“Fantastic resort”
Reviewed 2 December 2012

As the resort is away from any main towns it is the most fantastically relaxing resort. The resort and buildings are immaculate, staff are great, food and wine amazing. The resort is a taxi ride from carveiro (15 euros each way) but there is very little open at this time of year but worth a visit for a few hours out. Spa is fantastic great treatment included in the deal and very nice facilities. The pool is quite small but adequate for the size of resort. Food in the restaurant is great - ask for the snack menu if the prices are a bit out of your budget on main menu. Snack menu has pastas pizza burgers etc. chef has gained a prizes ( poss Michelin star ?) this weekend so gives you an idea of how good the food is. Great resort for couples 40plus

Room Tip: We were upgrades to a sea view villa with grade 401

Remote location , nicely designed with good facilities , friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Restaurant offers good breakfast , lunch and evening meals are a bit pricey with the restaurant menu being a bit too sophisticated for the chefs capabilities.
Peaceful atmosphere, even though most suites were occupied, the place felt pretty empty. Would return & recommend .

Spent 3 nights here with my wife. Difficult to find if you forget your map (doh!) but well worth the detour. Reception was excellent. We arrived early so were given a guided tour of facilities whilst waiting for our room to be readied.
The suite we had was two bedroomed with excelllent bathroom, kitchen and lounge area. Small balcony for sunbathing or just chilling out.
If you plan on cooking or just making a sandwich you'll need to ask at reception for some pots and cutlery but this is not a problem and ours were delivered within 5 minutes of asking.

The Spa facilities are good but you MUST wear a swimming cap if you intend using the indoor pool.Bring your own or pay 5Euros in the spa reception.

Breakfast was a superb affair, with great choices of fruit, cereal, assorted rolls, cooked meats, smoked salmon and also bacon, eggs, chipolatas, mucshroooms and baked beans. There was even unlimited sparkling wine if that's what you fancy at 8am!

Ate in the restaurant on our first evening. It was ok but nothing special and very pricey. Take a trip to the local villages for local food at less than half the price.

Overall, a lovely resort with great facilities, right on the beach and well off the beaten track.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, it's gorgeous

Although its a little out of the way, the hotel is very good. It has a great location right on the coast with a wonderfull little beach a short walk away, complete with its own beach bar serving drinks and pizzas. The accomodation is set in well kept grounds, and is modern, clean and spacious, the restaurant serves good food and the staff couldn't have been more helpfull and friendly towards us and our 1 year old son. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Although we booked a sea view room the view of the sea was still fairly restricted so perhaps better...

I won a stay here for two nights bed and breakfast. I live about 10 k away and had never heard of this place. An extremely well kept secret! But what a lovely surprise. A fabulous position on the cliff tops. Easy access to the beach, great swimming, lovely cliff walks. The suites were very well appointed, homely and luxurious too. No kitchen equipment, but whatever you needed was quickly brought to your suite. We had a top storey suite, steep stairs, so maybe the access wouldn't suit every one. Although there was a children's play area, I wouldn't bring mine here, I think it should be kept adult only, simply because it was so perfect and relaxing, a real "get away from it all place".I think it is normally quite expensive, which keeps it exclusive. The food was excellent, breakfast was very good as was the evening meal. An excellent wine list too. We found the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. You do need a car if you were here for a week, but for a day or two don't bother......just relax. You will find that easy to do here.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in a Suite Villa at Suites Alba for 4 nights in the first week of October. Early October is a great time to visit, as it is out of season, meaning less crowded and less children, but still sunny and 25C - 27C - and best of all it's cheaper.

Service & staff: From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we received nothing but an excellent service. The people working in reception were incredibly helpful whenever we needed anything and also gave good tips about what to visit in the area. We checked out at 11am, but our flight was not until the evening, but they still happily looked after our luggage and let us use towels from the spa as well as the shower. Maids, restaurant staff, reception staff and spa staff were always friendly and forthcoming.

Accommodation: We stayed in a 2 bedroom Suite Villa with a small terrace and garden. The villa was stunning, nicely decorated which gave it a cosy feel. There is a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher and you simply have to ask for any cooking appliances and plates at reception. It's best to ask for cutlery before the restaurant opens in the evening as it is delivered by the kitchen staff. The prices for items in the mini fridge ranged from about €2.30 for a soft drink to €39 for a bottle of champagne/sparkling wine.

Restaurant/food: Our package included breakfast buffet, which we really took advantage of. The food was amazing - the selection included fresh bread, a range of hams, salami, salmon, cereal, a large selection of fresh fruit, fried sausages, eggs, bacon and much more.
We had dinner at the restaurant the first night - it was not amazing for us as we are not big fans of haute cuisine. The food tasted great, but the portions were small and it cost around €25 for a main course. It was not until the last night we realised the restaurant had a room service with much cheaper 'normal' meals such as burgers, chicken and salads.

Facilities/location: The location is ideal if you are looking to get away from everything and just want to relax by the water. The resort is located right by the sea and has a wonderful landscape which makes for some great sunset walks. The beach is less than a 5 minute walk away and is simply stunning, clear blue water and surrounded by limestone. If you want to get around and are not travelling by car, you will have to get around by taxi or bicycle. We took a taxi to the nearby town Carvoiero, which cost around €10 - €15 euros. It's a useful place to visit if you want to buy food, souvenirs or simply want to go to a restaurant or have a drink.

We enjoyed our stay so much we can't wait to go back again next year!

Amazing atmosphere, nice views, good restaurant but not really and spa resort as you can't get relax in such nursery. We thought it was a hotel mainly for families but at least they could let you know in advance, as we had to share even the jacuzzi with some kids (3/4 years old). Try it because it worth it just because of the place (praia da abandeira), but don't expect a usual Spa because it was a nightmare...
