This is our repeat stay at Colina Da Lapa. Value for money & the complex grounds are beautiful. A nice size pool & the villa spotless with cleaners every day. The office staff very helpfull. I cannot fault. Bar food bites & drinks very resonable. Whilst you do need a car, it is only a short drive away from beautiful beaches and Cavoeiro town, where there is a wide variety of choice of lots of restaurants & pubs and good craic. Central to Slide & splash water park and within a short distance to other major towns for shopping or sight seeing. We hope to return in 2011 and don't see any reason not to return to Colina da Lapa.

Just returned from a 10 night stay at Colina da Lapa which was totally relaxing. The apartments are lovely - very spacious and well equipped. We had a one bedroom apartment which had a washing machine, iron and ironing board and the living room/dinning room and bedroom had air conditioning. The apartments are in blocks of six in lovely, well maintained gardens.
The apartments are very out of town but there is a free bus arranged by reception in to the town of Carvoeiro and to the nearest beach. The bus in to town runs twice in the morning but doesn't run at night.Taxis can be ordered from reception and cost approx €8.
There is a shop on site but it never seems to be open. Apparently, if you ask at reception they will open it but we never did.The nearest other shop is a 15-20 min walk.
The on site restaurant is ok. We ate in the Island Cafe over the road which is great. The menu isn't massive but the food is good and cheaper than in town. Watch out if you are offered bread in any restaurants as you will be charged for it.
If you do walk about be mindful that the area surrounding the apartments is mainly residential. At night the locals seem to let their dogs roam wild and some of them are not friendly. Also, mosquitoes are a problem at night in the apartment if you have had the doors open.
If you want to get about then a car would be useful.

This was our fourth visit to Colina da Lapa and again the reception staff were very helpful and always with a smile. The restaurant has been taken over and although the food choice is not vast we ate in the restaurant twice and was served by a lovely young lady who was always very pleasant.

In our group was my husband, teenage son (and friend), myself and we also took my sister, her husband and the little fella (nearly two) and stayed in a 2 bedroom villa. The villas could certainly do with a lick of paint and largely updating inside i.e. curtains etc it wouldn't take much to have them looking more appealing and modern. The grounds are still as wonderful as ever, lush grass and beautiful flowers all around.

The villas are exceptional value and you feel like your at home, the freedom to keep doors open, drink on the balcony and let the little ones roam around playing football outside.

I have always loved this place since my very first visit and would go back year after year. We have had a two year break from Colina and I have missed it so much, definitely re-visiting next year.

Highly recommend Colina da lapa to anyone who wants a nice quiet break away from it all and also with the choice of the shuttle bus to the beach and back which is very reliable and free of charge.

This is the first time we didn't hire a car for the holiday period and to be honest, except from the supermarket run we really didn't miss it. We got a taxi to the supermarket which picked us up 1 hour later and drove us back to the complex, parked on the drive outside the villa and helped us in the the shopping....now thats service.

We have just got back from a week at Colina da Lapa and found it just as relaxing and enjoyable as the Belfast reviewer, June 2010. The site has very well maintained and spacious grounds. The apartment was a very good size, although we were a bit disappointed with the minimal kitchen utensils, i.e. 1 small bread knife and 1 sharp knife, no mugs. The bathroom is nice but again soap and tissues would be expected in a 4 star establishment.
We found the pool area really relaxing, you can stay poolside or use a sunbed on one of the grassy terraces with shade from the trees if you want it. The pool itself is a nice size and shape, not too deep but quite cool. The bar staff are friendly and the burgers and chips were good. The restaurant menu is a bit limited, we would advise self catering and using the local restaurants. We liked The Island Cafe opposite the entrance and Pizza/Pasta cafe beside the little supermarket half a mile walk in Sesmarias.
We did hire a car from Faro Airport, (expect long formalities at pick up and drop off) which we found very useful to explore the local area and get to more beaches. Our favourite bit of sightseeing was Mundo Vivo, the festval of Sand. This has truly amazing sculptures in sand, plenty of wow factor!! There are also some good craft stalls there, again friendly people.
We would definately return here as we slept really well and loved the peace and quiet. It is not for those wanting nightlife and loud music!
