I agree with most of the reviews on here. Booked into the hotel for a 2 night stay and was pleasantly surprised. Big rooms with kitchenette, sitting room, large double bedroom and shower/bathroom. Decor rather dated but clean and the staff were very accomodating for any of your needs.
Sea views are amazing if you can get over the constant noise of a very busy dual carriage way in front of the hotel. Even sitting round the pool can be a little challange with the continual drone of fast traffic.
We ate in Claros on the first night and although I enjoyed my fish...to have it served with crisps was rather unusual... a potato and some veg would have been a better choice so on the second night we wandered into town..15min walk away again along that very busy road, and found some lovely little restaurants and local bars which were well worth the walk.
I wouldn't want to put anyone off this hotel but just be prepared to take your life in your hands when walking alongside 'that' road and the constant drone from traffic.

Prior to writing a review, I always carefully browser through previous comments. Like I did before I selected the place to stay. It's often too easy to reflect negative sensations or to be too positive as well.

Some of the criticisms concerning the hotel are correct. But... when you look at the price level, they probably are written by people who still expect that one can buy a golden ring while paying for copper.

So, here we go: the rooms are extraordinarily big. Suite-like. With living room, kitchenette, bathroom and royal bedrooms. I often pay several hundreds of euros for a room the size of a dog shed in Brussels, Paris, London, Munich... and here, I get 12 times the size for the 1/8 of the price. Yes, they need some upgrades here and there. Nonetheless, a well sized brand new plasma flat screen is included (4x the size of what I often get in aforementioned cities for 300 euros per night).

Cleaning and service are impeccable. And the hotel receptionists are (all of them), very helpful and kind.

Yes, the hotel is near a busy dual carriage way leading into Lisbon. But the double glazing is not too bad. So, unless you're a light sleeper, no problem at all. Definitely not bigger a problem than top class hotels in twice aforementioned cities (I left out New York or Hong Kong, as they are out of category, price wise and noise wise).

Rooms with a sea view are advisable (forget about the noise naggers): sunrise and sunset are gorgeous, but also the view during the day.

Last but not least, there's the more than excellent restaurant "Claro!" so, what more can one ask for.

Not the most modern, super-duper luxurious hotel in the world, but when it comes to price/quality... just great! If you look for a special haven, with a price tag that your mother may remember: this is the place to be.

I'll definitely be back.

The Solar Palmeiras has an amaizing view on the sea. The food is great and the personnel very kind.
The rooms are big, but the furniture is old.
There's a train station at around 700 m from the hotel to go to city center or to Estoril...

There were some great things about this hotel and some very bad things. Pros: really big rooms, lots of comfort, two balconies, nice beach across the street, swimming pool on premises and nice breakfast in the morning. Cons: no iron (which is really terrible, and not only for a business traveler), lots of noise coming from the main street, shower head was broken and made a terrible mess in the bathroom, and finally, the staff was not the nicest I've ever encountered.

The pictures skilfully conceal the fact that the hotel is literally sandwiched between a busy dual carriageway at the front and a busy commuter railway line at the back (at first floor level) I had a front room and found the double glazing only marginally reduced the noise which went on well into the early hours and was made worse by there being a traffic light just outside.
The location meant that pedestrian access to to the hote lis only by walking half a mile in either direction alongside the dual-carriageway so a car is essential.
This is a great pity as the rooms are very spacious, well fitted out and spotlessly clean the staff were very friendly and helpful. Cant comment on the food as the speciality is fish to which I am allergic but the breakfast buffet was fine.
If the noise doesn't bother you and you simply want a base for touring the area this hotel offers good value for money.

Room Tip: Road noise at the front, Train noise at the back, take your pick.

I've been there for only one night and I was so sorry not to have more days to be there...why? cozy athmosphere, boutique style, great bar and restaurant, huge rooms with separated living room, amazing views over the ocean, super balcony... as it was cold, it was imposible to use the pool - but I'm looking forward to go there again in the summer and enjoy it also!... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I stayed at this hotel for a work trip, a colleague booked it. I was pleasantly surprised with its coastal location. When I arrived I was met by a very friendly chap at reception. My room was one of the most spacious I ever stayed in (being a more budget traveller). I can see why they're described as a junior suite. In my suite I had a kitchenette, a sitting room with a dinning room table, a large wardrobe, a big bathroom and a double bedroom. Off the bedroom and sitting room was a balcony with furniture to enjoy views of the sea.
The breakfast room has lovely views over the sea and the food was a decent array of different rationalities (croissants, ham, cheese, cereal, yoghurt etc). I think cooked breakfast was available too but I was in a rush.
I was very impressed and am considering going back with my wife to enjoy some Mediterranean weather.
