“A great 5* stay at a charming 4* resort”
Reviewed 3 April 2011

We had a 9 night stay at the Centara Villas and absolutely loved it. We stayed in a pool villa, no 403 which was the furthest away, right by the buggy turning area and it gave us complete privacy, we never closed our bedroom blinds because we looked out on only the jungle vegetation with loads of birds and butterflies - gorgeous. The view out over the bay whilst dipping in and out of the pool was stunning. A couple of minor gripes about the room: not enough storage space for clothes and a few more power sockets would have been good, but the room itself was lovely, it looked as though it had recently been refurbished. Also, the pool area was a little stark, a couple of plants would make the world of difference - however again it was very well maintained - and did I mention the view??

We did attempt the steps up to breakfast once and again when going for our cocktails and canapes in the evening (the choice is either in your room or you can have at the bar if you prefer) - but arriving gasping for breath and dripping put us off and we used the buggy service for the rest of our stay! Walking down the steps was no issue though. The young man who collected us for breakfast in the buggy each morning was a delight, so happy and friendly - I didn't get his name unfortunately but two thumbs up to him. Breakfast was fine - nothing exceptional but plenty of choices.

We didn't use the main pools at all but on passing when on our way to lunch at Bay View restaurant there were always sunbeds available and it seemed peaceful with plenty of waiters for drinks etc.

The food at Bay View was very nice with a selection of thai dishes, paninis, burgers, salads etc - we ate there most days and the staff were lovely.

We did two trips with Simba while there, to Phi Phi and Phang Nga and loved both - Jenny was with us on both trips and she is a great host and guide. Expensive but highly recommended!

We went into Karon every evening apart from one night when we treated ourselves to dinner at Mom Tri's Kitchen in Kata Noi (mega expensive but very nice). We found plenty of little family owned restaurants where the food was very good and so, so cheap. One place I would recommend is called Yings, it's about 5 mins walk along the main street up from the circle on the left hand side. Most main dishes were 85 baht and rice about 30 baht and the food was great - can't go wrong with that! We also ate at the Red Onion which lots of people recommend, we ate there a bit later, about 10pm and got a table immediately - but earlier in the evening they were queueing to get in. We also found a lovely italian (think it was called Del Maria) - if you turn left off the main street, past all the stalls and restaurants its sat right at the end and they do great pizzas and very reasonable carafes of wine.

We paid 200 baht each way - no variation at all and always stated up front. In Karon there appeared to be a tuk tuk "guvnor" we used to see him when we wanted to go back and he would shout at one of the drivers to take us, I think he operated a rotation system

After we left the Villas we stayed in a high end 5 star villa for a few days, and whilst lovely I actually preferred the Centara - the staff were great and you simply cannot beat the location and views!

After a lot of searching we finally decided on this property as we wanted a place to relax and offered privacy. It is equidistant from the 2 popular beaches - Karon and Patong.

We reached the hotel late in the afternoon after a long flight, and the way the staff greeted us certainly brought a smile on our face. We were offered a chilled coconut drink and wet towels and were given a thorough explanation of the services offered by the hotel.

After about 10-15 minutes, the buggy dropped us to our room. We had chosen a Spa Villa, which comes with a private deck and Jacuzzi. The room was nicely decorated with flower petals. The view from the room was also amazing, we could see Karon beach on one side and Andaman Sea on the other side. The thick vegetation in the hotel meant that the villas are all hidden from each other.

The bathroom was also nice, with sunlight filtering through the glass ceiling. Amenities provided were also decent.

The service of the hotel was what we liked the most. Ever Smiling and ready to help with most queries. We had dinner at the hotel a couple of times and the food was fine. The breakfast spread was also very good with both veg and non-veg items on offer.

There were a couple of glitches - the phone lines went dead for a day so we could not call for the buggy to pick us from our rooms (but have to mention again, they were prompt enough to set up a back up plan of stationing some staff at regular distance to help us); another thing was that we did have a lizard for company in our room for the entire duration of our stay.

Also, as i have mentioned above, the hotel is between Patong and Karon Beaches. So to visit any of these beaches, you have to take a car transfers. The hotel does have 2 daily transfers, but if you miss it, it would cost about 300 Thai Baht per way.

Apart from the above minor issues, the stay was certainly very comfortable, it is a super option for honeymooners!!!

So my wife and I chose Phuket as our Honeymoon destination. Having never travelled there before we were concious not to end up in the middle of all the action at Patong Beach, and after a fair bit of searching we settled on this great resort. Nestled half way between karon and Patong beach the resort offers superb southerly views over Karon Beach. We were in room 409 - a pool villa at the very bottom of the resort (this will make sense once you've been to the resort), meaning we had excellent access to the pool and the little short cut to the beach but we had quite a hike to the main restaurant and lobby.

