“Familiar local Pub reopens with a really creative & exciting menu ...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

I always look forward to revisiting a newly refurbed "familiar local pub" to experience someone else's interpretation of what they think people might enjoy & I wasn't disappointed. I thought the menu was creative, exciting and interesting something for everyone. The food was first class & beautifully presented with delicious flavours. I had the scrummiest starter of short sticky beef rib (sliced meal only) with radish & my friend had a pork croquetas; Plaice on the bone with samphire (prefer mine cooked until soft this wasn't cooked enough for me personally) - haven't seen Plaice on any menu for a while & my friend had a stunning piece of Hake, then we shared the most delightful prettiest Panna Cotta with a mango smooth puree? topping, coconut shortbread biscuits & coconut ice cream - it was heaven on a plate! Perhaps a minor criticism would be lighting just needs dimming down to create a bit more of a warmer cozier atmosphere for the evening but like all newly decorated places it takes time for it to become lived in & for the newness to wear off - it was a Monday night also. Good luck to you & I sincerely hope you get the support you deserve & I look forward to visiting again with more friends. I would certainly recommend the Crown to you all ... especially now as the Teddy Bears are up for viewing in the village ... go see the Teddy Bear trail & then have lunch or dinner as we did last night! We also popped out to the Beer Garden (not Bear - maybe your should have had a Bear Garden) on our way out which looks very pleasant too with modern wicker seating overlooking a further grassed area.

“New experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2014

Sunday afternoon, newly opened and nicely presented environment. We arrived at 14:00 only two options on menu as sold out of roast, disappointing. Overtime I think the place will develop personality and ambiance, but not there yet! Lovely waitress tall and elegant, very courteous and accommodating. Would most definitely give it another go

“Menu lacks variation and expensive.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

Booked a table at the Crown for a Tuesday evening visit. On entering the establishment we found it to be very clean and tidy, tables well placed and nicely apart.
One can choose a 3 course meal, we went for the main meals only, the choice was very poor with a list of 6-7 variation of meals, we made our choices and waited in anticipation.
When served the presentation was not very good and for the price one would have hoped for a better presentation. The plate was barely filled, which was disappointing. No one wishes for a plate full of chips, but 5 chips to a plate was a little mean. Quite expensive for what we received.

This is a village pub serving and pricing at a city level. Very disappointing.

Personally we do not like to see the chef standing at the bar at such an early period of the evening.

“A breath of fresh air for Great Ellingham”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

A village needs a pub that welcomes locals, as well as those seeking good food. The Crown in Great Ellingham achieves both clienteles: the diners can be oblivious of the "drinkers" (if they wish); the locals who just want a drink feel utterly comfortable, without any sense of simply being 'tolerated', or forced to eat. The food is delicious; not cheap, but well worth it for taste, excellent preparation and balance. The beer is well-kept and you can't give much higher praise to a pub. Overall, an extremely pleasant place to be.

“The Crown, Great Ellingham”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

We were really looking forward to The Crown reopening in the village and we're not disappointed. The new refurbishment and the very welcoming staff did not disappoint, we were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in the door. We had booked a table in the restaurant, and had a lovely meal with very friendly service. In fact, we are booked in again this weekend!
Thank you and congratulations to all involved, will be back very soon.
