I stayed at the Weingut Weis with my mother and aunt for one night as we toured the beautiful city of Trier. My aunt had been in charge of booking this leg of our trip, and she booked us here. Upon arrival, we were awed by the rolling vineyards. Absolutely stunning! We also noticed that the entire building smelled like meat, but I suppose that is to be expected when staying in a rural German inn. The front desk manager was lovely and helpful, although I'm quite sure he was the only person in the hotel who spoke any English. We ate at the hotel's restaurant for dinner, and we were assured that our waiter spoke English... it soon became apparent that his English, bless his heart, was about as good as our German (which is nearly non-existant). Despite the awkward language barrier, we had an excellent dinner of traditional German food. My aunt and I had the weiner schnitzel, and my mother had the pork cheeks. Everything was absolutely delicious. The breakfast, included in the price I believe, was also very good. An excellent spread!
Our room was a triple room, and it was absolutely massive. A very clean bathroom as well. However, the wireless internet did not quite reach our room, as it was in the far front corner of the building. I must have made for an interesting sight for the other guests... the young Canadian woman sitting with her laptop in the hallway in her pyjamas at 10pm!
Overall it was a lovely, if not slightly surreal, experience. A comfortable room and a delicious dinner. What more could we have asked for?
