I stayed here for a night between going to islands. I'd seen it in lonely planet together with mixed reviews on trip advisor but thought I'd give it a go. Surprised that hardly any of the taxi drivers knew it heading out there, when it really is a great little hostel. Clean rooms with air con for a good price, hot shower, internet, nice light brekkie and staff that are very friendly and willing to help you organise wherever you are heading to afterwards.
People have complained about hard beds- but you're in Thailand the beds are always going to be quite hard, you get used to it. People also complain about thin walls? We felt perfect privacy.
They were even really understanding when the friend I was staying with turned up a night earlier. Definitely drop in at this place and spend a day wandering the streets of Phuket Town!

Central, quiet, clean, cheap.

Quite basic though.

Yes, you get what you pay for. This place is cheap, dirt cheap. We stayed here one night before we took the ferry to Phi Phi island, we paid for the pick up at the airport, and they booked us our ferry tickets- both great amenities. I think my biggest issue is with this hostel, is really the location and town-it's very run down and not a touristy area. The room is very basic, a bed, a small table, an outdoor bathroom, and a much needed AC on the 2nd floor. I was nervous of the bedding, and bed- but managed to sleep there. It's a no thrills, backpacker joint so if you are going for $15 lodging, than that's what you get.

Thank you for your feedback. Phuket Old Town is a nice old town area full of heritage buildings, which is more classic and quite different from touristy Patong. In my opinion, it's worth spending a night here to explore the town before heading somewhere else.

I have rarely been so angry at an establishment while on vacation.
We booked almost a month in advance for an A/C room and a pickup from the airport.
We took care to repeat multiple times, right up to our day of departure that we would be arriving at 00:50 AM at the airport and that we did not want to be forgotten at the airport. While this was a reminder on our part, it was interpreted by the staff as a strong desire to pay for the same service AGAIN.

Guess what?

Of course...they forgot us. Actually, they did not just forget to pick us up. They forgot everything. We get to Phuket airport at 1AM with pouring rain and no one to pick us up. As a last resort, after multiple calls and almost an hour of waiting, we take a taxi.

Getting to the hotel, there is no one to answer the door except a sleepy barely coherent lady, there are no free rooms except a fan room. So we are forced to take the room, sleep maybe four hours and are still charged for it, no apologies, no explanations, just a quick "thank you goodbye".

That is nice and all BUT it should be also noted that while the room was clean, our sink leaked so badly we were afraid to use it, same goes for the toilets that did not flush, no wifi working from our room or anywhere in the hotel at night. The fan barely reached the bed, our neighbor got up at 3AM, 4AM and 5.30AM to pee. We know...because you can hear everything! We also know he snored and spoke in his sleep.

For the price the experience is not that great, besides all the issues we had.

What makes me very unhappy is the fact that I had to pay in advance for this treatment, paypal fees included. It was clear that the room we had reserved for a few days was never going to be available so we just headed out in the rain once again to find another hotel.

This may sound overly dramatic but the rains were so bad this month that the town streets were flooded so it is not like this was a minor snafu that could be corrected easily.

Dear Valued Customer,

We deeply apologize for the bad experience you got. What happened was that the taxi driver we contacted forgot about the booking, despite having taken the fare, and our staff wasn't aware of that. Indeed, we, the hostel, earned nothing by providing that taxi service to you.

However, it is still our responsibility, so if you could tell us your arrival date and name, we'll give you a refund.

We have lately reviewed the transfer services and come up with some measures to handle the problems.

Regards,
Phuket Old Town Hostel

I stayed at the Old Town Hostel earlier this month. I had to pay online via paypal. Positives: the room was clean, the air con was new and very good, the bed was comfortable, and there was free wifi. Negatives: the rooms are all on one corridor (that I saw) and the walls are paper thin, so you can hear every noise your neighbour makes. Even snoring/talking. The steps are painful when barefoot and like a previous poster said, the downstairs lights are impossible to find. I had a 3am taxi pick up and I was loitering around in the dark because I couldn't find the lights. Also, the taxi driver who took me to the airport was driving recklessly, at one point he was driving at 125mph! But the hostel would never know this. Overall it was good, as long as you have earplugs!

Thank you for your valuable feedback and sorry for your negative impression. Here are our answers. :-)
1. Our walls are made up to the standard. Still we're well aware of possible noises that could disturb sensitive guests. This is the reason why we do not put TV sets into the rooms, but have one in the common area for our guests to enjoy instead.

Besides, we're expanding our guesthouse and the new rooms will have thicker walls.

2. We'll make sure that enough lights are on at night for our guests.

3. We feel sorry for you to have met a bad taxi driver. This is why we've begun providing our own transport services.
