“Relaxation & fun!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2010

We have just returned from Tobago having had a great 3 week holiday. The hotel is in a fantastic location with turtles & hatchlings right there on the beach. Ok so the hotel is an old building but they are refurbishing the rooms & we had no problems with ours at all. We found all the staff to be very friendly, welcoming & some were so funny (especially Elizabeth & Hilda in the dining room!) we could always find something we liked at meal times although it would be nice to see more of a selection of salad as a main meal at lunchtime. Also an outside eating area would be so nice & cooler.
Please use Peter Cox for the wildlife trips as he is exceptionally good.
Good luck to the new manager & his assistant Toby with planned improvements, hopefully we will be back to check them out!

Reading the reviews, I do wonder why some people bother to go to the Caribbean. Tobago is not Miami. Rex Turtle Beach is not on Park Lane.

However, if you want a gentle and relaxed place - not too many tourists, no big tourist centre and some fabulous wildlife, both underwater and in the rainforest - go to Tobago. We've stayed at this hotel fourteen times over the last eighteen years, largely not as our main annual holiday....but somehow we just keep going back.

The staff are universally wonderful; they are Caribbean - so they are chilled; respectful but slow...all part of the charm. If you want to snap your fingers and expect a cocktail in seconds, go somewhere else.

The rooms are simple, but it's difficult to see that you need the nth degree of luxury when you are literally right on the beach...and Courland Bay is to die for...a pure, unspoilt, curve of white coral sand about six km long. I've spent much of my working life in five star hotels around the world - basically, give me character any time...I'm not interested in marble palaces. This place is oozing with character, right down to the gardening team who will happily take you on a tour of the ample grounds and describe the evolution of each plant.

The food is excellent and plentiful - served in a restaurant cooled by the open sides....no nasty air conditioning here! The servers couldn't be nicer. And you really get a flavour of Caribbean food.

The hotel has changed a little over the years, but essentially it remains a jewel - a wonderful, timeless, piece of Caribbean treasure. We're back there on 11 October for three weeks and i just can't wait.

From the first call i made to the hotel i knew this was the place that i wanted to go for my 3rd anniversary. The receptionist (Ms. Alexander)was well spoken and very patient in dealing with me.We arrived at the hotel a little earlier than check-in time and was greeted with a welcoming smile along with light refreshment and a refreshing mint towel to refresh ourselves while we wait on our room. That made my wife so happy and once she was happy i was happy.Thank you Ms. Springer and Ms.Ranata.I must say, the rooms were clean and all the towels Lily white compared to some of the places i went before. The only problem i had with the room was that you could not receive wire-less internet and the cable chanels were limited, the GOOD NEWS is that TSTT was working on the problem during my stay there. The Breakfast ,Lunch and Dinner were magnificent, could you imagine eating as much as you want at a Buffet Style with Ms. Dumas and her friendly staff assisting you.Thumbs up to the Bar men also, always ready and waiting to serve, keep up the good work. When you want to talk about a SAFE Resort you have to talk about Turtle beach Resort. For my two Days spent there i have seen Army personnel making rounds on the compound along with the Hotel Security, anywhere we turn we saw security personnel walking by thou matter what time of the day.Well for the surrondings , my wife enjoyed every bit and corner of it, from the pool to the sea and back. I must say this is the kind of life each human being should experience.May God continue to Bless Turtle Beach Resort by Rex and their staff.See you all soon.

Had a brilliant holiday here. Highlights were a trip to the rainforest and Little Tobago with Peter Cox, best guide ever. Did the twin river hike which was awesome and you must go to Genesis nature reserve to see humming birds feeding. The staff were brilliant led by Tobias an excellent undermanager. We did have a faulty A/C but it was replaced with a brand new unit. Food ws excellent, lots of choice and various cuisine. See Darryl for the most beautiful paintings. Beware of SOME of the locals, just use your common sense and you will be fine. Sea was a little rough for us but the pool is one of the best I have swam in. It was wonderful to see the Giant Leatherback turtles laying their eggs at night

Brilliant location to see Giant Leather Back Turtles!

Only drawback with locationvis there's little choice in where to eat other than hotel resturant an no real shops.

If you can drive I'd recommend hiring a car as they drive on the left hand side as the UK. Taxi aren't cheap!

Would I go again, YES!

Please close for renovation!! Excellent location, lovely pool and beach facility, however the hotel is a bit dated, stuck some where in the 80's. In 2010 there is no means of charging you cell phone , I Pod, or using an electric shaver in your room, the Hotel needs some serious upgrades to the property, for example the rooms, the lobby, the dinning room and better lighting for security on the path to the rooms.

Hi
Rex resorts on Turtle beach is, I would say, value for money. The positives are is that the beach is really good, the pool area is decent and the rooms are clean enough.
Negatives are that some of the front of house staff are a bit rude, though some do make more effort. Overall, by Tobago tourist service standards there's a lot worse places to stay.

My advice would be to make sure you're happy with your room as some are better than others especially in regards to the air conditioning units.
