Stayed on a Travelzoo deal which all things considered was great value. The castle itself is in need of some serious investment although there are signs of this but the location offers peace and quiet but as with the building it could be so much more.
Our room was dated and basic but clean and was a fair reflection of the price paid. The three course dinner was of a good standard and enjoyable. Shame about the wine list where only five of about thirty were in stock. Luckily the only red they had was well priced and very drinkable.
Breakfast could have been acceptable but one member of staff hadn't turned in so it was a rearguard action and guests were continually asking for cereal, plates etc. The staff did the best they could but were run off their feet.

Overall not bad value for money but it could be so much better.

saw the offer on travel zoo £128 2 nights, breakfast and evening meal.

Called up to get the offer due to our party has 2 small children

On arrival, they had a slight confusion as I booked directly through them rather than through travel zoo.
When I booked I told them I had 2 children, and would require a cot,
The room was small, with the cot inside there was no place to walk, it was late, and the kids were tired from a long journey.

Initially they mentioned the evening meal was at 930, they then changed it to 630 as we have small children. Which was nice?

The food was average, the dining room was very dark, I understand that the atmosphere was nice for some, but the dark room scared one of my children and made them uneasy.

The service was good, even when they made a mistake the error was rectified swiftly,

Beds were comfy, and would like to stay there again (make sure we have a bigger room next time) and when the weather is better so we can view the surroundings, it is in the middle of nowhere, but was a relaxing break

The breakfast on both days was nice.

There were workmen fixing the building, but they didn’t cause any issues.

My wife and myself booked 2 nights at the above, l night included an evening meal and two breakfasts. We arrived 6pm, very nice receptionist, went to our room, nice and tidy, we did pay extra to stay in the old part of the castle as we wanted to enjoy the atmosphere . We were told on arrival that the 1st sitting was fully booked and we could not eat until 8-30pm....no problem, went to the bar, is was not quite what we are used too, but quiet and pleasant just the same. Ordered 1 diet coke, 1 half of Grolsch and a double gin with 1 tonic.........£14-20. On a second visit to the bar, l questioned the first round and was told by the same bar person a mistake had been made, but as it was just £1-00, l let it go.
Went in for dinner, waited 30 mins for the crab cakes starter x2 then a further 30 minutes for the main. The 2 couples next to us were complaining of 1 meal missing and was so late, the lady just had soup and a dessert. Her husband was asking where the camera was, he said it was the worst place he had ever ate at. When our mains turned up, l can see why. I had roast pork which comprised of: 2 generous slices of pork, 2 nealy roasted potatoes, no veggies and no yorkshire puds. I assumed this was how they served roast dinners (naive perhaps) My wife had ordered chicken supreme, this came as two chunks of thick chicken and gravy on top, she could not eat the chicken served like that, l was so hungry as we had driven for 4 hours and not eaten since breakfast l eat it. It was shocking how poor the two meals were. The second night we took a 5 minute ride into Studley and eat at The Barley Mow. We had two well cooked meals and a round of drinks for less than our drinks at the castle. I have to say the breakfast was a little better, but not much. The Studley Castle is overpriced and we will not be going back.

Room Tip: If you want to pay the extra cost, the old part is nice, but l would not pay it again, Would sooner...

I have just spent 2 nights at Studley Castle where I hosted a birthday party for around 40 relatives and friends the majority of whom stayed the night.

From the initial planning through to retiring to bed at around 3am after the event it was all a great success. The dining tables were attractively laid out, a private bar was installed and access to decorate and setup was unrestricted. At the bar and at dinner the waiting staff were friendly, attentive and very professional and the meal excellent. It was rounded off the next morning by a good and substantial breakfast and accommodated in the same room so we could all be together.

All the guests commented on the fabulous venue and what a great time they had. My thanks to all the friendly and helpful staff who made my party memorable.

Room Tip: Try to get an upgraded room.

We stayed at Studley for our anniversary as we got married here last year. Since De verse have taken over you can see a few positive changes already:-

Receptionist on the ball
Reception area has new open feel with marble tops.
Sauna now available.
Bikes for use in the grounds & pitch and putt.

Positives:-
The staff were all very helpful
Feeling inside the castle was cosy with open fires throughout and beautiful features in all the public areas.
Food for evening meal was lovely and breakfast very nice indeed, good quality ingredients, nicely hot.
Staff at breakfast and evening meal very friendly, helpful and efficient.
Our room was clean and had lovely views.

Negatives :-
Building is tired and needs to TLC to reach it's full potential.
Standard room very small, little things like side lamps in bedroom not working and mirror light in bathroom not working.
Furniture in the castle in definite need of upgrading.
Pot holed drive up to the castle is terrible and really not the best first impression.

All in all we fell in love with Studley castle and got married here last Oct as it has such a romantic feeling to the place and in fact it turned out to be the best place we could ever have chosen for out fairytale wedding dispite it's little flaws. On the Day the food was fantastic, staff wonderful and all our guests had a fabulous time and commented on how great the venue, staff, food etc was.
But we can see just what potential it has and really hope that De vere make the castle everything it can be by upgrading the interior, repairing the driveway and making it perfect!

I would definately recommend the Castle to anyone.

We will go back as we love Studley Castle and fingers crossed each time it will get better and better!!

Fantastic building and surroundings. Stunning public rooms. Excellent value with travelzoo.
Staff very friendly, but somewhat disorganised, perhaps due to lack of training. Food, small portions, nicely cooked but not always as menu, breakfast buffet not particularly hot. Rooms
clean, but tired, dated and lacking character.De Vere need to spend some serious money to bring out all the potential of this fantastic building.Overall would recommend at this price, and enjoyed our stay.

The hotel has fairly recently been bought privately and I believe the owner has taken a De Vere name franchise. Best Western seemingly had let it go a little but I am a fussy old sod and for what I paid, I didn't see anything untoward. The food was excellent and at 3 courses was sufficient for me until breakfast, which was buffet style, so dig in!

The room was clean, bathroom more so, bed comfortable but not luxurious, heating overpowering if you wanted it on. The decor and public rooms were perfectly clean and inviting but don't sit too near the windows as the cold strikes though!!!

The staff, well they were out of this world in friendliness and with help. Plenty of parking space and peace and quiet.

Downside, although I gave full marks, no biscuits on bedroom hospitality tray - you only get a complimentary bread roll if you have soup! And the approach road is shockingly potholed!?

Room Tip: Difficult to work out which room numbers are on which side but ASK for room with a field/forest view...
