We have just spent a lovely week at this beautiful hotel and I must begin with the positives. It is quiet peaceful and spotlessly clean. The whole site is immaculately maintained and the staff,to a man,are perfectly charming and helpful. We were upgraded to a villa/townhouse which was spacious, furnished in very good taste and comprised two floors, two large bedrooms,a large sitting room, three bathrooms all with showers , and a fully fitted kitchen. It was in fact too big for just two people but we were not complaining!
Now with great reluctance I must mention the negatives! We were informed that a day or two before we arrived the dining system was changed from a 'la carte to buffet. It has not been a successful transition. The evening meals are unimaginative and dreary. The cooked selections are invariably lukewarm at best and stone cold at worst. Although we were staying on a half board basis we opted to change our dinners for lunches (which are better because they are cooked to order) on two days. Many other guests were equally disappointed with the food. I do hope the management are able to take notice of this and act on it as this otherwise a great hotel.

We have been to most of the five star hotels in Portugal but have visited this hotel twice in the last year. The rooms are clean and modern, the hotel and grounds are immaculate and the staff, and I include all of the staff, are polite and helpful and a credit to this hotel. This is a complex that is managed to the highest standards and it shows. The breakfast is great, sit on the terrace and take in the peace, the afternoon menu offers a good choice, same great service and the evening meal is served in pleasant relaxed surroundings and is always a good experience. I think the chef doesn't get enough praise, but well done my friend, the food is always presented well and tastes great. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday and just want to get away from all the hustle and bustle then this is the place to stay, you will not be disappointed.

We are back from our holiday in The Algarve staying at the Vale D'ei Rei Hotel, our daughter and her partner came with and we were extremely lucky to be upgraded to a Villa which was absolutely lovely and just the right size for the four of us. Servicing of the villa was also excellent, clean towels most days if needed. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and always very pleasant, nothing was too much trouble for them. Food very good and the chef was also open to a couple of small changes in the menu and would accommodate us. The smaller pool outside the villa was perfect and just what was needed as the weather was quite hot for the beginning of May. You cannot fault this hotel. We will be going back next year and have already recommended this hotel to our friends.

We returned to Vale d'el Rei for our second visit this year and it was every bit as good if not better than the first time. The hotel and grounds are immaculate and the staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. There was free win fii this time and coffee and tea making facilities in the room this time which was a bonus. The food was amazing and service friendly and efficient. We love the tranquility and relaxed atmosphere, can't wait for our next visit.

My wife and I are just back from our week long holiday in Portugal, staying at Vale D'ei Rei hotel and we never been so relaxed and chilled out. It was our first time away without the kids (now 19 and 22) and the best holiday in over 10 years. Possibly because we didn't have the kids! Whilst the weather wasn't ideal (raining two days in May!) this didn't diminish our enjoyment of the hotel or surrounding area. The hotel and resort is spotless throughout.
We stayed in a standard hotel bedroom which was identical to four star bedrooms across Europe. A bit on the small side but quite comfortable. The real plus is the hotel grounds and general ambiance which of the resort which is enhanced by the fabulous staff. We cannot speak too highly of all of the staff (including handyman and minibus driver!). All queries and requests were met with smiles and helpful advice and assistance. My wife made use of the spa taking a massage and thought it was the best she's ever had and so went back for a second a few days later.
We heard from guests staying in the townhouses that they were superb with the comment that ground floor kitchen / lounge was too big for 2 bedroom accommodation, and 3 bath/shower rooms!
The grounds of the resort provide a large garden and grassed area for sunbathing and children to play...football if they want, its big enough.
Are there downsides? Well yes. The first would be that the bar closes at 12 midnight. This does have benefits in that you can return from holiday feeling relaxed and chilled without the results of hangovers and the onset of liver disease. Secondly, the restaurant provides for those on half board and uses the same menu for paying customers. An evening meal of starter and main meal with wine would likely cost £50-60 Euros but the food isn't of that standard. Fine if you pay the supplement for half board (probably working out to £10 per meal) but not if you're paying full price. Nevertheless, the restaurant is contemporary and again all the staff are brilliant.
There are no other bars or restaurants within walking distance but taking the free shuttle to Carvoeiro provides a wealth of choice and only £8 for the taxi home at whatever time you feel like. Finally, the tv's offer only a few English speaking channels - CNN money news, a kids channel and music channel so take a few books.

Our thanks go out to the staff.. My wife has already checked out availability for a return trip in September - suite here we come.

What can I say that has not already been said? What a fantastic hotel! Great location (as stated 2 miles from the beach, 4 miles from the town) for people who wish to relax and get away from it all. Suzanna was exceptional from day 1! We were booked into a room originally, however I asked if we could be upgraded to a suite. Unfortunately a suite was not available so we decided to pay a little extra and upgraded to villa 21 - amazing! HUGE. Great staff, great food and nice people. Thank you all for a wonderful holiday, cant wait to return.
