Renovated and re-opened within the last twelve months and now run by the tried and tested owners of two other successful local pubs the Red Lion will hopefully prosper. Centrally located within the village it has a very pleasant bar area to fulfil the function of the local watering hole while the rest of the building is primarily set up for eating. A fairly short but manageable menu is featured and most tastes should find something to suit. My starter was large and tasty, slow cooked belly of pork, but it had dried out a little in re-heating so was not quite as delicious as it could have been. My wife’s chicken tikka salad was unusual but I was assured very tasty, while my main of calves liver was excellent – cooked just pink with a very tasty onion gravy; very good. The ‘pudding eater’ gave the pudding full marks.
So a very pleasant evening, some good food well cooked but not always perfect, and at a reasonable price. I hope the Red Lion prospers under its new owners; it is certainly worth a visit.
