“Disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2013

I visited Keenan's recently with family members who were visiting the area. I had told them about the lovely food and they were looking forward to it. What a disappointment, we had fish, it was terrible, overcooked to a crisp, the salad was stale & soggy. I will not be back.

We always stop at Kenyans on the way down from Dublin to Mayo. The service is good and most of the food is nice. The best food to get is for a starter the vegetable soup, the main course for the adult the sea bass if you're not a fish person a burger a salad or a toasted sandwich, from the children's menu whatever they like (not huge but no children's menus are). There are also pros and cons one pro is if you have a dog the area is super for walks, one con is the parking usually i can find a nice spot but when I'm bringing the donkey up or down its quite annoying.Pro the bathroom facilities are way better than some other restraunts bathroom facilities.Con if it is busy the seating isn't good.Pro but if it is not busy the seating is very good.Con sometimes i would have to park my car across the road and this is bad because sometimes you have to wait for a long time for all the cars and trucks to.

I have been visiting Keenans for years and this evening my family and I visited this Restaurant .I asked the waitress if one of my kids could have a ham sandwich and she refused to serve this and stated "we can only serve you a toastie " I explained I did not want it toasted but she said it was not possible .
The only reason for this is they can charge twice the price for a toastie .
And over 9 euro for a seafood chowder , come on .Take my advice folks drive an other 10 mins and eat in the percy french top spot who know how to treat their customers.

I have eaten here a few times before and it's handy when travelling from Mayo to Dublin. THe food is pub grub and was generally good but this visit was disappointing! The service was slow, the starter arrived with bits missing, the main course was cold etc etc..
The venue is well located but location means nothing when the service and food are poor and not value for money. I might try it again on my next journey out, but if its any way the same, will not feel bad about walking out.

Stopped here both coming and going from the West on a recommendation from a friend. Typical pub food on offer with quite an extensive menu. Food very well presented and tasty. Staff were extremely friendly but the reason I did not give it five stars is because the service was a little slow and given that a high percentage of clients were "en route" the service could have been a little faster.

However I would 100% recommend it as a place to stop off. Very scenic location too right on the Shannon river although it was raining while we were there so we didn't see very much.

I recently dined at Keenans with my family, when we arrived we were given a lovely seat in the garden. The food was very nice, large portions, one thing that I would say was that the fruit on top of the pavalova dessert tasted like onions, obviously the fruit had been cut with the same knife as the onions. The staff were all very nice (one in particular was a little OTT), will definitely return again.

Half way on the way to Sligo for a summer holiday we detoured off the main route. Really nice lunch in the garden at back of pub and had a really nice walk down to the lock to see some boats going through.
