“Charming Place nested in the heart of the Loire Valley”
Reviewed 15 August 2012

I have an interesting story to tell ... my wife and I had just come into CDG after a long overnight flight from the United States and were driving to a wedding in the town on Detilly, not very far from La Giraudiere. After driving around lost for over an hour we ended up at La Giraudiere. It was the dinner hour and there were many diners seated in the courtyard which had been laid out in perfect french country fashion. The owner came out to greet us and assuming that we had come for dinner began to direct us to a table. We speak *no* French but fortunately the owner spoke excellent English. We explained our predicament and described the place we needed to go to for the wedding. He knew exactly where it was. Despite the busy dinner hour, he insisted that he drive in his car to our destination so that we could follow him. When we protested that we would be fine with some detailed written directions, he insisted that it would be impossible for us to navigate "the labrinthe" as he put it! So he told one of his staff to take over and pulled out his car from the garage and off he went with us in close chase through the labrinthe! Five minutes later we were at the wedding and, yes, it was a labrinthe.

Now in case you are wondering about food ... we had a quick look at some of the dishes that were being served (it was in the open courtyard after all, in clear view of all) and it all looked delicious and beautiful ... almost like a work of art, just what you would expect in France. The setting of the place is charming and delightful. And with an owner like the one we encountered, how can the food and service not be good ? Give them a try !

A countryside location away from the cities of Touraine.
We stayed 2 nights at the Manoir de la Giraudière and very much enjoyed the friendly, helpful & welcoming service, very comfy, clean and charming rooms, but with all the modern comfort. And tasty breakfast.
This perfectly restaured manor houses a great hotel surrounded by a beautiful garden and there is such a tranquility and harmony in the air, what you hardly find elsewhere.
Just ride free around the lovely and peaceful grounds, biking around the vineyards, along pretty little roads with gorgeous sunshine.
The Manoir has a friendly cat "Isis" who purrs and welcome you...
Definitely go to this divine hotel, this is a place to relax, unwind, and thoroughly enjoy.

Room Tip: The best way, (if the hotel is not fully booked) would probably to asked the reception for a show ar...

Last came here 20 + years ago and little seems to have changed. It still needs a makeover outside and needs plenty of TLC at the rear. We were lucky to have the 2 adjacent rooms with a private terrace again. Ideal for self catering. The dinner and breakfast in the restaurant was not overwhelming. Average food and service in a dark atmosphere. In nearby Chinon there is plenty to do and places to eat. Visit the Caves and enjoy the Chinon red - a much underated wine.

Room Tip: If you're travelling with friends, try for 21 and 22 with the terrace for your own private space

Made very welcome despite having only a few words of French. Staff all tried to communicate with good humour. The receptionist even made chicken noises to try and translate the menu for us! Lovely restaurant but not open every night so had to eat in Chinon for three nights out of five - about 6 klm away and very good choice of restaurants.

The room was huge with a lovely big table & chairs and there was a separate bathroom and toilet. Ground floor room was a welcome change from struggling with stairs. Everything was spotless and very tastefully done and it was a really lovely and most convenient place from which to explore the beautiful Loire Valley without having to travel very long distances each day.

We stayed a week at La Giraudiere in July. We rented a car to get around. It is a wonderful manor house in a patch of woods, pool, walking trails, close to too many castles to name. We opted for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was fresh, fruit, bread, jam from a local convent and of course wonderful coffee. Dinner was always wonderful, mostly served outdoors with aperatifs first, main course, salad, cheese, and dessert. No choice for the main course but always a culinary treat.
We spent a day at Pui du Fou. A historical fair with people dressed in costumes from middle ages through 19th century. Angers castle is beautiful and only 30 minutes away.
The hosts were wonderful; english speaking and full of suggestions. Excellent pricing as well.
I highly recommend this site. Well worth finding it and very much to see in the area.

A really good location if you are sightseeing or cycling around the Loire. The hotel has seen better days and is a bit odd architecturally. We booked a twin room and were put in a 'mini apartment' at the top of the building with a door frame from a time when people did not grow as tall as they do today, but that was not a problem. The room or rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable ... although we did not try all of them! Although the menu choice was limited (it changes on a daily basis), we had a very pleasant meal with good local wine at a reasonable cost. All the staff were charming and there was a nice atmosphere about the hotel.

I went for an early pre breakfast walk around the local vineyards as the sun was rising ... all very enjoyable.

Breakfast was good with plenty of it

The only bad point was that WIFI was temporarily out of action ... this wasn't a problem for us for one night but would have been if we had been staying longer.
