“Lovely!”
Reviewed 29 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

A truly lovely location and an amazing introduction to Wales. My guide to making even better:

- remember to bring tea/coffee. In retrospect this seems like a fairly obvious thing to do, but it did not even cross my mind. Wine was a handy replacement for the cup of tea after a long drive (boyfriend can certainly be relied upon to remember that), but the morning grumpiness could last well into the early afternoon if you are a coffee addict like me - the shops are fairly far away.

- be prepared to 'cwtch' - the bed is small, but, admittedly, very comfy and, being an expert bed hogger, I slept like a baby every night.

- brush up on your fire making skills: the log burner is amazing! It heats up the downstairs living area really well, whilst keeping the bedroom upstairs fairly cool. Unfortunately there was no proper wood to burn, only the small, tinder like planks, which meant that we could not keep the fire going through the night. Certainly should not be an issue through the summer and there is a good chance that we are to blame - we are certainly no fire building experts, although boyfriend would disagree, having spent an entire 5 minutes on the internet reading up on this

- be mindful to shower either before or after your neighbours to avoid spending 30 minutes trying to wet your hair. This was not really an issue, until the last day, as both properties have a 10am check our time...an earlier start may save you spending a big chunk of your morning in that shower.

- sunrises and sunsets on the beach are a must. During the day, the beach got quite busy with dozens of kids, barbecues and one late (ish) teenage party (was half term though, mind), but...in the mornings and evenings we had the beach completely to ourselves.

In summary, this is a great place and for the price - a bargain! The cosy, low key cottage and the surrounding beauty made me fall a little in love with Wales and, this is probably the biggest compliment any holiday let could have. A few tea bags and a little wood would have made this truly special!

“Lovely house”
Reviewed 20 March 2017 for a stay in March 2017

We stayed here for a family get together over a weekend hiring the main house and the annex and the shared accommodation worked really well. It's a lovely house with a very relaxed and welcoming feel. Well presented and very clean. It's a stunning location right on the beach but access is tricky so great if you are happy walking and want to get away from everything but it probably wouldn't suit people wanting to drive in and out every day. Take lots of food with you! We took our 4WD car down to the house but the owners helped others in our family and they were very friendly and helpful.

“Excellent getaway”
Reviewed 25 February 2017 for a stay in January 2017

I stayed her with my partner and another couple. This place is a real gem. Excellent location for a quiet break with beautiful views and direct access to the beach. Cottage has everything that you require for a comfortable holiday.
Whilst we were there our friend was taken ill and iI cannot stress how helpful Kath, the owner, was. Nothing was too much bother.
If you love the Gower then you will love the cottage!!

“Idyllic Adventure”
Reviewed 10 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

From the moment we glimpsed Pwll Du Bay we knew this was a very special place.
A beautiful and secluded beach literally a couple of minutes away, sea views from the bedroom and balcony, lovely spacious accommodation with a wood burner and everything you need for a break away from the noise and busyness of daily routine.
The owners were very helpful and friendly.
Normally access is by way of the owners 4x4 (being picked up at Bishopston Post Office) as the track down to the bay is not for the faint-hearted or anyone driving a *normal* car - but as my partner is a very experienced 4x4 off-road driver we were able to drive down ourselves which added to the adventure.
We spent hours on the beach, climbing the rocks and exploring the bay and rock pools.
There are footpaths to other beaches, the coast path is on the doorstep too and you can walk back up to Bishopston should you wish.
There is a great Co-op in Bishopston for supplies.
I would highly recommend this property and hope to return.

“Been before, going again!”
Reviewed 19 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Kath & Bob are first class hosts, this gets you off to a great start in a fantastic location. This was our second trip to Ship Cottage and I'm sure it won't be our last. Plenty to see and plenty to do, the beach outside your door is an added bonus! Reading through the visitors book I was not surprised to see how many people have returned for second and third visits.

“A Fabulous place to stay”
Reviewed 21 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

If you like beaches, walks and relaxation, then this is the holiday for you.Had a wonderful time staying in the cottage which was clean, spacious and had those extra touches that other holiday cottages don't ie lots of CD'd,DVD's books and games.

The beach was literally a pebbles throw away and on some days, we had it all to ourselves.
Walked up the Bishopston Valley one day to Kittle, which was...challenging.Every day ,we had eggs delivered courtesy of the owners' hens. The evenings were spent gazing at the log fire.

Will be seriously thinking of returning, perhaps in another season..Autumn?
