“Beautiful cottage with stunning views”
Reviewed 21 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

This waterfront cottage in Port Bannatyne is very comfortable with lovely large bedrooms and kitchen. A welcome pack of basics such as bread, milk, butter and eggs is provided on arrival and all kitchen basics such as washing up liquid, bin bags, dishtowels etc. are supplied. The fact that there is a bedroom and shower room with toilet on the ground floor was a bonus for my elderly father who struggles with stairs. We were very impressed with the interior of the cottage, the outlook across the bay and the close proximity to Rothesay (2.5 miles away). Bus stops in both directions are very close to the cottage so you can even abandon the car as buses go to all the places of interest on the island. Great wee place.

Thank you Jenny for your lovely review. It was good to meet your family, and I am glad your father appreciated the downstairs bedroom and shower/w.c. Hopefully you will return to Bute one day. Best wishes.

“Just right for us!”
Reviewed 24 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

This house suited us perfectly for our visit to Bute. We were a party of 5 - 3 adults and 2 children. It is clean and surprisingly spacious - quite tardis like! The three bathrooms were appreciated. It is an easy walk to the shop/pubs in Port Bannatyne and to the Ardbeg Stores for supplies. I heard from my beloved Aunt that it is a former whist house so it's historic too. The lovely view of the sea from the windows was enjoyable. We also appreciated the welcome pack to get us started - maybe McAlister's milk next time??!! William (age 11) loved it and did not want to leave. The rest of us agree with him.

“A very comfortable place to relax.”

I spent a couple of days here with my elderly mother and teenage daughter. The attention to detail and high level of comfort offered everything we needed and more. A lovely cottage.

“An excellent place to stay on Bute”
Reviewed 28 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This was my umpteenth visit to Port Bannatyne but my first stay here and all I can say is that I'll definitely look to book here again for any future visit. A very comfortable property with all the apparatus, in good condition, that one would expect in a holiday home, plenty of linen, towels, cleaning products etc. I can't recommend it highly enough.

“Beautiful weather but somewhat disappointing accommodation.”
Reviewed 2 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

During the last 10 years my family and I have regularly taken self-catering accommodation all over the West of Scotland. Having had this extensive experience, we are well qualified to assess and comment upon this type of holiday letting and its value for money.
Reading the comments available relating to this address, I now wonder whether we have been staying in the same house.
Our entry to the property was inauspicious and haphazard as the key holder had not seen the house previously and therefore did not have "local " knowledge of the amenities.
We were very disappointed to be greeted by a stale and damp odour permeating throughout the whole property.
There was no form of "welcome pack " whatsoever which is usual in property within this price range.
The furnishings were a jumble of mismatched items and readily showed their age and wear and tear.
Bed linen was extremely old and on one of the single beds the linen had to be changed prior to use as it was soiled.
Laundry facilities especially for families with children were poor with no drying green or area, no tumble dryer, no iron and no ironing board.
The basic cleanliness of the whole property was not acceptable. Windows and the patio doors were filthy and the only outside area, a very small patio to the front badly needed cleaning, weeding and last years leaves clearing away. This small area and it's furniture needed a power hose to it.
There was also no hoover to enable the dust and dirt to be kept down and no dishwasher which again is normal.
The kitchen was ill equipped with pans and cooking utensils and although there were cleaning liquids, there were no cloths (we bought our own). One pan had a broken handle and there was rust inside. The kitchen bin lid was broken and it required cleaning.
There was also no wheelie bin and nowhere to put the full rubbish sacks a normal family generates.
The ensuite toilet seat was loose and the shaving light did not work. A window catch was also broken.
Newspapers from August 2015 were in a bedroom drawer and the drawers were dirty.
Overall this was a property that did not warrant the price bracket it was placed in.
It was not value for money and we are unable to recommend it to other families especially those with small children.
A disappointing stay mitigated by the fabulous weather in the most beautiful countryside.

Thank you for your review which has surprised us as it is is the first ever bad review we've received, either on here, or on other similar sites. As far as cleanliness is concerned, that sounds disturbing, until one realises that you're referring to outside windows and patio, which do pick up dust from traffic and rain (Bute weather). The interior is spotless as the house is newly built.

All bed linen is clean, and beds are changed for all new guests.

We will look into the window catch and shaving light "problems". Thank you for bringing those to our attention.

Regarding saucepans and frying pans etc., we have never been told there aren't enough pans. We will look into acquiring more, to be on the safe side, (although the hob only has 4 burners).

Also surprised that you found an out-of-date newspaper in a drawer. I personally check drawers in case anything is left. Apologies that I didn't find that.

“fantastic”
Reviewed 14 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Stayed there for 2 nights, whilst attending a wedding on Bute. What a great place. Clean and tidy, great size for our party of 6 and situated in the lovely port bannantyne. Nice little pub with fab beergarden on our doorstep. Nigel, the owner thoughtfully left us an array of welcoming gifts such as bread ,eggs milk etc. Would highly recommend this cottage for anyone planning a stay in Bute.
