Hotel was quoting a price of $186, then we showed them a website price of 117$ (+taxes) and we told them that we will book from the web site ... so they started creating lot of fuss.. initially they mentioned you give us flat $150 without worrying about taxes.. we agreed on that .. but they started reversing on that by forcing us to take an upgraded room which was 175$ as per them... after lot of haggling we agreed to that too as we were tired through the day and wanting to crash in the room.. but they wasted atleast 1 hr without coming to any conclusion .. apparently they were trying to think of more means to extract more money somehow ... they kept discussing in local language for long time and then called their manager... Finally they told us we are not responsible for your driver .. there is no driver accommodation .. and then the driver mentioned that he will sleep inside the car in that case...
But then they started saying that he cannot sleep in the car inside the hotel premises too.. we asked where will he go then (as this hotel was located quite remotely and too far from the city).... at this point we started getting irritated with this fuss and started moving out to look for a different hotel..

At this the staff person Abey started abusing badly and also started stepping in my personal space... At this point I told him to step away from me and I mentioned that I do not want to talk to him at all .. and would talk to other staff members.. He comments saying "I am supposed to look after customers hence you have to talk to me only" and made remarks like "go to our washroom and see your angry face in the mirror" etc ..

They lost the customers at a point where I had accepted all their fussy terms and conditions .. also we figured that only 4 out of 50 rooms were occupied.. this explains how repulsive they are towards customers....

I am the Managing Director of the Theva Residency Boutique Hotel. First we got a call from you requiring for a room at Theva. My manager informed you very politely that we do have rooms and if you wish you can come to our hotel to stay the night. Rates were not asked or discussed at this point. Then you proceeded to come here with my manager continuously assisting you by giving directions to hotel. On arrival as we do with any guests, we offered a complimentary welcome drink and gave you the opportunity to sit at the lobby while we discuss the room arrangement. You has not booked a room and my manager showed all the available rooms for you to decide whichever one you like. You then decided on a deluxe room which is room number 12 but as these rooms are ONLY for two persons, my manager kindly informed you that we cannot accommodate 3 people in a deluxe room. In fact we were nice enough to offer a FREE upgrade to a Superior room which can accommodate for 3 people. But you were adamant and rude to them and insisted that you are given this room even with a mattress on the floor!! This is a boutique hotel which caters to high end clients and putting mattress on the floors as per a guest house would not be our way of doing business! You continued to argue even after we have made it VERY clear that it is not possible. You were also a walk in client and rates for that type of client is very different to offers that take place on line via agoda and other booking engines. But you argued for YOUR rate and expected us to give the rate you wanted for three people in a room which could NOT accommodate that many!!! It was very frustrating to my managers who for five years have successfully run the hotel and won awards for their service excellence. In fact, Abey has been one of my shining employees who have been incredible with the guests and many recommendations for his service have been given to me. Travelers are aware hotels do not let three adults share one bed and pay what they want!! We have rates set by the hotel and if you are not satisfied by it, then you should have chosen a hotel that was cheap and would accommodate a mattress on the floor! After being this kind and patient by offering a much lower rate and free upgrade in a room which we can put an extra bed, you still were arguing and being rude! We do not have drivers accommodation as it is the case in MANY boutique villas all over the world and sri lanka! We do not expect drivers to park the car and sleep as we protect out clients and their privacy. We were kind enough to offer a nearby place where he could have stayed for a special rate. Once again you got angry and was shouting at my manager. You then also requested that if you were to take that guest house, that Theva raises a invoice from our system (which would be unethical and forgery) for the driver's stay form another hotel!! If you did not like our policies, then you should have left to go to a bigger hotel which could have accommodated that. You were aware of our policies as we have the hotel on a website. You kept on asking our management to do things that were against any boutique hotel policy and standards. Obviously you are not happy with boutique hotel policies and procedures and not seem to understand the concept of triple rooms. We have been operating for five years successfully winning many awards and our main reason for that being the staff. Customer who read trip advisory will now understand the exact story of what took place and our management and hotel procedure which comply with high standard of hotels all over the world and in sri lanka.

A small hotel with attentive staff. We stayed in suite no.1 which has fantastic views; but this place is a curate's egg in being good in parts. e.g. It was surprising to find a high end boutique hotel that didn't cater for modern technology. Although there was free wifi, there was only one electric plug and that was for the kettle, so phones, tablets and camera recharging was very difficult.
The bathroom had a lovely big bath but no towel rails at all, for wet towels. Also, the windows into the bathroom were not secure, so the noise from the terrace below was sometimes audible.
The television was in the bedroom even though the sitting area attached to the suite was really spacious.
On the other hand the food was good and the staff were super! The pool looked fabulous but we were there for the festival so didn't have time to enjoy a hillside swim -which was sad as it must be a lovely experience!

We were lucky to stay at this devine hotel. Booked this place on the advise of Trip Advisor, and WAS NOT disappointed. The hotel is stunning, rooms devine, modern, clean, funky artefacts, staff so very accommodating, Russell, Sudijth, and all the staff were so helpful, Sri Lankan food so authentic, breakfast awesome, view amazing, Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Kandy. Made our holiday. Taking amazing memories back with us of this Hotel.

Room Tip: We were very lucky to have been upgraded to Room 12, with its own verandah. Lovely room

I think you would find it extremely difficult to find a better hotel in the kandy area. Staff are amazing. Rooms are very well appointed. Food is consistently five star. Hanging out of an infinity pool clinging to the side of a mountain..Once in a lifetime? Attention to detail - superb. Sense of humour of staff- amazingly European. Value for money unbelievable. Lie by the pool with cocktails by a silver award winning cocktail waiter while the eagles lazily circle overhead.

Room Tip: All rooms are cool..... but seemingly there is one with a Jacuzzi.... If we are lucky enough to come back -booking that one :) also the train journey from kandy to ella is one of the most spectacular in the world

The hotel has a nice view, but it is quite small with small communal areas. Noise carried into the room from outside made it a bit difficult to have quite sleeping (we stayed in the room 4). We had a lovely lunch and the food was very delicious, but the selection was not as good for dinner. The staff was very helpful and friendly so overall our stay was nice.
