Stayed in a 2 bedroom semi detached villa for a week in May 2007. After reading good reviews I was looking forward to our holiday but tried not to get too excited about the accommodation as we have previously been disappointed after having high expectations! However as soon as we arrived at Colina da Lapa I knew we had made the right choice.

The complex is very well set out, the villas are stunning and the grounds are beautiful. The villa was well equipped with everything you would need. The only thing I would suggest is to maybe take some dishwasher tablets or a small bottle of washing up liquid and a dish cloth, as there was nothing to wash up with & you don't really want ot go shopping for these things when you are on holiday!! The villa was very spacious with air conditioning in the lounge & both bedrooms.

I would recommend that if you want to explore the Algarve you should hire a car as the complex is pretty much in the middle of knowhere. The nearest beach we found was at Ferragudo, about 2.5km away, it was a gorgeous tiny beach.

We had takeaway twice from the restaurant on site, they phone you back when its ready for collection. Although we didn't actually eat in the restaurant both meals were lovely and the portions were very generous.

The shop on site is small but good for essentials, e.g. milk.

All staff were very helpful & friendly.

I would definately go back to Colina da Lapa.

This really is a great place to see and taste the real and genuine side of the Algarve. You wont see a Macdonalds or any other western fast food eatery anywhere near here.

Carvoeiro itself is a small, beautifully charming resort with plenty of quality resteraunts to choose from, some not directly obvious in the main resort so you will have to do some exploring and dig them out. As advised by almost everyone on here you will benefit so much more by having your own transport. Not just because of the Colina Da Lapa's location, but simply because to see all of the delights this area has to offer it is a must!

We chose a moped. Now I know that may not appeal to everyones taste but believe me it made our holiday! We were ourselves going to get a car but said to ourselves that we'll get a moped for the first day and then a car for the rest of the week. Well, we loved it so much we just kept the bike for the whole time.

You simply wont experience the freedom, frill or sence of adventure you get on a moped in relation to a car, and to really see and experience the beautiful countryside that is Carvoeiro and the surrounding villages and numerous beautiful beaches a moped is the only way.

The roads were so quiet and in truth it really was quite erie as to how quiet and deserted the streets and roads were in the area, this may be becuse of the time of year we went (early may) but it was so easy and delightful driving around the roads and country lanes so have no fear of it being dangerous. A car must have passed us on average once every half hour, if that!

Absolute musts to check out are Ferragudo, such a beautiful tiny little fishing village and only about 10, 15 mins away from Colina Da Lapa . a great place to visit for lunch or evening dinner and it has a huge massive golden sand beach just before the town itself - Praia Grande.

Along the same road just before Praia Grande is the stunning and gorgeous beach of Praia Caneiros. This is perhaps one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been on. Dramatically backdropped by huge cliffs and completley surrounding the beach itself. Because of the the cliffs, whilst sitting or lying on the beach the sound of the waves crashing on the shore gets amplified all around you and if you shut your eyes they even sound like they are coming from behind you.

Besides this, on either side, hidden away by the cliffs, are two more beaches that you can only get too when the tide is out. Once on there you will have your own beautiful private beach. This feature is the same for a number of beaches along that stretch of coast so always do some exploring. In particular check out Marhina and Albandiera beaches. Gorgeous.

Another must to check out are the towns of Silves, with ancient moorish castle and most especially the mountain town of Monchique. Take the country road from Silves to Monchique and you will experience THE most extroadinarily beautiful drive or ride. (depending on your mode of transport) The countryside is just stunning along route and again with virtually empty roads. it climbs slowly and takes about an hour to an hour and a half. You eventually climb to over 900 meters and once there it is truly an amazing view. There is a natural mountain spring there too that is said to cure or heal people of ailments if drunk or bathed in! The town itself is again so gorgeous and was perhaps the highlight of our stay in the Algarve. Try and check out the one of the Mountain top resteraunts when you get there, a great setting for a spot of lunch and again with amazing views.

