This is second time to come here, and recommend to friends before. I seldom give bad comments to a restaurant, but this time is a very terrible experience. One of waitress is terrible, poor service, unfriendly, sluggish. When we order food, she is very inpatient and show comtempt which totally ruined the mood to enjoy food. i strongly don't recommend come here have dinner and short stay

We stayed in Nest 2, the rooms were fairly basic but comfortable. As with many hut/bungalow type accommodations the lighting wasn't great at night but they do provide rechargeable torches. The food at both 1 and 2 was absolutely fantastic, as was the service provided by the staff. They were all very sweet, smiley and happy to answer questions / recommend dishes. We had a 2 hour Thai massage with herbal compress and would highly recommend it. We did a trek to the Lisu village through the Nest - it was very well organised and they sent you off with lunch, snacks and plenty of water, but the trek itself was a lot more hard-going than we had anticipated - NOT for the fainthearted or unfit. The only issue we had was the weather, it was incredibly cold when the sun went down so eating in both restaurants wasn't as pleasurable as it should have been as we were shivering even with socks, trainers, jeans, jumpers and scarves on!

My wife & I stayed at Nest 2 in a 2 bedroom bungalow. As there were only 2 of us we were given a discount to 1500bt in high season. Not cheap & I'm sure they do cheaper accommodation, but as we'd no booking this was all that was available. I have to say the bungalow was very well appointed, separate living room with big tv, 2 bedrooms, very good hot shower, tea & coffee making facilities.
The night was cold, but the bedding is of very good quality, so we didn't notice. Honesty mini bar is a nice touch & the prices are cheap.
There is plenty of space between each bungalow, so you're not on top of each other.
Breakfast isn't included, which makes it even more expensive. However from a really comprehensive breakfast menu, I had 1 of the tastiest bf's ever! The bacon & cheese in pancakes was nothing short of superb! Sat in the garden right next to Doi Chiang dao in the early morning sunshine with birds singing was wonderful.
Nest 2 lunch, dinner menu offers only Thai cuisine.
Nest 1 further up the road is Western. We had dinner there (as Nest 2 cook was away that night), very good soup, chicken breast, sauteed potatoes etc. Also very nice (complimentary) crudites with dips.
All in all we really enjoyed it. It isn't cheap & perhaps breakfast could be included.
Wifi wasn't great if that's important to you.

Physically, Nest 1 seemed like the nicest place to stay in the Chiang Dao. The cabins and the layout are very well done. (Nicer than Nest 2 also.)

We mainly ate at Nest 2 and other places. We weren't interested in the Western food offered at Nest 1, both because we preferred to eat Thai food and because we prefer local food (Nest 1 restaurant imports many ingredients from other continents).

One of the best parts of Nest 1 was Puk, who gave us our orientation upon arrival and was very helpful throughout our stay.

The biggest weakness of Nest 1 was that it seemed to try to cater to upscale guests more than travelers. The tours and massages they offer are priced higher than at other places, and Malee's next door, was WAY more helpful for getting good information on local hiking and travel.

So overall, we recommend staying at Nest 1 but going next door to Malee's for a meal or two and to get better information on the local area. And yes, we also recommend the food at Nest 2.

We had hoped to stay in Nest 1 but when we arrived without reservations they were full but they had 1 cabin available at Nest 2, which is located about 1 kilometer before Nest 1 so we stayed there. Cabins are the same as in Nest 1, comfortable and relaxing area, for the same price. I think the setting at Nest 1 is nicer and the swimming pool is located there as well although Nest 2 guests are welcomed to use it. Nest 2 is great but try for Nest 1 first.

We've been here 2 years ago. Staff were friendly and nice. After 2 days on the mountain peak. We went back to this resort to relax from a long trekking. Food were great. But no accommodation like TV or convenience stuff to make guest feel like living in a rural life. But luckily they have a hot shower :)

We initially planned on staying one night at Chiang Dao Nest 1 but decided to stay an extra night to enjoy the beautiful, peaceful surroundings. As others have mentioned, the two things that made this place special were the delicious breakfast and the lovely Pook who made us feel so at home and at ease as soon as we arrived (after a very cold drive from Chiang Mai in the back of a songtao). The huts are basic but clean with hot running water and no mosquitoes.

We did a one day trek (2 people with 2 local Lisu tribe guides) around the area. Highly recommended. A real workout with a lot of climbing (and crawling) involved and absolutely worth the money. The guides were friendly and we managed to communicate with a mixture of gestures and smiles.

Next time we're in Chiang Mai, we'll definitely spend a few days at Chiang Dao again.
