I have joined tripadvisor specifically so that I can write a review about this fantastic hotel! I booked this hotel to stay with my mum to celebrate her birthday, as a surprise for my mum. The hotel was exceptional. The decor is minimalist/modern and we were greeted at reception by Susana who was very helpful. We were upgraded from a standard room to a superior town house which was AMAZING! It had 2 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and a large living room and dining room area. It had its own little garden and had sky TV in every room. The rooms were immaculately clean and the maids were superb. We went out for lunch and arrived back to find champagne on ice and a birthday cake for my mum. The attention to detail was fantastic and I have never been to a hotel where I've been made to feel so special. The spa was lovely as well.

This isnt really a hotel for children. Its a spa hotel in the middle of nowhere so perfect for relaxing. We enjoyed the food at the pool bar. There was a lot of choice (salads, burgers, sandwiches) for snacks and it wasnt overly expensive. Obviously you have to wait for the food to be cooked and it was cooked freshly so maybe that's why people feel there was a wait but we didnt experience this. The staff were busy but not moody. Breakfast was a good selection and very nice. The only thing which was not great was the evening buffet. It looked disappointing but we ate in the a la carte restaurant (Serenata) which was nice. There are places to eat nearby so there are alternative options.

I would stay here again no question!

We stayed self catering in a townhouse from 21 to 29 June 2013. Upon arrival the reception staff were very welcoming, helpful and polite. We stayed in villa no 13 which was slightly outdated internally but spacious and had everything we needed. The complex itself is very pretty with well kept gardens and beautiful flowers. The outside of each townhouse is very private also with a private balcony area for evening dining (we purchased a BBQ from the local supermarket fro 35 euros which we used quite a few times cooking a fabulous selection of meat also bought locally.

The pools are well looked after and we personally found that the children's pool which wasn't shallow was a lot warmer than the main pool so we spent our days relaxing around there and also visited local beaches as we hired a car from faro for the duration of our stay.

We ate a couple of times at the bar area and found the service to be prompt, efficient and we definitely had service with a smile.

All in all we had a lovely stay and would not hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: I would upgrade to the superior next time as I believe these are the more modern rooms

Our first visit to Portugal. Went as a family of four, with two young children ages 3 and 1. On arrival we were upgraded from a suite to a townhouse. The townhouse was very spacious and more than adequate for our holiday needs. The only criticism on the accomodation would be the stair railings which were a bit dangerous for young children. They were horizontal and my 1 year old could easily have fallen through. We barricaded with cases to make a bit safer. All the townhouses are slightly different so this wasn't an issue in other ones.

We found the cleanliness to be of a high standard, the staff friendly and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. The area is beautiful, we had planned to hire a car, however, as this was our first trip there was plenty to discover only a short distance away from the hotel. We used the free shuttle bus and taxis. Would maybe hire a car next time to visit further afield.

The food was of good quality. The breakfasts in particular were delicious. We went half board but would consider bed and breakfast next time as there are so many nice restaurants to experience. I recommend Onze In Carveiro, and Bela Rosa behind the hotel Vale D'el Rei.

All in all we had a wonderful week and would not hesitate in visiting this hotel again.

We returned this year with our baby.

We had a townhouse this time which was lovely. It was spacious and clean and the garden we had at the back was beautiful. The bedrooms are large and both had an ensuite plus an extra bathroom downstairs!

We were half board and the food was nice. It was hot and freshly cooked, a few nights when it was busy we had to wait a while for it to be refreshed but the chef came down and apologised and said it was because he had to make it from fresh, I would prefer to wait for that than have reheated food!

The staff are excellent. On some days they were very busy and we had to wait a while to get served but whilst we were there a lot of new trainees started so I presume the hotel are addressing this problem.

Whilst we were there we had a few personal issues and the hotel went above and beyond their duties to help us, the kindness they showed us was very touching and we cannot thank them enough. Unlike Jet2 holidays who were extremely unhelpful.

The spa is amazing, Gracia is the best therapist we have ever been to, she has healing hands! The Jacuzzi and Sauna are lovely too, we had them to ourselves and it was bliss!

For the price you pay for a holiday here I think it is excellent value. The pool, gardens and hotel are all beautifully kept and we hope to return again.