As a lot of reviewers say here, there is a lot of hill climbing to be done, but to be honest it kind of makes you feel good and as though you deserve the indulgences at the bar or restaurant. We used the mini car quite a fair bit but the staff were only ever more than happy to come pick us up... in all, dont let the hills worry you or deter you from staying here as it is because of the hills you get such a magnificent view over karon Beach!

As with most resorts, the restaurant in the resort was more expensive, and perhaps not quite as authentic as the 'plastic tablecloth and chair' restaurants you find in the beach towns. But, in saying this, they were still magnificent and definately worth trying.

Being located between Karon and Paton, you have to tuk tuk or get a lift to pretty much anywhere. The onsite limo driver (Om) has a brand new and very nice 4WD and for the tiniest bit more than a tuk tuk he will take you anywhere you want.

The pool villa was excellent. Iwas so so nice to come home after dinner at night and enjoy a quick dip and the view from the pool. The little bit extra is well worth it!

My wife really enjoyed a session at the spa, claimed it was one of the best she had ever been to.

Finally, the staff... they were amazing! Always gracious and couldn't help enough. One sentence doesnt seem to give justice to them, but words can't explain how helpful and attentive they were.

While there were a couople of tiny things that weren't perfect, it was these tiny things that give the place character. The little touches like the fresh flowers and charactatures made from the fresh towels when we got home every day...

In essence, the resort was excellent and anyone looking to enjoy the best of Phuket should consider staying here.

Not really one for reviews but felt I had to write a quick few words about our stay at the Centara Villas. Basically was everything we had hoped for and more, a really amazing holiday. Peaceful, pretty, lovely views and great staff. Cannot fault it one bit.

Most things have already been covered on here already, so I will just make a few little points for anyone thinking of going here. First, make sure you have good mozzie protection as the accomodation is set in the jungle and I got bitten to pieces. Second, if you are being lazy, get a cab from the large Centara hotel on the beach back up to the Villas...it is a lot cheaper than normal tuk tuks and cabs. Overall we found that if we took away the cab fares and money spent on wine (which is also ridiculously expensive everywhere), we would probably saved £500+ during our 16 day stay. If you want to save money or are on a budget, maybe stay somehwere more central as cabs will end up stinging you...

But apart from that, brilliant! Oh yes, another good tip, do a trip to Phi Island and stay there for a night, it's lovely. Enjoy!!

We stayed at the Spa Villa, the room has perfect sea view and fully equipped with various amenities. The hotel situated on a cliff with steep slopes, so you will have to walk down all the way to the pool or beaches. The hotel has a very nice spa and a good restaurant, we highly recommended the spa, very relaxing and you can see the see view. Since the rooms are villas, it is great to have your breakfast at your own room. I really like the decoration and the style of the room, more like a combination between modern and Thai style, however, we came across some problem with the air-con as it is not that cold (maybe because of the main door that design to open out and doesn't keep the air inside).

On some down sides, we've got our own car however, I think it'll be quite difficult to find a taxi in the area. So your own car is recommended, or get a hotel transportation. Moreover, the staff seems unsure about the hotel promotions/offer which we got from the Centara hotel in Bangkok so there's a bit of confusion and personally I think the hotel is a little overpriced.

We stayed for 8 nights. Had to change room after 2 nights which was slightly annoying.
Yes, showers needed some adjusting ... but hey! you are in paradise, surrounded by the most exquisite gardens, views, beach less than 5 min. walk through the rainforest. friendly and more than helpful staff, efficient service, excellent breakfasts included, and those irresistible Thai smiles! Do take advantage of the free fruit/vegetables carving and napkin folding lessons. We had a great time.
what more do you want from a resort which is still located near enough the shopping and night life , if you want it and yet , it felt a world away! Best of both worlds.
Yes it can be a bit costly if you go to Patong every day/night, but if that's what you are after, stay nearer. We went twice in our 8 day stay and that was plenty... all very much 'Same, Same but not different'...but we are no longer into coming home with lots of 'stuff'.
Personally, the spa was impressive visually and the staff lovely but even my request of a gentle, aromatic massage was met with a much too vigorous session and I ended up with a sore back... but then, I am an old unfit 65 yr old. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his spa experience...and other guests too... and no, sorry , no 'happy finish!'.there !...
ENJOY.....

Brilliant location with fantastic views from our sea view room. Yes, its a bit of a walk to the beach but going down isnt too bad and since we're a tad lazy, at the end of the day we would walk into the new centara grand thats right on the beach and take a cab back to the villas.. they charge 100 baht.
The thai food at the restaurant, The Cliff, was really really good as was the service.
The 2 pools are a lovely way to cool down after a day at the beach and the SPA.... oh the spa..... heaven. i'm a fan!!!
