The only beachfront accommodation I know that is budget friendly, aside from Marlin's Beach Resort (which is quite on the high-end). Friendly staff, provides quite good homecooked meals. Rooms are quaint, we stayed in a cottage-style which gave us a lot of privacy (and also the chills, resort is quite dark at night). The place is not for the picky traveler, but it does provide the basic accommodation. We have to transfer here a night after we stayed at CouCou Lodge because of the proximity to the beach, and some personal reasons I don't want to disclose. Our contact here was Dodong. He is very polite and friendly to us and easily attended to our request to transfer. Pedicabs abound at their gate which made it easy for us to go around Sta. Fe town. Just be careful in saying yes to everyone, they actually take it as commitment.

Room Tip: If you are on a tight budget but still want the luxury of a beachfront, stay at Kota Beach Resort. F...

Great location, value for money and nice staff. The resort is nestled on the corner of the island with a long beach line to the right. The locals were very helpful as cooked fresh seafood, which were very delicious.

I traveled a couple of times to Bantayan but stayed here in Kota Beach twice, first in 2008 and the next in 2010.

The pictures I posted were taken in 2008, sometime around late September. The sand and waters were great. I couldn't say the same thing when we went there in 2010, around May. The beach wasn't very clean and the sand wasn't fine, must be the season.

Room Tip: The bungalows are a bit pricey but offer much room, especially if you're traveling with lots of...

when we arrived at the sta fe port the driver "mang dodong" was already waiting for us. He was there near the dock ready to carry our bags. He was very accomodating. When we arrived at the reception, we did not get a warm welcome smile from the person there. But I think this is natural with most cebuana women. i am sorry to say that they are not that warm, hospitable people. not all --- but most (you will find this comment in almost all my reviews during my 1 week stay. stayed at different hotels and tried different restaurants but same attitudes.). but she wasnt rude. she was just stiff and serious. we were led to our cottage. it was very clean and it did not have a musty old smell like what i've read in one review here. The airconditioning was perfect. we have 2 beds (1double and 1 queen). The room was spacious. plus we have a little porch where we can sit and talk and drink and hang our wet clothes and towels. The cottages are adequately apart so no problem with the noise. Kota has a nice beach front. although the sandbar didnt have water during our stay. maybe it was the month. well anyways it was absolutely beautiful. the resort is walking distance to a lot of restaurants. you can also try renting a bike to go around bantayan. it costs 150php/24 hours. everybody will offer you a bike. everybody claims they have a bike for rent (i was joking that i was gonna open a bicycle business since everybody owns a bike). the pedicab drivers will offer to take you to hk restaurant and say they have the best seafood. what they really should be saying is that they have the best commission there. haha. well they're just trying to survive.( you can read my other reviews of restaurants in bantayan). i saw some of the resorts and i think that Kota has the most beautiful shoreline. we paid 3200php for 3 nights for a group of 3. breakfast not included. we tried their breakfast one morning though. we waited 30-40 minutes for the food to arrive. as usual the servers didnt care to say sorry for the wait and no smiles. but they give in to requests of additional ice, sugar etc. but by now we were immuned to it. but the long wait was worth it. the serving can be shared by 2 persons. price is around 150php including coffee and juice. that's the only meal we tried there. we opted to venture around. you can also buy drinks and some chips in the nearby store to save you money. although the cottage that we had didnt have a ref. cooking is not allowed in the resort but they say you can buy food and let them cook it. they clean the cottage everyday and give you fresh supplies of soap, towels etc. its funny that the receptionists and servers dont greet and smile at you but the drivers, gardeners and cleaners stop to say hi, good morning, and smile at you. so it makes up for the other people. the 2nd day there was a storm in cebu. but it was so sunny in bantayan. all ferry trips were cancelled though there wasnt any rain. we went biking to ogtong cave. ogtong is a nice resort. they have a pool but it's shape is like a basin and is very deep. not good for children and people who cant swim. the cave was small but very nice. they have birds, goats like a mini zoo. beautiful landscape. but the beach is not nice. it rocky and they dont have a shoreline. entrance for visitors is 100php including swimming. by dusk it finally rained. but just for 2 hours. we were supposed to leave the following early morning but ferry trips were still cancelled but resumed by 11am. mang dodong actually went around town to find us and tell us about it. that's how nice he was. we checked out. by this time the receptionist was now friendly to us. is it because by this time she has grown used to us? well i dont know. but one advice is to not let this people bother you as to not ruin your vacation. all in all - kota is worth your money.

