAT view) on the fringe of a forest about 20 mins from CDG airport. Wonderful hosts who upgraded us to their best room as we were three and it was not occupied that evening. Victor Hugo suite was gorgeous. Wonderful meal in intimate dining room. A great place to stop over before the airport.

As a previous reviewer wrote, the lack of reviews made me a bit intimidated, but luckily for us I overcame my hesitation. This is a wonderful small hotel in a great location -- less than 20 minutes from CDG, but on the edge of a beautiful forest. We booked it for our last night in France, after driving for almost 2 weeks through the Loire, Dordogne and Brittany. It might be a bit difficult to find at first, but email or call for directions and it should not be a problem. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and spotless, and our room was lovely. We enjoyed our stay at the Hostellerie immensely, including a delicious dinner in their beautiful restaurant next door. The owners, Frederique and Yves (who is also the chef at the restaurant) are absolutely lovely -- the perfect hosts. We would love to return for a longer stay, and hopefully one day, will do so. The hotel's website is www.hostelduprieure.com

Stayed in Victor Hugo Suite with my husband and 12 year-old son at the end of our 3 weeks trip to France!
Original place to stay in a short train ride to Paris (15 min to Gare du Nord), in a little town away from the bustle and the traffic!
Easy access to Charles de Gaulle airport by car.
All the Hotel beautiful decorated, very comfortable and clean (the room, the public areas and the breakfast room).
Kind and helpful staff at the Hotel (Fernanda was the best!!) and the restaurant. We had dinner both nights at the restaurant "Au Grace de Dieu", that belongs to the same owners and it is next to the Hotel. and the food was delicious!!!
I definitely recommend staying in Hostellerie du Prieure for its charm and character, the good food and the familiar ambience!!

  • Liked — the room, the food and the ambience
  • Disliked — the noise from the aircrafts ( despite of the airport being 25 km away from Saint-Prix !!)

Everything about this small hotel is just right – the rooms, the furnishings, the restaurant, the village of Saint Prix and the very warm welcome from the owners Frederique and Yves Farouze.

The 8 rooms are all furnished differently. I and a colleague stayed in two rooms called “Romance” and “Pompador”. Romance is a reasonable-sized room; Pompador is large, with a view over Paris in the distance. Everything one could need is provided - bath robes, room safe, mini-bar, flat screen TV, bath and shower, a good array of towels and face cloths, shampoos, soaps and bath salts – all of a quality more reminiscent of a good 4 star or even 5 star hotel. Room prices were in range Eur 100-130 excluding breakfast.

Free of charge Internet Wifi is available to guests with their own laptop computers. On the first day of my visit the owner did not know the newly introduced Wifi security key. Without any hesitation he generously brought down his own, already set up laptop, for us to use. The missing codes were available on the second day.

Similarly the owners could not have been more helpful in printing out directions for best routes to and from Le Bourget and Charles de Gaulle airports to avoid traffic jams.

The next door up-market restaurant “ A la Grace de Dieu”, owned by the hotel is excellent, both in terms of food, décor and atmosphere, full of local clientele enjoying a special evening out.
Set meals are priced at Eur 28 and Eur 38, but a bottle of wine will add a further Eur 25-35 to the bill. Add another Eur 10 for aperitif and coffee.

Why do I mention “Initial hesitations”?
- no reviews in Trip Advisor
- why were rooms available at time of Paris Air Show, when every other hotels for miles
around was fully booked
- website information (not the hotel’s own website), stating that “you may check in
from 17:00 hours” did not sound welcoming.

I need not have worried - these misgivings promptly disappeared on arrival. True, the hotel was locked and apparently deserted, but Frederique appeared within 30 seconds of calling the phone number mentioned on the door.

Saint Prix, situated on the edge of the Forest Montmorency gives the impression of a being charming deeply rural village. Possibly this is one of the reasons for the lack of reviews and the availability of rooms at a busy time - the village may be difficult to find if you don’t have a confident map reader or a satellite navigation system. It is only on going to the church terrace with distant views of Eiffel Tower and Sacre Coeur that the proximity of Paris becomes apparent. On closer inspection there are also many discreet upmarket properties in the area.

The Hotel has its own small car park, where you could risk being blocked in. Better to go 100 metres further up the hill and use the large car park in front of the church.

  • Liked — The welcome, the quality, the food and the setting
  • Disliked — Possibly awkward to find
