The Centara Grand is a fabulous Hotel. It did help that on arrival we were given a free upgrade from a deluxe room to a pool suite.... what a bonus!! That said i think all the rooms would be excellent.
We were a couple but I think it is a brilliant hotel for families with lots of water based activities.
I would urge anyone staying to take them up on the Centara Baht Bonanza Plan. It has to be taken within 24hours of arrival and gives you up to 100% more spending for free, on food, beverages and spa treatments. Certainly helps with our hard hit pound!
The breakfast was fantastic, we ate in the hotel several evenings, it was ok but not as good as in Karon.
The staff are excellent and cant do enough for you. I had back ache on the third morning as the beds are quite firm, i asked the maid for an extra topper and it was on the bed next time we returned to the room.
Would I recommend this hotel to anyone..... ABSOLUTELY!!

I was statying in Centara Grand Beach Resort from May 20th-May23 in an deluxe ocean facing room. This hotel is very new but there are flaws and management needs to be more professional.

The goods:
- Room is spacious with spectacular harbor view
- Staff are generally friendly
- Swimming pool and public area are clean
- Location is just about right as we found hotels in Putong is always crowded and noisy. - - - Beach is quiet and clean.
- Taking Tuk Tuk to Putong would be around 250-300 Baht

The bads:
Some rooms are still under construction and i heard drilling noise from my room.
When i ordered a slipper, it took housekeeping 20 minutes to deliver them to my room. I expressed both concerns to the manager on duty. The residence manager who was very attentive and offered an upgrade to a Spa deluxe ocean facing room.
I appreciated the upgrade, but the hardware in this room is ridiculous. (Photos posted) The door handle is loose, the sliding door is stuck, and insects are in the room.
This is the most frustrating part, I expressed them to executive manager on duty Chris, he wasn't very professional in my opinion. He went up to my room, and he just said he will take care of it.
Later that evening when I came back, the handles weren't fixed, and insects even came into my luggage.
I was too tired that night and also it was our last night. The next morning I BUMPED into Chris and he asked me was everything fixed. At that time I knew he wasn't taking my concern seriously. This isn't what i expected for a 5 star hotel management. During our conversation, I mentioned about the on going construction in the hotel and he was directing my comment to neighbor hotels which close for months for renovation. Well, i mean your hotel is only 5 months old and the fact is some of the room are still under construction. I mean if you are professional and attentive, a follow up with a voice message or a phone call would be much appreciated. I wonder if my comment was marked in the log. This hotel has the potential to become a 5 star hotel but it needs more work.

We stayed at Centara Grand Resort Karon for 6 nights in May. We had a one bedroom villa booked and it exceeded all expectations. It was very large with a fantastic view of the beach. All the hotel facilities were first class including the Cove Restaurant, gym and swimming pools. The hotel location is superb, right on Karon beach. Staff were extremely friendly and always willing to help. Karon and Patong were only a short taxi ride away which can be organised through the hotel. There were only some minor issues with the hot water and a mix up with our bill at the end of our stay but this was all handled very well. The resort offers everything you need without having to leave. Can't wait to stay here again. Just perfect!

We found the hotel had good clean rooms, some great facilities for kids and great location BUT we had some unfortunate experiences that showed the staff are far from 5 star including a theft from the room safe.
The kids loved the pool, water slides, lazy river and jump offs and fortunately the ridiculous min 1.5m height requirement was ignored by the staff. This hotel is beach front and the beach at Karon is fantastic. There are a few restaurants on the beach with good food at sensible prices. Location can be a bit inconvenient as it is a taxi or walk for 20 min into town for basic supplies.
BUT... . When we arrived at 4pm we were told our room was not ready (even though the hotel seemed less than half full). We were offered an "upgrade" at an extra USD120 per night. We were told the room was bigger and more suitable, had its own pool and access to a lounge with 5 "meals" a day (these meals were just snacks as they excl lunch and dinner and we already had breakfast included). What got us suspicious was when they said our booked room was unsuitable and we could inspect the upgrade room but not the booked (standard) room as it was not ready. Eventually they showed us both and the rooms were identical except the standard room had a magnificant view of the beach and the upgrade room had a view of a roof. The upgrade room did have a small pool at the front but with a big drop off unsuitable for kids. I cant help thinking this was a set up designed to get more money from us.
The next more serious issue is on the second day we had an iphone stolen from the room. We were sure it was left in the safe. We advised the hotel and they gave us a log of the door and safe entry and we even let them search our room to make sure it hadn't been misplaced. The logs showed the room had been entered 5 times when we were out that afternoon and when we worked out the safe log times were wrong and adjusted them, they showed the safe had been accessed when we were out and just after the room had been accessed by hotel staff. At this point the hotel staff became unhelpful and would not engage with us. They didn't want us to file a police report and when we said we had to (to claim insurance) they said we would have to make our own way to the police station (on the other side of Phuket so we had to hire a car). They would not even let us use their phone (to suspend our phone and email account and credit cards etc) without charging usual very high rates. They say they have investigated the incident but have refused to acknowledge any liability or that hotel staff could be responsible. Their unhelpful response to the incident made it so much worse for us and must raise issues about ongoing security if they have not found the culprit(s).

We have sent you a reply of your complain by email on May 04.
Here is the highlight of its content.

