If this B&B had been £30 per night rather than £50 then my review would have been different rather than indifferent.
There are plenty of alternative B&B's for £30 pn in the Bristol area and most of them offer a more comfortable stay, a more substantial breakfast and you don't have to take your shoes off as you enter the door.
The setting at the Southwood is pleasant but I got the impression that the host does not want visitors in their home....'shoes off as you enter the door' and no front door key so you have to be back in your room before the door is locked.

The décor is dated but bed was clean and comfortable, the cooked breakfast was tiny, and I was only offered 1 slice of toast...it's a shame as some minor changes would make this a great place to stay.

I would not choose to stay here again...instead I have opted to stay in nearby alternatives which are cheaper.

Room Tip: no tips to offer, best advice is find a better b&b

We stayed 2 nights in September 2013 going to friends wedding at Brittons Farm Estate near Bath. This was a lovely and well priced B and B which would be perfect for anybody visiting Bath and/or the region near to Bath. Gorgeous rural village location but very close, along a country road, to Bath or Bristol. Friendly and warm British host, delicious breakfast with other guests in main home, and everything just lovely easy and enjoyable. Highly recommended for any visit to Bath or Bristol. Friendly host was very helpful regarding proximity of places and local knowledge, at time of booking over the phone and during our stay. Thank you!

Found this B&B on the Internet- most other accommodation was fully booked, as it was University of Bath open weekend. Pleasantly surprised; nice secluded location, facilities clean & tidy with en-suite shower room, & well stocked tea & coffee making facilities. Hostess even provided fresh milk upon our arrival. Could perhaps have done with a couple more pillows, just a minor criticism...
Woke up to a lovely view, plenty of wildlife & birdsong. Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked & plenty of, really hearty, which set us up nicely for the day. Managed to catch a few minutes with Carol the owner before our departure, & got to meet Daisy, her beautiful Golden Retriever...
All in all a pleasant stay, would recommend & would probably stay again if in the area.

Homely and friendly little B&B close to Tracy Park golf club. Clean and quiet room with a giant bed; only reason this is not a 5 star review is that there was nio real veggie alternative for breakfast. Stil recommended though!

Just got back from my second stay at Southwood House. Had business in Bristol needed reasonable self-catering accommodation. This one-bedroomed cottage was ideal. Off-street parking and everything you might need. Very clean and warm. The main house also offers B&B where a colleague stayed and that was very convenient. I joined him for breakfast one morning and it was superb. This is also a great location if you are visiting Bath - made it there in less than 15 minutes - in rush hour. There are loads of great country pubs within 5 minutes and a golf course within a 5 minute walk (boasting 2 18-hole courses restaurants and bar). Carol, the owner of Southwood House, can't do enough to make you feel at home. Kudos to you. See you next year.

Room Tip: Book the cottage if it's available - it's worth it for the extra space. You can still go ove...

This pleasant "bed and breakfast" is the perfect resting place for those attending the races at Lansdown on the outskirts of the beautiful city of Bath.
It's location is so peaceful, accomodation second to none and hospitality first rate.
Our room was spacious with the most comfortable bed ever, en-suite, wi fi, tv and tea making facilities. The view from our bedroom an absolute delight.
Complete with Daisy the friendliest golden retriever in the world and Carole the sweetest lady owner you are ever likely to meet. I do not think you will find any better value for money. So much so we were more than happy to pay above the going rate. Perfect!!

Beautiful old house with lots of character. Only has two guest bedrooms so it’s a proper intimate quintessential B&B in the owner's own home. The owner made us a delicious breakfast each morning (although last sitting is 9am which some may find too early) and the bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean.

Certainly not for those that prefer an anonymous hotel stay, but if you’re looking for a great value, old-fashioned B&B in a beautiful village, then it’s a great find.
