“Impersonal Mass Market Hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

Obviously catering to weddings and conferences - it had the feel of a upmarket retirement home.

Had to wait 20 mins to check in when guaranteed 2pm check in. No personality at check-in (golden rule 1 broken). Room was basic but OK - because the hotel is divided into blocks the room simply looks out at the next block (hence the retirement home feel). Some of the staff were very helpful - some could not understand English. It cost us GBP72 for a night on Booking.com which was about right. As others say it has very nice grounds - so our car had the best views. Leisure club (pool and gym) was good - gym was nicely chilled. But with 4 sets of punch-in numbers to get places it felt as though you were in a retirement home with no hope of escape. The problem, as usual, with conference places is that many decide its a drinking week so 11pm - 12pm is a steady stream of loud talking patrons returning to their rooms. We won't be back

Room Tip: the closer to the bar/restaurant (in the centre of the complex) the more noise after 'closing&qu...

Ettington chase was the venue for our annual meeting of TVR's..Its actually the 7th year of being held at the chase and i must say that this year was exceptional, The staff are always pleasant, Curtious and accommodating.

We held our Saturday night meal in one of the hotels suites and the food was fantastic.

Thanks EC.

OMG, I went away with my daughter for some girly time as she often tell me I am always working.

Booked this hotel and then realised it was miles away from the city, my mistake obviously.

But it was the best mistake made, bit was a lovely hotel, great time with my daughter. I will be going again.

A gem tucked away.

My partner and I met up with friends to stay at ettington chase for the weekend, whilst we were visiting Stratford. They have children so stayed in a 'family room' we don't so upgrades to a suite (Eliot suite) on the top floor. The grounds to the hotel are really beautiful and the actual hotel itself is very attractive. We were very happy with our room, it had a huge bathroom, separate walk in wardrobe, and very large bedroom/sitting room, very restfully decorated, with a beautiful view from the window. However, we went to see our friends in the standard room, and it could only be described as a very standard holiday inn/premier inn style room, all beige, with no 'extras' or luxuries! Would only stay here if I could stay in a suite!
We stayed in the hotel to eat on the first night, and the food was exceptionally good, and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The breakfast was equally good, although I did ask for poached eggs, and they were not drained, properly, so served on a soggy piece of toast, once discarded the eggs were good! The pool area looked nice and clean and was used by the children, but they can only use the pool at certain times.

Room Tip: Eliot suite is beautiful

Good location in central England. I was there on business, and was happy with the service and set up. Everything was delivered smoothly. The conference rooms are good. Rooms are excellent. If you are using the hotel for pleasure, a car is essential as Stratford is still a decent drive away (although looks close on a map).

We had a weekend away with a groupon offer. The hotel was pleasant enough, a bit corporate, more premier inn than country house hotel, but we had a really good stay. Our deal included a 3 course meal and a bottle of sparkling wine. We could choose which night we would like the meal and they changed the wine to a nice bottle of red, which we appreciated. The meal was really great and the restaurant busy and with a good atmsophere. We used the pool and sauna and practically had the place to ourselves. It is ideally placed for visiting Stratford Upon Avon, which is about 15 minutes drive away. On our second night we ate in the pub in the village just a few minutes walk away which was delicious too. All in all we had a lovely stay and would recommend it.

Room Tip: We had a standard room which is pretty much what you get.

We have stayed at Ettington Chase Hotel a number of times over the last 7 or 8 years and found it an ideal hotel being so close to Stratford and surrounding area. We have noticed quite a few changes over that time - all to the good. For instance, on our first visit we found the breakfast set up to be a complete shambles but on future visits we have seen continual improvements and on this last visit they were a highlight of the stay! Having stayed in different rooms we had found out that some rooms at the back of the hotel overlooked the staff car park and therefore, through necessity, could be noisy very late at night and again very early as staff departed and arrived so we were a little disappointed to find we had been allocated such a room on this stay. However, we had a word with the Reception Staff who found us a lovely room at the front of the hotel and we had 3 brilliant nights sleep! We do find that the staff will do their best to help if they can (and if approached properly of course). We always say hotels should be given more than one chance and we are pleased that we gave this one more than one! We love the pool. I was surprised to read a comment saying the pool was too cold. We have always found it a perfect temperature. It feels cold if you go in straight from the jacuzzi or the sauna though! Wouldn't any pool? We stayed during the school half term week so expected that the pool would be open for children at some point which it was but didn't find it a problem. I felt children should have been allowed to use the pool more than they were actually. On the first evening we found two light bulbs were not working. We phoned Reception and within 10 minutes a very cheerful, helpful man had been to check them and gone to bring new ones which he fitted for us - sorted! We didn't have any evening meals as we like to be out and about but it seemed to be very popular. We would like to see better priced wines available as there was nothing under £20. We used to be able to enjoy a bottle for about £15. We managed to get a good deal by speaking directly to the hotel which says on its website 20% off to book direct and they are true to their word. This hotel is not one of the quaint stereotypical Cotswold Inn type places but is very pleasant with all the amenities you would need and with decent size rooms and en-suites. As with any hotel it is difficult to keep up with every bit of wear and tear but overall the standard is good. It provides basic toiletries which should be more than adequate for most visitors and teas and coffees (perhaps the tray could have a couple more milks and coffees - I know we can ask at Reception but it would be nice not to have to do this). We found our room to be very clean and bright with regular housekeeping. The weather wasn't good enough to wander round the grounds but we have done this in the past and found it very pleasant. There is a huge car park so even when conferences are on you can easily park the car. It is reassuring to have security codes to access the hotel and leisure facilities. To summarise we would say it is a lovely modern hotel with good amenities in a character building - if you are wanting quaint then perhaps this isn't the one but if you want a relaxing break near Stratford then this is the one. We will definitely be visiting again as soon as we are able.

Room Tip: We enjoyed our stay in room 318 this time and would request it again.
