**I can only speak for how this beach is during the low season from June-September**
**This is a public beach, but most of it is directly in front of a private beach resort.
This is not one of those "wow, how amazing, I've got to tell my friends!" beaches, but I would definitely recommend stopping by Kata Noi Beach if you're ever on Phuket and have some time. This is a good beach to visit if you're looking to do some swimming in the ocean - just be cautious as the currents are sometimes quite strong.
Kata Noi Beach is the smaller, lesser visited neighbour to the popular Kata Beach, on the south-western end of the island. I would personally argue that it's even better than Kata Beach, as it's smaller and less crowded; but there are still always enough people that you don't feel lonely. At times, there are big waves and strong currents, but this is normal and nothing to fear: no matter what, you should always be careful and on your guard when swimming in the ocean.
I don't personally find it much fun when a beach is still as a dam and has no waves, so this was perfect. Our hotel was less than a five minute walk away from the beach, so during our stay in Kata we came here regularly, as a family, and had a really good time.
This beach had several lifeguards on duty at all times, but I'd say all children (good swimmers of not) under the age of 12, should be under adult supervision at all times.
The water temperature was absolutely perfect during the entire two weeks we spent on Phuket this year, and the waves were big enough to be exciting, but small enough that inexperienced swimmers or surfers could still enjoy 100% safely.
The entire beach is sandy (no unpleasant pebbles), and there is a coastal shelf where most adults would be able to stand up to their chest for around the first 10 meters out into the sea, however the rise up to shore is quite steep, causing waves to break very quickly.
This beach is very good for riding waves with your body, and for swimming, but (being an avid surfer myself) I would not recommend it for surfing.
Kata Noi Beach is nice and calm and relaxing, but not at all isolated or lonely. I never experienced any unpleasant winds, and the beach is still fine when it's raining.
The beach is not particularly big, but I really value that it was not over-crowded or too noisy.
During high tide there is practically no sand exposed on the beach, but during low tide there are about 20 meters of sand from the edge of the beach to the breaking waves.