I only mention all this as we saw so many people day in day out just lazing by the pool and if thats what you want then great!, Colina Da Lapa is pefect for that, peaceful, well maintained and a gorgeous place to stay. The villas are great, comfortable and our one had everything we needed from iron and ironing board to microwave and washing machine. You would more think it was your own little house, flat or villa rather than a holiday apartment.

Just dont foget to get around and see a few things as there is so much of that beautiful part of the world to experience and enjoy!

Preferably on a moped!

We were moved here after we complained about our accomadation in Albufeira. When we drove up in the taxi, we thought we had died and gone to heaven.

We were given a semi detached 2bedroom house. The kitchen was very well equipped with dishwasher and washing machine, the only thing missing was a kettle (so take a travel one) so we had to boil up a small saucepan all the time, there was also not enough plugs, one to be exact, for the microwave, coffee machine toaster and juicer.

There was air conditioning in both the bedrooms and the lounge, the TV was a little diserpointing as only had news channels in English, but you can get DVDs put on channel 1 via the reception.

You most definatly need a car here as all though the food on site is quiet good you really want to get out in the evenings and the curtosy bus only runs during the day. Try Chef Antonios in town wonderful food, very big portions, they give you so much included in the cover that you don't really need a starter.

It's very quiet here and if you don't want to go stir crazy Please Hire A Car

We booked this as a couple for a quiet, relaxing week away in early April, hoping for a bit of sunshine and a nice setting. It was everything we hoped for and more. The pink painted villas/apartments are beautifully set in landscaped gardens, and having a downstairs apartment we could sit out on the grass outside using the patio furniture supplied. On the other side we had a superb view over the mountains. Don't expect a sea view, or to be able to walk to the beaches, as this resort is in Sesmarias nearer to Ferragudo than Caroveiro and is well inland (which isn't obvious from the descriptions). You do need a car, even with the courtesy coach you are tied to their times. We hired one from the airport for only £57 for a week (watch out for the additional 60 euros if you want to not incur a huge excess in case of an accident!). Make sure you get a map to the resort itself, not Carvoiero, or you don't stand a hope of finding it. We didn't travel more than 10 miles away from the site, but as it is quite secluded you really do need it.
The apartment has everything you could want, except for mugs! Take some if you like a good cup of tea, or buy them from the Intermarche supermarket which is about a 7 minute drive away. Also missed having a radio, or a DVD player but Reception will give you a list of DVDs you can ask to have put on Channel 1 - or take your own and they will play them when you request.
The staff are the most friendly and accommodating you could wish for - nothing is too much trouble and they are just lovely. You won't hear a sign or frustration at your questions or requests.
Maids visit daily - a lovely treat (though they don't wash up dishes).
The only criticism 9and it's a small one) was the pillows - filled with what seemed like hard cotton wool balls, and so uncomfortable. Perhaps they are the same all over Portugal.

There was no entertainment (but we didn't want or expect any). The restaurant was fine, good fresh home cooked food, although we preferred to go out to the restaurants in Carvoiero. Kitchen is equipped with everything you could need if you want to cook in some evenings.
Pools are not heated in Portugal, so too cold for a dip, but weather was nice enough to sit on a lounger reading and this time of year there were many times we were the only ones around the pool.
Small shop on site for the essentials.
If you want a relaxing holiday, away from crowds, in beautiful setting, with plenty of space between the villas and the friendliest staff you could wish for, you will love this place. If you want nightlife and noise and English meals, this isn't for you.

Just returned from a week's stay at Colina da Lapa. The accommodation was fantastic, very spacious and clean.

We rented a two bedroomed villa and as there was only 2 of us we had more than enough space. To be honest - 5 people could happily have managed!! There was also a well equipped kitchen with washer, dish washer, juicer, kettle, toaster etc.

There are 3 restaurants which are in close walking distance - one quite posh and 2 pizzerias which specialize in pizzas/pasta.

Carvoeiro is about 10 minutes by car - where there is a lovely beach, Portimao is also quite close - where there is a gorgeous marina. We ate at mainly Bella Italia - Noslo - who are famous for the ice cream and crepes - which was quite reasonable.

In the past I have stayed at Alburferia but Carvoeiro is far better as it is not as commercialized and you don't get hassle from the scratch card touts!

