“Great tea shop in lovely Swaledale village”
Reviewed 29 April 2014 via mobile

We always try visiting this lovely little place when visiting the Northern Dales, usually in the middle of a walk from Keld or Gunnerside. The welcome is always friendly - boots not a problem. We only had a snack recently but the Old Peculier fruit cake with Swaledale cheese was delicious. Good scone. Very good coffee. Nice cakes which we have sampled before. Obviously popular with cyclists as well as walkers, as cyclists were arriving in droves as we left, but the staff didn't seem in the least non-plussed. Long may this tea shop prosper.

“Exceptionally friendly and welcoming place”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to welcome elderly people. They showed them to the seats, chatted and made them welcome, joked and cleaned the table, helped with the menu, were honest with whats available (especially after a busy bank holiday weekend). During the tea there was friendly and desrect banter. The service was really prompt and efficient. On leaving there was a friendly wave goodbye. All very enjoyable especially for 2 88 year old ladies.

“Faultless Service 5*”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

I felt the need to write a review for this particular tea room because hospitality and service we received was second to none. Its location in Muker has stunning views and after a long walk a coffee was calling. We sat outside as we had muddy boots and a spaniel with us, a very lovely lady insisted we came inside and we sat next to a very welcoming warm open fire. They were clearly very busy with cyclists but the service was faultless. As we had already eaten on our walk we had coffee and toasted fruit cake and the husband had fruit cake with cheese.

Another group of mamils (middle aged men in Lycra) :) arrived and I have to say the chips they ordered looked fab as did the rest of the food that came out. On my next visit I will certainly make sure I eat there and it looked like they catered well for vegetarians. The special was a root vegetable pancake which sounded lush.

The coffee was served in china pots and the whole ambience of the place was just so charming, a world away from faceless chains like Costa Coffee and the like. I overheard the owner asking the cyclists if they wanted their bottles topping up before they left. Its the small things that make all the difference to an experience even if that's just going for a coffee. To sum up friendly, thoughtful and attentive service with top quality home made food = success and my spaniel was happy to be in the warm as well and not left outside.

“Beautiful Swaledale- land of rest, ravishing scenery and really good refreshment at The Tea Room”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Yesterday 24.4. was my first visit of the year to Swaledale and of course a stop in Muker is compulsory. On a beautiful Spring day we parked, without any difficulty, walked through the meadows with the lambs gambolling in the sunshine, down to the river. Before leaving we called in at the tea room. What a delight it is- friendly service, spotlessly clean environment and excellent food. We shared a bowl of chips- certainly not frozen or out of a packet- which were very tasty and then delighted in apple and sultana cake and lemon drizzle cake. Hard to choose actually from the srumptious looking cakes all on display. It is also good to see that everything is under cover- not open to everyone's coughs and sneezes!
We lingered in that pleasant environment, a fire blazing in the corner, over a cappucino and tea, and knew that before long we will be returning.
