I spent a week at Bluff Beach Retreat with my husband and 2 children and some friends. Since we were a large group of 12 we had the whole place for us. The big house is very comfortable with big bedrooms and bathrooms. The four of us were in the smaller house in the back and it was just fine. The place and the surroundings are really calm, you only hear the birds, and the sound of the waves breaking on the shore. Since the sea was quite rough it was reassuring for us parents to have the children in the pool. ANnd they enjoyed it a lot! Breakfast was excellent (fresh fruit and very tasty coffee, a different special every morning) on the porch of the main house and the dog Cassius under the table keeping us company ... And Ron was very helpful for EVERYTHING : from taxis, to local restaurants (not only good advice but also for the booking), to organising boat trips or taking the girls horseriding, to helping me with my lost piece of luggage ... He is very friendly, present but not invasive, and most of all willing to help you and make your stay flawless. I highly recommend his place.

Room Tip: Maybe the small cabin at the back is quieter because farther from the ocean. Our friends in the main house sometimes had some difficulties to go to sleep because of the noise of the waves but when you're on holidays you can't really complain of the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, can you ?!

We just returned to snowy Canada from an amazing week at the resort. The location is wonderful, Jungle in your back yard and the most beautiful beach imaginable in the front yard. Our morning alarm would be a family of monkeys having a conversation. Breakfast was excellent, fresh fruit grown on the property with a great cup of coffee. The days we would spend exploring the surrounding islands by water taxi, horse back riding, swimming/snorkelling walking the beach or jungle. For dinner we strolled down the beach to a wonderful restaurant (5 min walk), Top notch chefs preparing amazing dishes. Our host and Ron a fellow Canadian and his dog Cassius made us feel like family. Anything you could dream up in the realm of possibilities Ron would be on his phone making it happen. We travel every year and have loved all of our destinations. This was by far the best Vacation experience we have ever had.

We rented the main Villa for a week for the family. The place is wonderful !! the jaunt from town is $15.00 by cab or 30 mins on a quad which Ron will help you to rent for about $200.00 for the week or about $80.00 per day. We went to town a half a dozen times on various trips that Ron set up for us. All were reasonably priced and very rewarding. (try the cacao farm and snorkeling or zip lining at red frog beach) The rooms were comfortable and very clean and the staff were helpful also.
The only things that I would change are purely personal preference things like the "time window" for breakfast. (8.00 -9.30) though at the end of the day it made for a nice long day with early evenings for the most part.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone who want a nice, hot, off the beaten path vacation in a very pretty spot in this world.

Room Tip: If the sound of the crashing ocean in February is likely to bother you, avoid the main front bedroom. It's not crazy and some may find it even "lulling" It was just evident and unusual for us. The fans are enough to cool the very airy rooms.

My husband and I spent a week at the retreat in the Casita Las Palmas, a two-bedroom elevated cabin with a full kitchen, bath with excellent shower, and a porch where we spent most of our time. Except, of course, when we were eating the tasty provided breakfast or lying by the pool or watching the waves pound the beach from the main house's porch. Bocas town can be noisy, but not the Retreat. You don't even seen the other guests or staff unless you wish to. We especially liked the casita because it is hidden in the back of the property and therefore is very private and very quiet, but you have easy access to two good restaurants, the road to town and the jungle trails. This is definitely the best place to stay on Isla Colon.

Room Tip: Casita Las Palmas is quiet and private.

Ron, the owner was super helpful with the reservation, check-in, check-out, recommendations for things to do. The hotel itself is more like a personal residence in that there is a large shared kitchen. The entire place is usually rented out to a single party (as a side note, we could see this place would make a great rental for a large group), but we rented just one of the rooms and felt we had enough privacy.

Everything was very clean, comfortable and relaxing. We could hear the ocean waves crashing 100 feet away, from our room, the deck or the pool; so it makes a nice spot to just relax, read, tan, etc. A hearty buffet style breakfast was provided every morning and there were bikes and snorkel gear available to use for free.

The location is about 7 miles from the main town, Bocas, and taxis were hard to come by, especially after dark...so eating dinner required a bit of advance planning. Fortunately there is an excellent restaurant on the next property (5 minute walk), where we enjoyed the one very good meal of our 9 day Panama trip (we were not impressed with the food in Panama overall).