The accommodation/service at this resort is A1! It is very quiet but very nice.

We went on ZebraSafari this year which was also very good - although the food was very basic but still good value for money 94 euros for 2 (this is cheaper if you go from Alburferia) as we were picked up from our villa!

We read other reviews before we went so we knew what to expect. We also agree with most of what is said in recent reviews (Sept/Oct 06), especially the good things said about the staff, cleanliness and peace and quiet. 6.5 km to Carvoeiro is a bit far without a car and associating the complex to that village as Cosmos Holidays did is somewhat misleading. The place is actually closer to Lagoa and Ferragudo.

We had one of the 2 bed apartments or should I say semi-detached villas and were most impressed. These clean an spacious villas really did have everything. We didn't feel the need to use the dish washer as we didn't eat any evening meals in. Only 6 place settings of dishes etc anyway. However, the washing machine was a real hit and we would recommend that you only need to take about 3 of 4 changes of day and evening clothes with you.

There are many more good things to say but have all been said before. There was little to grumble about. The entertainment was almost non-existent. Perhaps it was the time of year. We would also have liked a game of bowls on the full-sized all-weather green, but no equipment was available. However, the reception staff said something could be organised for a larger party of bowlers with advance notice. The games area was also a bit run down and look out for the phantom sprinklers spouting water around 9 pm.

In the villa the downstairs toilet is badly designed. Better use of the dead space under the stair could have made this into a proper shower room (esp with 5 or 6 persons staying and all needing showers). At the very least it needs external ventilation and a door you can get in and out of better.

We were eaten alive by mosquitos the first two nights but it was the same all over the Algarve. We are still scratching the bites one week on. At the Intermarche supermarket buy a couple of those vapour thingies you plug into wall to keep them at bay. You will have to keep the patio doors closed at night as well. A design improvement could be some mesh screens for them to allow you to keep cool at night and not let in the mossies - the air conditioning is too noisy.

We will definitely try to return in the not too distant future, but would arrange our holiday differently, i.e. not through a package tour company. The Cosmos internet rates were reasonable enough, but they let us down with the airport transfers (all around Vilamoura both ways) and the welcome pack (20 euros for stuff worth less than 8). We also had problems with getting our hire car on time and delivered to the complex from Europacar (booked through Holiday autos). We were also ripped off with the "hidden" collision damage waiver and full fuel tank fees. None of this was the fault of Colina da Lapa.

So next time we shall book out flights and accommodation separately and now we know where to find the place we'll book the car direct from the airport with a more reputable company. The car does give you the extra flexibility you need to get to all those interesting places, excellent restaurants and beautiful quiet beaches.

SShhh... Don't tell anyone. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday this is for you. Just got back from having a wonderful week at this complex. I booked this as a last minute late break the day before. I had read all the reviews so was not worried. The apartment was very spacious and spotlessly clean, they were cleaned every day. The only niggle was, that the pillows were very lumpy and some exteriors can do with a fresh coat of paint, but this is only cosmetic. Our apartment (No65) had a better view towards Portimao and the sea than the villas did.

The staff were very helpful, especially Sergio and Anna at reception who if you ask them about the area and local restaurants are very knowledgeable. Pareisio beach and Carveiro town are at least a 35 min walk DOWNHILL (in opposite directions). There is a courtesy bus to both and taxis are cheap but we recommend you do as we did – make sure you hire a car (pre-booked in uk) because this complex is slightly out of the way.

IF you are looking for lots of nightlife this is NOT for you (GO TO ALBUFERIA). This complex is GREAT if you want a relaxing holiday which we did. The golf courses are only a 5 min drive away and are excellent. FAB fish restaurants all within a short drive – best are at Portimao (under arches at port). Also try Tia Ilda on hill overlooking Carveiro beach! This review may sound as if we are gereatics, but we are not – we just wanted a great relaxing time at a place that was within easy driving distance of all amenities and sites, which this is! With motorway and quiet roads, we got up to Odexeise on the west coast (BEAUTIFUL, EMPTY surfers beach) within 2 hours including short stops to take in all the views en route. Silves, Monchique and Lagos all easy too. Enjoy!!!
