“Gorgeous place, lovely staff”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

As a female traveller on my own, I stay here for business purposes about once every couple of months. The staff are just lovely (particularly Eve who always manages a smile and chat in the morning and who couldn't be more helpful), the food is delicious and the rooms are all of a high standard (even the single one). The only one slight niggle is that there can be a bit of road noise, but nothing that ear plugs won't solve if you are happy to wear them. All in all though this is a great hotel to stay in as a group, couple or on your own - the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the bar very non threatening (for a single traveller). Wifi is available downstairs but coverage is patchy upstairs.

I stayed Friday night prior to Goodwood festival of speed .... The room was fantastic and the food was first class . Lucy the Proprietor was fabulous , fantastic service , the warmest of welcomes and made us feel really special . A really wonderful stay . Great beer / great wine / Malbec ....-and splendid super fresh breakfast.
The restaurant was fairly busy , but Lucy remembered our choice and recommendation over breakfast and was so charming . Real hospitality ,highly recommended . We will be booking for next year ... A real treat ! Beautiful village / lovely garden .... Superb beautifully cooked food .

Room Tip: De Blois, a beautiful airy room with slipper bath and huge separate shower

We chose this hotel because of its location, as we were visiting some National Trust Property's
it is very clean and the staff are all very friendly , we had a evening meal which is pricey but then the food is restaurant standard, we had breakfast my husband had a cooked b-fast not much to choose if you don't have cooked so I just had toast would have liked something chopped fruit or cold meat or cheese anything which is a shame as this was the only problem

Room Tip: at the front it is very noisy because of road

This is a very nice inn, where we had an overnight stay. The accommodation is top class. The bar and restaurant prices are on the high side, but the service is very good and the inn is immaculate. Overall this is a pleasant place to stay.

Booked the Kings Head through the business on the basis of the address being main road, Winchester. However, it is actually in the small village of Hursley, about 10 mins from Winchester. A great find, and so nice to stay somewhere with character and soul. Good beers on tap, a great steak. Rooms really comfortable and well thought out, and the location was perfect for an early run this morning. Will definitely be staying again.

My husband and I have just had a two day "much needed" break and we couldn't have chosen a better place. From the moment we walked through the door we were met with smiling and helpful staff who couldn't do enough for us. The room (2) was lovely, bed really comfortable, a fabulous bathroom and all spotlessly clean. The food was exceptional, our evening meal was not only cooked really well but presented beautifully, and the breakfast was lovely, the porridge and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs are to be recommended. We were lucky enough to have glorious weather and so enjoyed our drinks sitting in the lovely "secret" garden or in the garden at the front of the hotel, watching the world go by . The location was perfect, just ten minutes from Winchester. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would love to return again sometime in the future.

Room Tip: there is quite a busy road running through the village so if you find sleeping or noise a problem th...

Great location, lovely bar area and elegant dining room. The bar service was somewhere between bored and condescending (despite bar being almost empty), service in the dining room was good, friendly and informed, but the meal was variable and when the person from the bar started serving in the dining room... Well, see above! Brilliant starter, adequate main course, so so vegetables. Not sure if the place has changed hands as I remember it as rather more focused than this.