Have just returned from 10 days of heaven, the hotel and grounds are beautifully maintained.
The staff on the whole are amazing and will go above and beyond to make your stay a pleasurable
Experience, ana at the pool bar is diamond with a big smile and warm welcome. The grounds are a complete shock at first so big and to me it was an oasis of peace from the grassed areas to watching for frogs and fish in the stream and large pond. If you go you have to try serenata al carte
Restaurant great food and attentive staff, the evening meal and breakfast food served at the pool terrace are varied and off good quality, great desserts. Will return to this little gem.

We stayed at vale d'el rai from the 13th to 23rd of June.
After reading some of the latest reviews I am a little shocked and am wondering if this is the same hotel! The hotel it's self is is actually very nice, clean ,modern etc.. We stayed in a town house which was great really, a bit minimal and differs to the website quite a bit but on the whole great value for money. The main problem here I would say is lack of organisation and bad attitude within the staff. The service is terrible, no other word for it, I did not come across 1 staff member who knew what they were doing! To get a drink at the pool bar you had to literally drag a member of staff out of the buffet restaurant to serve you, they would then be really unfriendly and the price would always change for the same drink! The food was really bad and you could wait nearly an hour for a sandwich while the staff argued amongst themselves! Our villa was dirty and the maids did not come until 5 in the evening, sometimes not at all unless you rang reception. They sell Wifi for your room at 30 euros a day which seems excessive and the best bit is apple devices rarely work, but apparently that was the fault of my phone and ipad! Even though they both worked fine in the local supermarket for Free. My last Gripe is the hotel advertises a kids club and entertainment, kids club was closed with no explanation and we had 1 nights entertainment in 10 days - a parrot on a scooter!
I have never written a review on tripadvisor but felt compelled to after this trip, if you are used to 4 or 5 star hotels you will be very disappointed with this and don't take kids, they will be bored stiff.
Sorry to be so negative but it's true. Holidays are very expensive these days and you should at least get what you have paid for, you don't here.

We've just returned from our 12 day honeymoon at Vale D'el Rei and we can't thank the staff enough for the warm welcome we recieved, not to mention the "little surprise" we got, which was to be upgraded to a wonderful room with a view overlooking the pool, a bottle of champagne and a selection of fruit with a chocolate fountain. It was fantastic!! We had read the trip advisor reviews before we booked so we knew the hotel was going to be a fair distance from the town, which is exactly what we wanted - quite and relaxing - and that is what we got!! We hired a car, which was a little more expesive then we hoped as they didn't have any of the cheaper cars available - and they add insurance on top at 10euros a day so if you're planning on doing this make sure you've got at least 280euros (this is what it cost us for a week). However, it was worth the money because we went all over the algarve with the freedom to go whenever we liked and come back when we wanted too. If you're planning on staying local though i'd recommend getting the shuttle buses as they were always on time with a friendly driver to take you to the beach and the town.

We had planned on going into the town for a meal most nights - or one of the local towns, like Albuferia, Villamora and we even drove down to Sagres, which was stunning! However, we ended up eating in the Serenata (a la carte) restaurant 4 nights out of 12 because we were absolutely blown away the first time we ate there.

The food was absolutely amazing and for 2 people who like food, and drinks (alot) the meal never came to more than 58euros, which was less than the meals we were having out of the hotel. We also had the most fantastic waiter Ricardo Ferriera, whose has impeccable customer service skills - and people skills in general - and looked after us every time we went. We had the buffet downstairs once but found it disappointing as it was cold - and for the small extra you pay to have the a la carte, it was worth it!

We loved the Spa too - we ended up going twice!! The facial and massages we had were incredible and far better than any i've had in the UK. Plus, an extra bonus was that we had the use of the spa to ourselves afterwards which was a lovely treat, as there was no-one else booked in that day - so not guaranteed, but a bonus :-)

Overall it was the perfect holiday - the right mix of getting away and seeing the Algarve in all it's glory (and 33degrees might i add) but also wanted to get back to the hotel because it was so friendly and relaxing. We will definitely be back and have already been highly recommending it to friends & family. Thanks Again! mr & Mrs Bennett :-)
