After staying at the resort in July 2012 it was an easy decision to book another week there.
Unfortunately, changes have clearly been made, and not for the better.
The rooms are not clean. Walls have stains, windows were dirty. Cobwebs on the ceiling.
There are NO English speaking staff. When I was there previously there were two or three staff that had a good understanding of English. It was basically impossible to communicate.
The gardens are still beautiful, the pool clean.
However, the lack of service of the staff...leaving dirty plates, glasses and ashtrays after clients have long since left the tables. All while standing around doing absolutely nothing.
It's a shame, because it's a great location, near restaurants and the beach. I won't be going back.

Room Tip: The bungalows are at the rear of the property, and so you don't get any noise from the pool area...

This is one of the most peaceful hotels we have stayed in during our stay in Southern Thailand. It is approx 300 metres from the beach but in a side street away from the traffic noise.
We booked a superior room with twin beds. The price difference between superior and standard was not a huge amount. The room has air con, fridge, good size bathroom with shower over the bath. The room is clean and well furnished, not extravagant but comfortable. It also has a Flat screen TV, a wardrobe and safe. I believe you have to pay for the safe but at only 50THB a day it is really only a small amount to pay. There is a safe at the front desk for no charge.
The balcony of our room leads directly to the pristine pool. Sun beds and umbrellas are placed around the pool, far enough apart for privacy. The drinks in the mini bar are at market prices.
There are 10 private villa's at the rear of the property each with large bedroom, small private jacuzzi and outdoor shower. These would be ideal for those who wish to have complete privacy. These villas are accessed by way of a small but beautiful garden area with ponds filled with Koi fish.

The staff at the front desk don't speak very good English but don't let this put you off. The manager speaks perfect English and is very helpful.
This hotel is child friendly and the staff, even though their English is not great are very friendly and helpful.

The buffet breakfast, which was included in our room cost was good. There are fresh eggs, cooked anyway you want them done, fruits, salads, breakfast cereal, toast, ham, bacon, potato, rice, vegetable and noodles. Three types of juice/cordial, tea and coffee. The staff in the dining area are polite, attentive and efficient.
If you intend to go to the beach or pool you can borrow towels from the hotel. Obviously there is a charge if you do not return them but nobody would expect them to be free.
Within walking distance of the hotel there multitudes of restaurants, bars and massage shops. Nothing nicer than a Thai foot massage after a long day.

Just stayed at Karon Whale Resort and I was very disappointed. I have been going to Thailand for 16 years and I have stayed in many ranges of hotels and guest houses., this hotel is one of the worst I've stayed in. The rooms were in need of some painting, but they were instead replacing floor tiles in the reception. 1st room we had the aircon didn't work and there was brown water coming out of taps and shower. 2nd room aircon ok still had brown water from taps and shower. 3rd room water appeared ok for a few hours then back to yellowish water from taps and shower. Staff could not get there head around the fact that the water tanks were probably rusting and I need of replacing, not floor tiles in reception. I have not seen brown water from the taps and shower in a hotel anywhere in Thailand for about the last 10 years, it used to be a common thing in cheaper budget hotels mainly in Bangkok. As this hotel charges from 2500-5000 baht per night you would think they could invest in some new water tanks and give you clean water. Then I went to put my valuables in the room safe to find it locked. So my wife called reception to ask for them to unlock it, she was the told there is a charge of 50baht per night to use the safe, never have I been charged to use a safe before. Swimming pool had some broken tiles and covers missing on the drains in the childrens pool, hole big enough to get hand or foot stuck in, safety hand rail around childrens pool separating it from bigger pool hanging off. But they were replacing the floor tiles in the reception! Finally, asked for taxi to airport told don't have one you need to find your own, every hotel in Thailand either has a taxi service or will arrange one for you,its extra money for them, but not Karon whale Resort. Would not recommend staying here at all.

During our visit last year to Karon we met a couple from Australia who were staying at the KWR (Karon Whale Resort) and said it was very nice. As we knew we were going to be in Karon this year we went and had a look. The entrance was very good although we didnt look at any rooms.
We booked over the internet for 13 days and were happy with the price.
On arrival we were checked in and soon to our rooms.
The rooms smelt very musty great access to the pool. We had no shower curtain over the bath and there was "black mould" in the seal around the bath. It was most likely clean but looked terrible.
We had breakfast which was good, but decided we didnt want to stay.
We packed our bags and went to reception and told them we were moving out.
Not one person at reception asked us if there was a problem and why we were checking out.
We paid the cost of 1 nights accommodation and departed.
Another issue was it cost BHT500 a day of WiFi and BHT50 a day for the room safe, I can understand a charge fo WiFi, but never been charged for a room safe before....

Room Tip: Pool access rooms are great, but check the rooms first

Our holiday at the Karon Whale Resort didn't get off to a good start as the transfer we had booked from the airport to the hotel didn't turn up although this had been booked directly with the hotel. We had to get a taxi from the airport which actually cost less than what we would have paid for the hotel transfer. On arrival the manager apologised and upgraded us to a poolside room.
After this disappointing start our holiday just got better and better, we were able to walk straight out of our room to the pool and sun loungers and on most days we were the only people in the pool.

Our room was spacious and was cleaned every day, bed linen was changed every couple of days and towels were changed daily. Pool towels were available from the bar. Although the rooms were pretty dated and could do with refurbishing. they were clean, there was a safe, a TV, a hot water heater for tea and coffee, a hairdryer and toiletries in the room. Tea and coffee sachets were provided and renewed every day together with 2 complimentary bottles of water.
The bed was enormous and very comfortable, the air conditioning was very effective and easy to control.

The pool area and gardens were lovely, very clean and well maintained. One large pool and one small shallow pool for children were available, there was also a sauna in the grounds.

Communication with the staff was difficult at times as very few of them spoke English, however we managed and this didn't cause any real problems. During the first week of our stay the breakfast was served buffet style with plenty of choice, during the second week it changed to al le carte which was a suprise as no warning had been given that this would happen. Choice of food was lessened but was still OK, apparently the change was made because we had entered the low season and there were fewer guests staying at the hotel making a buffet style service uneconomical.

The hotel is very well situated in the heart Of Karon but is in a cul-de- sac, so no traffic noise when you are trying to sleep.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Karon Whale Resort to anyone who wants to chill out in peaceful surroundings.

Room Tip: Pool side rooms give immediate acess to the pool area.

If you're planning to go to Phuket you can can certainly choose this Hotel!
It's really close to the seaside but it's also hidden from the main road so the cars and motorbikes will not disturb you.
Very good breakfast is available and sunny swimming pool!
Rooms a big, really well cleaned and the A/C work great!

Try the thay massage at the top of the garden, you'll feel brand new!

Stumbled across this one stayed for just one night as booked to go elsewhere. Looks grand from the foyer, rooms very clean, with good amenities, breakfast was buffet style with good choice. Swimming pool good and clean with plenty of sunbeds. Ideally located for bars/restaurants etc.

I had some issues using the hotel wi-fi and lost some property, found it difficult to get myself understood.
