You would drive by and not even realise that set back in Queens Square is a gastronomic delight in the form of The Shapla. The restaurant itself is very olde worlde set in an old building, but the food is tasty and delicious and worth the money.

This superb Indian has upped it's game even further in the last year, yet is not at all pretentious which is a mistake many of the new wave of Indian restauarants make.

Food is very fresh and beautifully spiced and cooked.

Having recently had their 24th or 25th anniversary, the Shapla Tandoori restaurant in Attleborough is obviously doing something right. Having been patron over many years, I can vouch for the excellent quality of their food, both when eaten in the restaurant or as a takeaway and personally, I have yet to find any better in the country.

The staff are pleasant and gracious; patient and attentive when you’re dining in the restaurant and escorting you to and opening the door for you to head off into the night with your takeaway. I have often asked them to adjust my meal slightly and this off-menu request has been accommodated without any hesitation and any very rare mistakes with the order are dealt with promptly without query.

The restaurant can accommodate couples or large groups and so the atmosphere can be varied depending on what parties are attending that evening or what time or day of the week. The usual rules apply; early sittings on a week day = quiet or large groups at the weekend = lively/noisy.

We have no qualms about popping in for a quick, cheap meal or taking our time with several courses and drinks in between. The restaurant is just as accommodating either way and I'm usually concentrating on my own table and the excellent food so don't notice anything else.

With a 20% discount on takeaways, phone orders usually take around 40 minutes but it is well worth the wait. If you do arrive early to collect your meal, there’s a small seated area in the back of the restaurant where you can sit out of the way, read the local papers and munch on Bombay mix .

Reliable and delicious food.
