My husband booked this hotel to celebrate his 60th Birthday with the family. Check in was dealt with smoothly, despite a number of guests checking in at the same time. We had asked for all 4 rooms to be together, but it seems to depend on when you check in as to which rooms you are allocated, so 2 were together and the other 2 a little further apart, but not so much as to spoil the weekend.
We found all the staff throughout the hotel to be polite & helpful at all times. The bar area is very open plan, which doesn't give it much atmosphere, but still pleasant enough. We made good use of the leisure complex, which is excellent, lovely big fluffy towels provided, just remember to take a pound coin with you for the locker. Lovely pool & jacuzi, and never that busy.
We had an excellent meal at The White Horse Inn, a local pub which is within walking disctance of the hotel. Great food at reasonable prices, the chef was very interested in our comments & opinions, and even ran down the road after us, when my daughter dropped her purse under the table!! Service or what?
There was a Christmas 'Do' for students going on in one of the function rooms, but they were no problem at all (probably because most of them were under 18 & couldn't drink!!
Breakfast on the Saturday was a bit more shambolic, not nearly enough staff around for the number of tables, tea, coffee & toast are brought to the table, but be prepared for a long wait, also for your table to be cleared when you have finished. The staff were doing their best, but there just wasn't enough of them to do the job properely. Having said that the food was very good, plenty of choice, and all fairly hot.
We went into Stratford on the Saturday moring and had a wander round, then came back mid afternoon and made full use of the pool & jacuzi again, and just chilled out.
We booked a table in the restaurant for the Saturday evening, and had a wonderful meal, plenty of choice and well cooked & presented, staff much better than at breakfast. We aksed in advance if we could put balloons & decorations on the table, and they actually did it for us.
Finished the night off in the bar area, where there was another function going on, this one as bit more lively than the night before, but again no problems.
Breakfast on the Sunday was just as shambolic as the day before, with a long wait for more fried eggs to be brought out, heard several people complaining.
Slept well both nights, rooms are pleasant & comfortable, as are the beds, only slight problem was that the fan in the bathroom was very noisy and woke up hubby each time I went to the loo!!
I would definately recommend this hotel for a weekend break, and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Many thanks for your review of Ettington Chase, I was pleased to read that on whole your had an enjoyable stay with us. I note that we did not fully meet your request for all your rooms to be allocated next to each other, we do try and action all requests but on occasions we can not do this.
As mentioned in my previous responses regarding breakfast service over the last 2 weekends we have now reviewed our service delivery procedures with a view to making improvements moving forward.

We enjoyed a groupon deal at this well appointed venue , 2 nights bed and breakfast with one evening meal plus a bottle of wine on first night. The room was very comfortable and the food excellent. We enjoyed the buffet style breakfast which was a great start to the days. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and we will certainly return in the summer months. well worth a visit , and look out for their special offers.

I booked this hotel for my boyfriend and I to have a treat, loved the location, bed was so comfortable and the first night meal was superb. The spa facility was excellent except when the fire bell sounded and I called 0 on the emergency phone to find out if it was a test, no answer and no staff to inform us if it was a real incident. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast, for a 4 star hotel it was very poor, eggs left standing and looked past their best, pastries poor, bread not replaced when gone, tea served in a coffee pot, selection poor, tables left un cleared. The hotel is used for corporate events and made you feel like you were secondary to these events. having these corporate events spilling into the hotel makes you feel like you are at work not play ...keep them separate from the guests.

Many thanks for your review. Unfortunately due to the layout of the hotel it is not possible to segregate guests who are using our faciltiies for different purposes. I do hope that this issue did not unduly spoil your stay and I hope you choose to stay with us again in the future.

My other half booked this 2 day stay as a birthday treat through a travel agent for ourselves and our friends. The reviews had me a tad apprehensive as the main photo of a lovely old building was just the reception and a few executive rooms and others had mentioned the back was more of a run down building block.
How wrong, the rooms were lovely and we had been upgraded for free to a family room with an executive package (bathrobes, slippers, choccies and bottled water) after he had desperately tried to upgrade to an executive room after reading some negative comments on Tripadvisor.
I could not fault the location, grounds and marvelous pool. On arrival the bar manager allowed us to open a special bottle of champers he had bought with him at the bar (we put more than enough behind the bar over the stay) which was really appreciated. As part of the package we had a meal at the hotel the first night but again they were very accommodating and let us swap to the following night which was my actual birthday. After a meal and watching the England match at the local white horse inn just down the road we walked back and had a few nightcaps and a really good nights sleep as the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast the Saturday was fine( after an early morning swim) and we then went to Stratford by taxie costing £16.00. Unfortunately the 'mop'fair was on which basically consisted of the main streets of Stratford being cluttered up by waltsers, dodgems and the various fairground stalls however we made the best of the day, had a pub lunch on the river and arrived back at the hotel for a few pre dinner drinks. There was a wedding on in full swing at the hotel but we only had a small wait to be seated for dinner. The food was of a really good quality, plenty of choice and good size portions. The wait on staff were busy but not rushed and we retired to the bar which again was busy but the staff were very friendly and we had a great time. The only issue was breakfast the next day which was a total shambles. Obviously the wedding guests had taken their toll as there was not enough staff, food, clean cutlery, glassware milk or juice when we turned up around an hour before service ended. The manager (guy in a beige uniformed shirt) was the only person running around trying to sort a growing number of disgruntled waiting guests, other staff just wandered around as if on a go slow. The same young guy was asked 3 times for juice but just kept wandering off coming back and asking if we needed anything. Tables were left uncleared for the next guests. We took charge of our own tables, clearing them and sourcing cutlery and cornering the beige wearing guy to get drinks and top up the self serve food stations as we needed to leave by a certain time. Hats off to him as he tried his best. I've seen the same comments on other reviews of the hotel and management need to listen and get this sorted and employ more trained staff on the day after weddings as one guy said they got to bed at 3 after the wedding and then were back up at 6:30. Obviously they were too knackered to function properly which is a shame as everything else was spot on. The hotel looks as if it makes its bread and butter on corporate events during the week and weddings at the weekend with special offers for couples, family and friends through 3rd parties to fill what is quite a large hotel. Other than the breakfast madness though I would thoroughly recommend a stay here, just not after a wedding!

Room Tip: get a room furthest away from the bar if you want a quiet room

We stayed at Ettington Chase with friends for a birthday celebration. We got an incredible deal through a 3rd party website with evening meal, wine & breakfast for two people included in the £99 price tag.
The hotel was well appointed with leisure facilities and huge public areas with plenty of seating so the many groups of guests had their own space.
Staff were friendly & helpful.
The standard of food for both evening meal and breakfast was very good.
The hotel is also in a great location for visiting Warwick, Stratford on Avon and the north Cotswolds.

Beautiful location, good nights sleep, staff were attentive, not many toiletries in the room or tea and coffee making facilities. Food was average. Good for business purposes as they have good conference facilities but I wouldn't stay for pleasure.

We booked a two night Groupon stay that included Breakfast and a meal with a bottle of wine at a very good price. The staff were attentive and helpfull, the service was good in the restaurant, the pool is lovely and clean and at this time of year was almost empty. The rooms and general accommodation are very 'corporate', there's onbiously a lot of mid meet 'conferences' going on and I suspect weekeneds is orientated towards weddings and functions. But for us it was a super break at an excellent price. There are tiny things that they could improve, things like plastic drining cups instead of glass and not enough T bags in the room, but these are tiny things, that didn't detract from a lovely stay. We wil be looking out for a similar deal next year.
