The monkeys are hilarious. Bring snacks, such as a bushel of bananas, and laugh as monkeys walk up to you and non-chalantly take them.

A few rules:

1. Never tease the monkeys. If they reach for your, give it to them.
2. Feed the big monkeys first. Only feed the little ones if the big guys are distracted.
3. Don't bring anything loose with you (hat, your own snacks, water bottles) that you don't want the monkeys to take. They *will* steal stuff and run off. You can bring a camera, but hang onto it tight.

It was definitely worth the walk from town (took ages because it was so hot the day we went so we kept stopping for breaks in the shade!). I would recommend that if you are going, either wait for a cooler day or bring an umbrella and lots of water. The cafes which are just before you get to the monkey bit are shut in low season so there is no way to get any more food or drink once you have started up the hill.

We spent a good while with the monkeys (northern pig-tailed macaques) and they were friendly. There were only 2 other tourists who didnt stay long and there were maybe 5 locals in the area which meant that we pretty much had the monkeys to ourselves unlike other touristy places in phuket.

One monkey tried to open our bag but he was gentle and taking the bag away was enough to stop him. The baby monkeys were very cute but we didn't get too close as some larger male ones were on guard so we didn't want to annoy them. When a local man came with fruit for the monkeys, it was good to watch them eat and the alpha came out and took some fruit straight from him on his bike! They must be used to this man as they were all less nervous around him and it seemed fine for the babies to go quite close to get the food.
Definitely go here, not to be missed.

This was an excellent place to see the monkeys. We found it by accident and I had not seen anything about this at all in the tourist books. We were walking back from a different location saw the monkey statues and then noticed the live monkeys in the mangrove behind. There was a stall there selling bananas if you wanted to feed them which we did. This is ideal for kids young and old :)

We decided to go for a walk, to check this place out. Beware, locally this place is not known as Monkey Hill, so asking for it in the town might be without results.

We didn't bring anything to eat for the monkeys, but we weren't alone. There were several tourists, even in the low season, that had taken the trip up the hill aswell. We didn't have to go very far before the first monkeys started to show, and as some of the other tourists threw cookies, crackers, bananas and more, the monkeys came running out of nowhere. There were a few dozen of them.

Unfortunately, this is a source of littering, as most of the crackers that were thrown were wrapped. The monkeys stole waterbottles on groundlevel, and emptied these before they were added to the littering.

It was nice seeing these monkeys on a close range, in their natural behavior, with no cages, but because of the trash I wouldn't visit more than once. Great one-time experience.

This is a place I definetly reccommend you to visit if you go to Phuket. Lots of monkeys in a free environment, and you can watch them running, jumping and climbing around enjoying themselves. Definetly reccommend bringing something to feed to them, as that really makes them all come out on the street. I don't think this is a place I would visit more than once, but its a great one time attraction in between doing other things!
