Ok it's an old place. But does one have to put up with spider's webs hanging on the wall or flies in the hall with no air conditioning? A passing look into the kitchen on your way back to your table is also less than reassuring about hygiene standards.
Only a few customers seem to be locals who probably visit for their favourite spicy dishes. The rest are straight from the tourist mini-vans parked right outside. Though the food is tolerable, the prices are high: deep fried fish and mango salad 550/650 (depending on size).
Even if the food was great and the prices more reasonable, would one not prefer a more pleasant ambience and a cleaner place?
At least one well dressed couple was visibly disappointed at the rundown atmosphere. It's baffling how the reviewers who have praised the crab curry have totally overlooked it. Maybe the rationale is that good Thai food restaurants around this area such as the Lemon Grass are closed at lunch time.
