This boutique hotel was more than anticipated! The photos and reviews don't do it justice. We are in our 30s and from NYC and admittedly on the snobby side and were very impressed with le cameleon.

The hotel was very well kept and the decor was clean and modern - not sure about the reviews stating otherwise, but our room was great. The hotel is small and even with other guests it felt very private and romantic.

The beach is right across the street and amazing. There is a little section that feels very secluded that is set apart from the road by vegetation, a sitting area, and a lounge area with beds with curtains. We couldn't believe how few people there were on the beach at the hotel and nearby.

The hotel employees were mostly very helpful and accommodating with a few who stood out and took care of us for the whole trip. Outside of those individuals the customer service was inconsistent at times, but never bad.

There were partnerships with tour agencies to explore the area. It was convenient but I would recommend finding a place in the town to set up tours instead.

Food was pretty good at the hotel and the staff was very helpful recommending places in the town about 3 miles away. Drinks were good, but mild.

Over all it was an amazing trip and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic and adventurous trip in a beautiful location.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it isn't worth the money. Immediately upon entering the room I was shocked as to how run down the place looked and it's less than 2 years old! The paint was peeling and items were dingy and run down. The toilet overflowed during our first trip to the bathroom and the sinks overflowed. They did move us to another room, but it was worst in appearance then the first one. The staff kept turning down the air conditioning. Most of the staff members were nice and accommodating; the management on the other hand…. Because we weren’t pleased with the room, we wanted to leave early and go to another resort on the island. We spoke to the manager on duty and she said ok no problem. On the day we checked out it was a problem. They wouldn’t reimburse the money. The general manager claimed there was a language barrier and the manager misunderstood our request. The general manager was also aware of the other problems we’d encountered with the room and was on the property the entire time (according to him) but he never once said anything nor did he try to improve our stay. Instead, he offered a free night on our next visit. Are you kidding? Why would we come back. There are other hotels/lodges close by that are just as nice and cheaper. Stay at one of those spots instead.

We are a Costarrican family and stayed at Le Camelion during the local Semana Santa.
The hotel Staff is incredible dedicated to their guests, Edward the Manager, really went out of his way to help us in every possible way. The restaurant food is excellent and waiters are not only attentive, but anticipated our kids needs and were very patient with them.
The Beach club right outside the Hotel is incredible relaxing for both parents and kids, we were able to eat lunch and have drinks right on the beach, something you can rarely do in COsta Rica. If in Puerto Viejo do not miss the Manzanillo snorkeling and dinner at La Pecora Nera, outstanding!

Room Tip: All rooms located in same area.

We (2 adults and 1 nine-year old) loved our stay at Le Cameleon. The staff clearly works hard to provide great service. I had to call the front desk because I could not figure out how to work the shower and the safe deposit box (the written instructions were not quite accurate) . Both times they came very quickly and were very nice and courteous. The room was exactly as described on their website (we stayed at the suite). The AC worked great. The room was clean and although there were some signs of wear and tear due to the climate, overall, the room was in good shape. The beach was across the street and they have a beach club through which you can use hammocks and get towels, drinks, and food. The free hotel breakfast consisted of breads, cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice and coffee. We felt very safe at the hotel (they have a guard).

I had the most beautiful wedding on the beach at Le cameleon. I couldn't have asked for more. The property was absolutely beautiful. Our VIP coordinator Mariella was a doll and took care of everything! She was truly great. The entire staff was helpful and friendly. Let Brahim take care of you in the beach club - very professional and upbeat. The continental breakfast served was perfect. The rooms were awesome and cleaned daily. Changing the color scheme of the room daily was a nice touch. We hated to leave today and hope to be back soon.

after reading many mix reviews, we decided to give it a go.

first, we want to point out the only negative thing we found about this hotel:
we were woken up one morning by loud hammering on our window. this was not cool. we would've appreciated a little warning, instead of having to wake up wondering whats going on and open the curtains to find a man on a ladder right on top of our window.
but as you see, this did not affect our rating of this hotel, because everything else was perfect, we soon forgave this little incident.

The hotel staff is really nice, very professional, and always around to assist you.
When we first walked in to our Room, no surprises, EXACTLY like in their website, beautiful. we loved the white floors, the furniture and the decoration.
beautiful bathroom, and very nice small veranda with lots of hummingbirds flying around, which was lovely.
The fresh fruit in the morning was AMAZING! and we couldn't get enough of the home made pastries.
We had dinner at the restaurant, lobster (good) and the Snapper... this alone should put the restaurant on top of the list in Puerto Viejo. honestly, the BEST snapper we have ever had (and we did try a couple of restaurants around town)
The private beach was really nice and clean, and if you wanted corals or rocks just few minutes of walk and there were lots :) they have a beach club, where they do a heavenly Mojito here, you have to try it.
one more really neat thing: they are truly faithful to their name, our bed sheets, pillows and couch pillows changed colors every day, we came back everyday to find the room a different color, (not to mention: always clean and perfect)
Glad to have found this Boutique hotel in Puerto Viejo, will be back on our next trip to Costa Rica!

If you love yourself and that means you really have to know yourself and you are ready to meet yourself without any type of sycophants around you then you will find a magical place in El Cameleon. The staff from the guardia to the receptionist to the maids to the bar tenders to the manager to the countless other magicians make your stay feel just magical. The manager a wonderful gentle man just simply cares and that is reflected among the staff. We felt like we were family not "guests". We got a ride from a wonderful lady back to our bus in a old school Land Rover - the managers. The operative word is family. And no one knew who we were! True Escape!

Thank You Le Cameleon and say hello to Thomas!

Mike
