Best Western Phuket Ocean Resort

With all the reviews I read, I was expecting pretty bad hotel, but i was pleasantly surprised it wasn't as bad as i thought. Yes there is alot of steps to the lifts (good exercise) as we were on the 5th level - great views. Hotel is average - but for the price. Karon Beach is much better for families i personally feel, Patong is too much, and the beaches seem to be cleaner. Still lots of shopping to do in Karon and you can get just about everything as you would in Patong. Room was pretty clean, the only problem we had just a wooden partition between our room and the kids room and we had to listen to two tv's going at the same time as they had a tv as well. Staff especially at the pool bar are very nice and the young girls at the breakfast are very friendly. One thing the gym wasn't opened til 11am - which i did not like as i wouldn't exercise at that time of the day. Location was about 10 minute tuk tuk or cab to Patong. About 300 baht in a nice taxi - all just about new cars - which i recommend rather than the tuk tuk. I would stay there again. Has three pools, which we stayed at the pool bar alot. Drinks (beer) are reasonably price drinks cheaper at bars or on the streets.

We stayed here for a week and returned after a short trip to Koh Phi Phi. This is a nice place to stay with a pleasant lobby and a comfortable room.

The location is in "quiet Karon" and probably a bit too quiet for us; however the beach was nice enough for Thailand (I'm used to Australian beaches having been brought up there, so perhaps a bit spoiled). However we hired a scooter and were only a 10 minute journey to the other lively beach area.

The property is located on many levels nestled into the hill. For me, as we were on the very top floor, this was fantastic. We had commanding views across the beach. I would definately not recommend this place for anyone who has difficulty walking. There are many stairs and steep inclines to walk, and unless you are staying at the very bottom of the property (of which you still have a short incline and quite a few steps still with which to navigate) this is not a property for the disabled or older generation.

There are three pools in this property, all of which are well maintained and a great place to relax. The top pool has great views.

The staff were friendly, especially the housekeeping staff. We gave them a nice tip and it certainly looked like the young lady appreciated it.

I would stay here again if I was ever in Karon; however I probably wouldn't happen to stay in Karon again. A great experience though.

This is a mid priced hotel, with problems. Some of these are due to where the hotel is built, some are due to it being mid priced and can not be run very well. The stuff is VERY nice, but the following problems were still observed:

1. Hotel fans out over a hill. It does have a elevator. But there are 50+ steps to and from the elevator to the room. The elevator is a vertical shaft down the middle of the hill. One needs to get to it, and more steps from it to the room.

2. Bathroom has exposed pipes on the wall, some peeling paint, some leaking faucets. Shower pressure was ridiculously low, well below average. (Remember, cheap hotel in developing country . . . low water pressure).

3. One is supposed to get 2 bottles of water a day. Well, they ran out of water when they made my room, so they didn't leave any. Had to call desk in the evening, and wait for the water to be brought to the room (bottled water is a feature one pays for, not a discretionary courtesy).

4. Facial tissues box had 2 tissues left. Maid did not realize that, and did not refill box. Came in the evening, used the 2 tissues, ran out of tissues. Had to call desk, wait for them to bring a new box, then went out to dinner.

There must be a better deal around than this hotel.

Okay, the hotel is set into a hill side, and steep climbs to and from the street and another 5 mins to the beach was a not great, but nor was it a major problem. I did see some accomodation was set further up the hill and I'd be annoyed repeating this walk in the blistering heat...

The hotel has a great pool and the staff are excellent. Breakfast was good too. Our room was average and had some paint peeling and damp, but nothing major.

My biggest problem with this hotel was the price. It cost x3 more than other places in the area. A much better hotel in Patong (next beach along with better shopping) is the Sala Thai hotel - would be 4 star in the uk and was 1/3 the price of the Best Western!

I liked this hotel, it was in a good spot. Quiet, but close walking distance to restaurants and shopping. We were on the fifth floor. Lots of stairs and passageways, but there is an elevator.

From our balcony, we had a view of the beach.

Ate at restaurants outside of the hotel, much cheaper that way.

When we arrived, had some ants in the room. We were given some Raid and once we sprayed they never came back.

Upon checking in, we were given welcome juice.

The pool on the upper level smelled very strongly of chlorine, which damaged my hair considerably after swimming in it. (We stayed in Kamala prior to this hotel and swam in the pool there, and my hair was fine.) The pool on the lower level is much nicer, we discovered, and doesn't smell of chlorine.

At one point we asked about renting a scooter/bike from the hotel and were quoted a price for three days. When we went back the next day and talked to another lady, she gave us a higher price. We didn't end up renting.

However, overall a very good experience. I would stay again. I liked Karon, and we walked into Kata a couple times instead of taking a taxi. It's only a half hour to forty minutes from the hotel on foot, depending how often one stops to shop or buy drinks!

This is a satisfactory hotel in a good location in Karon beach, within walking distance of a nice beach and of the restaurants and markets, but quiet enough if you want to escape the bustle of a busy resort.

The hotel staff are friendly but this is a 3-star experience. The hotel organises trips to nearby towns and markets that are worth taking. Definitely, a place to relax in busy Phuket and I would recommend it.

Karon has a beautiful stretch of beach and is not as bad as busy and tacky Patong, so definitely a place to stay to explore the island. Beware of mosquitoes everywhere, though!

As a gay man, I also did not have any problems whatsoever in staying here with my same-sex partner and being given a double bed, something that still sometimes raises a few eyebrows in some hotels or guest houses. Staff were very efficient and friendly and made us feel welcome all the time.