We chose this beach over others for one reason: Wi-Fi. My friend who previously booked to this beach told us that they have fast wifi and that sealed the deal for us wifi addicts.

The location is 15 minute ride from the port. The beach is just in front of you.
I also commend their restaurant. huge servings and erases your impression that touristy restaurants have expensive and small servings to boost profits. Keep up the good work. That is your selling point

Room Tip: book in advance and they will fetch you in the port for free. they will also give a free trip going...

Their rooms are in the form of cottages which is nice because you have your own porch where you can hang-out or dry your swimsuits (at the side). The cottages are at the beach front so we could swim anytime we want.

They have white sand beach, clear water and a nice sandbar.

What I didn't like is that they did not picked us up at the port but they said that they have free shuttle to and from the port. I texted them the night before and they told me to call them when we arrive. We got to the island at 6am and when I was trying to call, I can't contact them. One of the drivers of passenger multi-cab who was waiting outside the gates, offered us his service. But we declined and told him that Kota Beach shuttle will pick us up. Then he told us that the shuttle service starts transporting at 7 or 8am because that's the time their office will open. And so we agreed to ride the multi-cab.

Then we arrived at the resort and found no one at the gate and also at the reception counter! (So that's why no one is going to pick us up). We walked to the restaurant and there we found a lady who checked our reservations, assisted us to our cottage and called someone for our extra bed. Good thing our room is empty and she let us check-in earlier.

When we were about to pay our bill, they charged us more for the extra bed. The guy told us that the lady who first assisted us did not know the right amount since she works as a cook in the restaurant and not at the front desk.

But overall, I still enjoyed our stay in the resort even with some miscommunications.

1. travel is so not worth it! from cebu main proper, it will take, 3-4 hours for you to arrive at this port/ pier that will lead you to bantayan island. dont take small boats since the waves are very huge and scary in which bantayan travel is known for. we had to take a vehicle carrying ship just to be safe but it was no use for the notoriety of the waves. the ship ride hell will take you 1-2 hours depending on the kind of ship. the newer the ship, the faster.

2. dont be deceived by the pictures! it may look serene and picture perfect but the waves froting the shore are huge enough to pull and push you. it has lots of plan debris, charocoal and stingy jellyfish plus since it is near the pier, consider the trash being spewed once it has docked.

3. the comfort room sucks- salt/ sea water is used making your soap and shampoo very useless and no water heater and the tiles are full of molds. very small and dirty! the resort is so old that it needs renovation. no tv, ref or even telephone for customer service. at night, all the staff's are asleep and nowhere to be found.

4. the food takes forever! ours took 1 hour and was overcooked. i suggest to eat outside- there are a strip of resto's that take a 5-10 minute walk.

5. worst customer service. the staff mentioned to us that there is free breakfast for 2 pax but upon check out they billed us, denied that they said in front of our faces and worse they threatened us by locking their resort gates so that we would not escape our food bills. we eventually paid since our ferry will leave in 10 minutes. no manager was around and we felt that it were scammed!

quite sad the we had to experience this despite seeing the reviews here before going there to the resort. we all agreed that it was the worst resort that we have ever been into and we did some actions by telling the local tourist organization about how we were treated.

Room Tip: dont get a room at all! all the rooms here are filthy and so not worth it!
