I visited with my partner for our Anniversary. The hotel looked ok from the outside and checking in was easy and smooth.

However my partner had booked a VIP upgrade as a surprise for me - but this was not present in our room. We had to pay a visit to reception to ask for it - therefore ruining the surprise. They then took a further half hr to send all the stuff up.

Our first impressions were gradually going out the window when something as simple as an upgrade seems too difficult.

The hotel is mainly for 'Conferences' they didn't seem interested that we were there for a romantic weekend. This came to a head when we tried to book for dinner one night and were told 9pm was the only slot available - who wants to eat their dinner this late?? The excuse we were given is that they were catering for conferences. However they did manage to "squeeze us in" as the receptionist put it! When we did go for dinner the restuarant was practically empty!

Dinner on the first night was exceptional - very good and quick service. The 2nd and 3rd night was poor - we were left waiting with finished plates on our tables for ages in between courses and had to ask for our drinks twice!

Overall not a good experience - however it was bearable and things were sorted out in the end.

Not a hotel we will be visiting again though!

I stayed here recently for the weekend and although being very busy, the staff were very accommodating and helpful. Despite previous complaints about restaurant quality in past reviews, we found it to be very satisfactory. In the evenings we relaxed in the bar area where there was a good atmosphere and friendly service. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here however not particularly suitable for those looking for a romantic getaway

We booked this hotel for the weekend to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary.
What can I say?
Rowdy guests, such long queues at the singly staffed bar we debunked to the local pub, mediocre food, being disturbed during the night by noisy guests, overheated rooms, bar staff who just cannot seem to get your order right...oh dear :( I will not be visiting this hotel again!!!

We stayed at Ettington Chase for 2 nights midweek on a special DBB rate. The hotel was easy to find and there were plenty of car parking spaces. We found the reception staff very helpful and pleasant and were given a room on the 1st floor, which was very convenient for the leisure centre. The swimming pool was great - quiet, warm and had lighting which created a calm atmosphere. The jacuzzi was fairly small - 4 people max, but this was not a problem as the hotel was quiet. We also used the sauna and there was a gym. Children are only allowed in the pool, not in the rest of the gym, sauna etc. and only on Fri, Sat and Sun at certain times , so this keeps the leisure centre pleasantly child free a lot of the time.
The room had lovely modern decor and soft furnishings with a large comfortable bed. We had a tea/coffee making tray, hairdryer, iron/ironing board, flat screen TV, trouser press, safe and plenty of mirrors with sockets near them.
The bathroom had a very strong shower, plenty of hot water and a few toiletries.
Breakfast was from 7am until 9am and was great - help yourself to juice, yogurt, cereals, fruit, croissants and all the usual hot food. We got fresh pots of tea fairly quickly from pleasant staff.
Dinner was average - the starters were ok but we thought the choice of main courses rather limited and not very appealing so chose to pay a supplement of around £4 for more choice. Desserts were limited to a choice of 2 but there was a lovely cheese board too, which we preferred. Wines were from around £16 to £95 a bottle. The service was good and food served hot, however the restaurant was very quiet, We didn't have any other drinks in the hotel as we were in Stratford the 1st night watching "Twelfth Night", which was excellent, and we walked to Chequers pub after dinner the 2nd night for a couple of drinks in a pleasant country pub.
There was wi-fi in the hotel, but you had to pay extra . However, there was a computer which you could use free of charge near reception.
We had a lovely peaceful break here and would return midweek again but would probably not have dinner unless it was on the same cheap deal as it was too limited a choice for the full price.

I would agree with the other reviews - the restaurant service was appalling and took an hour to bring the starters - no one had their starters for ages. When ours arrived the soup portion was small, and too salty. My main fish dish was dried up. They also put us in a twin room when i'd booked a double - great for a romantic break!! The rest of the hotel was average, the staff were ok but all very young and inexperienced.

We stayed on a Saturday night and arrived after 3 pm, nice clean modern hotel, not the neo-gothic one as suggested on their website. Ordered sandwiches at the bar and after 40 mins all the wrong ones arrived and other people sat nearby, informed us that they had been waiting for over an hour. When they did arrive, they were very poor.
Evening meal was a joke, ordered haddock fillet on a bed of wild mushroom with pea puree and new potatoes. the dish looked nice but was luke warm, the potatoes were stone cold! sent it back and when it arrived the 2nd time, the chef had thrown the potatoes in the deep fryer!! dessert consisted of two types of mousse/cheecakes, all in all a disaster and we also noticed many more people complaining in the restaurant.
ordered sunday papers to laze in bed with, they arrived at 9.30, by this time we had showered and changed and gone down to breakfast, recpetion told me that some one had gone to the shop to get them. All in all the place had the feel of staying at the NEC with chocolate demonstrations, weddings and 100 people involved in a murder mystery weekend. O.k to stay and use the leisure facilties but forget the rest and bring your own reading material, as you won't get a paper.

I stayed here with my best friend for a 2 night stay b&b for £69 per room per night. You really can't argue with value like that. We did have a slight hiccup with the room as my friend booked a twin and when we got to the room we found we had a double. We have attributed this to booking through laterooms.com, as this seems to be a common problem.
The reception staff were very accommodating, although there were no spare twins that night they offered to move us to a twin for the second, or give us two singles both nights. We ended up staying in the double room as it wasn't a massive issue but got a late checkout instead.
Rooms themselves we found to be very clean, modern, spacious and well equipped (inc tea and coffee making facilities)
We used the leisure facilities which were also pleasant with a reasonable sized pool, sauna and jacuzzi. I would probably try and give using the facilities a miss during the hours where kids are welcome, as generally families all come together- so it was quite busy and most of the time there was no room in the jacuzzi.

HOWEVER, please if you stay here avoid wasting your money in the restaurant. It is very badly organised. On the Friday night when we ate there for convenience, despite being friendly, none of the staff had a clue what they were doing. We had to wait ages for them to take our order (they didn't even bother to pour our first glass of wine - minor thing admittedly) I had seabass which was a limp and disappointing affair for the £15 price tag. Also I had to wait until I'd all but finished my meal until the accompanying potatoes arrived!
The dessert table hadn't been replenished and there was only a choice between a choc mousse and a wobbly looking lemon cheesecake. We also tried to order a glass of dessert wine to finish off our meal. We waited for a good 10 mins whilst lots of confused waiting staff went backwards and forwards. Eventually we were told they hadn't stocked this wine for 3 years (!) it was the only dessert wine on the menu but apparently it is too expensive to reprint the menus!!!!
It was just an odd evening really. On our second night we had a lovely meal in the Edward Moon Brasserie. Where service was impeccable and the food (I went for seabass here) was as it should be - tasty.

Breakfast at the restaurant is utter chaos. The buffet in principle has a great spead but you really need to get up early before food runs out (they are snail like in replenishing). Both mornings there were no tables that had been cleared and it was just a bit of a shambles really. I could go on but I think you get the idea - the restaurant really lets down what other wise is a decent hotel.

It is very much a hotel set up for conferences/ business so I wouldn't receommend for a romantic break - however if you get a decent deal on b&b for a nice and non expensive trip to Stratford it does represent excellent value :-)