The safety boxes of our resort as any 5 star hotels are provided in all guest rooms and can only be accessible by either setting specific number (password) or using credit card code. The access log has proven that it was locked and unlocked by the guest only.

According to the safety and security standard of policy, the hotel cannot not be held responsible for any items that are left outside the safety box; this policy is also mentioned on the registration card and signed by the guest at check in process. it applies to all registered guests.

For the six month of operation of the resort, this type of incident is the only one which has been reported by our guests.

We have expressed our regret.

We have also agreed that we did not offer sufficient assistance in the process of police report, have apologized for it, have assured that additional training took place since the incident and offered compensation.

Best regards,

Denis

Love love love this resort! Can not recommend it highly enough. We stayed for 10 nights in March with our 3 small children (4, 3 and 1). We were impressed with the following:

• Great, friendly and relaxed staff who doted on our children,
• BEAUTIFUL swimming pools (the lazy river was a firm family fav!),
* Good gym facilities (with free water)
• Beautiful grounds and setting,
• Secluded location, far enough away from Karon town to feel secluded, but close enough to walk,
• Beach front access ie no crossing of any roads,
• Direct access to superb restaurants on Karon Beach - we ate on the beach rather than the restaurants at the resort as they were far superior in terms of both the quality and price (once you get past the dodgy look of them, it's hard to go elsewhere!)
* Great Kids Club that gave us an hr here or there to go into the markets,
• Beautiful rooms (we had room 423 and it overlooked the resort and ocean (we even got fantastic fireworks treats on a number of nights!)),
• Excellent room service (although the food is pricey) and a lovely turn down service where they leave fresh fruit and flowers,
• and an awesome continental breakfast that is seen to be believed!

The rooms do not have free wifi though which was interesting - not a big deal but I would have thought a 5 star resort would have provided this service.

The only other let down for us was the cost of the tuk tuks into Karon and Phuket. Approx $6 each way into Karon which is outrageously expensive when you realise how far it is, but you can easily walk this along the beach (unfortunately small children are harder to convince to walk!) But a ride in a tuk tuk is GREAT fun for the kids! Having said that, the tuk tuks are out of the control of the resort....

All in all, a WONDERFUL trip to Thailand! And a beautiful resort that will be hard to top!

Room Tip: All rms are ocean facing as far as I can tell.

We loved it all.

We thought the Centara Grand Beach Hotel was fantastic. The staff, the hotel, the food, the pools the actual setting where it is, the location , all was perfect and I can only recommend to stay there.

We have 2 girls, age 7 and 8 and they loved it. The kids club was okay. They have a weekly planner so you can decide in the morning which sessions you would like the kids to go to. So all was fine.

We thought the food in the Hotel was a wee bit expensive, but there are plenty of opportunities to eat by the beach. For the family we paid appr. £8.00 = 400 Bhat for lunch and that included everything. The Food in all of the beach restaurants was fantastic and it is good to try them all.

If you want to save money, take the taxi from outside the hotel. Patong is worth a visit. Otop market if you like shopping is fabulous!

If you want to enjoy Thailand you have to take your time and relax if things are not moving or provided as fast as in Europe!

We loved it all.

P.s. one little comment would be that if you go in high season, it could be rather crowded around the pool as I don’t think the pool area is big enough. However there is always the Beach!

Room Tip: we stayed in the 800 room area, great

My Wife, my baby daughter and I disappointed by lack of management and service by Centara.

Lets start with 4 Negatives in Details

1) Arrived 3:21pm on purpose because Centara Grand Phuket ask for 3pm check in and we have have had bad experience with Centara Pattaya! We got our room at 4:45pm. First, a 30min wait at very badly designed hot lobby far from rooms and very little parking with extremely dangerous entry to premises. Then off to room 22X building 2 which is occoupied by nice guest using her bathroom. Wait another 15min sitting in the hot hallway. Brought back to Lobby to be moved to Building 6-7 Acqua. Stopped at the lobby elevator to be sent walking back to Building 3 room 332. You get the picture. My wife is fuming by now! And btw they close lazy river pool at 5:30pm - just great!

2) We realize at 7:30pm that ceiling fan is failling off and held onto by 1 of 2 bolts. It's spinning wildly and dangerously. we are worried about our baby girl walking underneath or worst spleeping under that fan. Maintenance comes and takes out fan with all the gypsum dust flying down into my room service hamburger - great timing.

3) Leaking P-Trap in the sink which causes the marble floor to be constantly wet... / nway just put a trash can under sink with some towels...

4) Promise free late check out by reception after logged in complaint of 5pm check in... guess what they forgot to mentioned, they automatically lock you out of room at Noon coming back in your swimming trunks all wet and they have the audacity to ask us to walk back to building 1 Lobby!

Positive
Centara and the Ch. Family have lots of cash and land around Thailand.. so it's a nice property especially for young children. Cool Sliders for the young ones. Pretty looking hotel at night. and views are good.

Conclusion: Glad to be leaving after 1 night in that room and poorly trainied staff hotel.
We are loyal customers having stayed at Centara 4xtimes in past year but we will not be returning to this one for a long long time. We are Moving on to a real 5 star international hotel run by Starwood for 3 nights.

Room Tip: Hotel is vast so look at hotel map before
