Atmosphere, service & food all amazing. Have now eaten here on several occasions and each time has been to the same standard in all aspects. Booking is essential.

“expensive for what you get”
Reviewed 2 October 2013

This is a very nicely decorated place, with freindly staff and a good selection of drinks. The food is a bit expensive for what you get. I had fillet of plaice, which had more bones than I would have liked and my Wife had scallops. The menu is varried and the vegetables are cooked in unusual ways, different but nice. The whole experience what not quite what we expected and we put this down to the lack of atmosphere. Although the decor is very smart, there is something lacking. It is well worth a visit though.

“Marvelous food”
Reviewed 30 September 2013 via mobile

My wife and I were visiting the area at the weekend and being as the restaurant was full where we were staying we had a drive out and found this gem of a place,we had a snack at lunchtime of steak in a ciabata style bread with hand cut chips and salad, it was absolutely lovely, so we booked a table for the evening , we had the ham hock terrine starter which was so tasty followed by ribeye steak which was perfect. The staff were charming and polite and made you feel welcome , we will certainly call again when we are down that way. It is well worth trying as the food is excellent but it is advisable to book first as it seems very popular which I am not surprised.

“Interesting food - expensive - small portions.”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

For a special occasion this is a good restaurant to visit. The atmosphere is lively, the décor is tasteful in a shabby-chic 18th century French style and the service is attentive.
BUT given the prices, we expected the portions to be more substantial. As it was, we regretted not having ordered bread (brought automatically in most restaurants charging these prices) or starters. Our main courses were delicious (sea bream with saffron risotto & mushroom fritters, and scallops with cod "bon bons") as were the puddings, but we went home feeling slightly hungry - and we DON'T have enormous appetites!

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

Each time I came back, I cant avoid a dinner at Chequers. The choice of food cannot be wide, but everything (specially fish) is perfect. Very nice atmosphere and prices up to the quality.
