Just come back from a great week’s holiday at the Casa Sola. We will definitely return to this property situated in the glorious Tech valley, an area, previously unknown to us, of beautiful wooded hills and towering peaks.
We thought the house was spacious and extremely well equipped with modern appliances and comfy furniture and bedding.
Even in late September we were blessed with long days of crystal clear light and unbroken hot sunshine – making it possible for us to make use of the outdoor pools each day. The house made a good base from which to visit Ceret, Collioure on the Mediterranean coast, the Northern Spanish resorts as well as (by means of the local bus heavily subsidised to a fare of just €1 each way!) the Departmental capital, Perpignan. For those who love motoring, the deserted roads through the mountains to Spain are an exhilarating must, combining spectacular scenery, twists and turns and excellent, well maintained surfaces.
We combined self-catering in the well equipped kitchen with eating out in the local restaurants which we found served high quality food at reasonable prices.
This was simply the most awesome place to spend a holiday, whether to lounge around the pool (or two) or as a base to enjoy some stunning locations.
The property was amazing, beautifully fitted out, full of character, balconies everywhere to take in the breathtaking views across the mountains. We were one of owners John and Wendy's first guests. They couldn't do enough to help make our stay just perfect. We occupied the top two self contained levels which had everything we could need. The gite is very spacious with five bedrooms sleeping nine people. The garden stretches high into the hills, rarely have we come by such a picturesque, jaw-dropping location. We arrived from Perpignan airport to our holiday home in 45 mins and though it is in a most serene and quiet spot above the valley, we were just two minutes drive from the town and shops ....or a 20 minute walk. You will need a hire car to get around to enjoy the region. We loved nearby Ceret, tripped to Spain to visit Figeures and the elegant seaside town of Roses - our return journey from Roses took 75 minutes. The resort of Argeles is also just 45 mins away while just. along the coast we discovered the quaint village of Collioure with its tiny alleys and streets. The stunning Les Gorges de la Fou is a must visit - just two miles down the road. It was so hard to drag ourselves away from our gorgeous base which had everything we needed from BBQ to two swim pools and an abundance of peace and tranquility. The region is sensational and the climate ideal - hot days and warm sitting-out nights in June. We weren't sure what we would get when we booked our holiday but expectations were far surpassed - we fell in love with casa sola from day one and will be back.
