We stayed at this hotel only one night, as we the ferry for Phi Phi Island was leaving the following morning. At the airport we got a package including accommodation + transfer to the port, and that was the hotel we were given. The room was very large and the bathroom big enough but a bit dark. The view was terrible, we were just in front of another building and could see through its windows! In general, we got the impression the building was pretty old and hadn't been renovated recently. It also lacks the facilities you'd normally expect in a hotel of this category, such as a safe box or a hairdrier. Breakfast was ok. I wouldn't define the staff as particularly nice. A good place for short stays.

I stayed at the Phuket Island Pavillion only because I was kicked out of my other hotel because of the Chines New Year and there were NO HOTELS AVAILABLE. Let me just say my review is comparing the hotel that I previously stayed in which was cheaper. For the $$ the hotel was below average especially because across the street is the Phuket Merlin and that hotel is 100 times better for cheaper. Yes I paid $50 and you do get what you pay for, maybe I was just lucky before.
The hotel looks great from the outside and even the lobby looks good but once you get into the room it's really poor. The floors are really clean however the chair had dried blood and the bathtub was below average. The smell is gross and the chairs have stains.
The staff is very friendly and I would agree understand limited English. Thank god I only stayed for the last 2 nights of my stay in Phuket.
If you are going to stay in this area pick the Phuket Merlin Hotel.

What can I say about this hotel, well, it was really posh and on the cutting edge of fashion 30 years ago.
I remember very swanky hotels as a small child in the 70's and this would have been a doozy.
The room was huge with a big curving panoramic window.
The television was a little decrepid and from the late 80's or early 90's The decor was of its era and wallpaper had started peeling in places.
The controls for the lights and air conditioning by the bed were reminiscent of those found on a Bontempi electric organ, or Austin Allegro. (However after some confusion of which way the big dobbing, plastic keyring fitted into the hole in the wall, everything functioned well)
The bathroom had a standard bath, (with blue rubber anti-slip mat) and a tiled ledge all around for either your Campari & Soda or Cinzano Bianco. However no matter how I manipulated the various controls, I was unable to fill the bath by the tap and only by using the shower was this possible. The toilet, which is of a design I am always wary of, had to be fushed twice, every time.
There were no tea or coffee facilities in the room, but two bottles of water were provided and there was a minibar.
The breakfasts were unusual, cold fried egg on toast or an array of fried rice type things.
However the restaurant was pretty good for dinner and very reasonably priced whilst the staff were attentive.
Internet access was available in the hotel, but was not working the day I tried.
The hotel has a pool which juts out of the 5th floor, and some sort of kareoke lounge, which looked not suprisingly, like a 70's lounge bar.
The staff were as helpful as they could be with limited English spoken.
I was only there for three days and so enjoyed the novelty value of the place. However, for £15 a night you could do a lot worse!
