“Be Live Grand Palace de Muro”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2012

The Grand Palace de Muro describes itself as a 5 star hotel but in my view it falls woefully short in many respects.

The beach facing rooms are all suites with twin beds, most other rooms are described as partial sea views but you have to lean over the balcony to see the sea.

I resent paying for Wi-Fi in 5 star hotels but here they not only charge €5 per day for that service but also charge €3 per day to use the room safe (a first in my experience). It will cost you €10 per day to rent two sunbeds and a sun shade on the beach.

Of the 32 TV channels only Sky news is in English, there are no DVD players or tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

The hotel appeared under staffed with only one waiter serving all guests in the gastro restaurant….I will not be returning.

Room Tip: Only the beach facing suites have a proper sea view

Dear PLondon979,
First of all we would like to thank you for the time you spent writing your review on tripadvisor.
We truly apologize for not being able to reach your expectations. Our final target as hoteliers is the happiness of our guests, so we are sorry that we couldn’t make it with you.
As I explained to you at the Front Desk after your check in, you shouldn’t expect the same views at a “Suite with Frontal Sea View” and at a “Double Room with Parcial Sea View”.
We think the name itself says the difference. Anyway, as we talked that day, we were fully booked at the moment, and couldn’t offer you a “Suite with Frontal Sea View even paying the difference (around 250€ per day).
You received what you booked, we apologize for not being the room you expected.
WIFI and Safe are extra services that not everybody uses, that’s why they are not included at the room’s price.
The sun beds at the beach, as detailed at the Info in the rooms, do not belong to the Hotel as in the 95% of the Hotels on the island. Unfortunately there are just a few hotels who own their own beach sun beds and umbrellas, and those are hotels who operate in small private beaches since more than 30-40 years.
About the English channels, we can just say that we do have many nationalities at the Palace, and unfortunately we cannot have all the tv channels you have at your country.
Anyway we will receive some more British channels in the next months, as we subscribed to some of them.
I am sorry again for not helping you to enjoy your holidays.

Best regards,

We have stayed in many 5star Hotels around the world. As you enter the grand glass fronted
entrance of the hotel, we noticed it was very sparse compaired to there web page as all large plants have died and had not been replaced. The hotel looks like a shopping mall without plants. Our suite was very expensive for what it was. Things you pay for are, key for safe & Internet. UK chanels on TV were very limited. You only get six coat hangers and they could not provide any more. You cannot sunbath on the patio of suite as the overhang of the roof is to low. In my opinion the room needs an upgrade.
The maid kept the room very clean and the beds were very comportable.
If you decide to sunbath on the beach in front of the hotel, you have to pay 10euro for two beds and a shade. On the good side the hotel was clean and staff very attentive.Maybe a 5star for Mallorca but a 4star at best compared to other 5star hotels we have stayed elsewhere.

Dear Gail3333,

First of all we would like to thank you for the time you spent writing your review on tripadvisor.
We are focused to keep improving our facilities and services, so we consider seriously all the comments written here.
About the plants, they didn’t die, we just thought they would look nicer located everywhere, and making the shocking Reception Hall clearer.
WIFI and Safe are extra services that not everybody uses, that’s why they are not included at the room’s price.
About the English channels, we can just say that we do have many nationalities at the Palace, and unfortunately we cannot have all the tv channels you have at your country.
Anyway we will receive some more British channels in the next months, as we subscribed to some of them.
Thanks for the compliments about our staff, we know that they are the best of the Palace de Muro.
We truly apologize for not being what you expected, but we keep working hard to be a better place to spend your holidays and to become one of the best 5* Holiday Hotels at Mallorca.

I stayed here for 3 nights in May 2012, one of the most luxurious hotels I have stayed in! On check in we were offered a welcome drink of choice & enjoyed a wonderful glass of Champagne. We were shown to our room (3210) We had a balcony with a pleasant view of the hotel courtyard. The rooms are separated into 4 blocks (we were block 3) and they are all connected underneath the ground! The Spa, indoor pool, restaurant and access to the outdoor pool were on this lower level.
We used the outdoor pool for two of our days there, unfortunately the weather wasn't so good on the second day but we made use of the indoor pool and Jacuzzi which were also very good. The hotel is located right on the beach so you could swim there as well in the warmer seasons (the water was very chilly in May!).
The hotel is located only a short walk from the centre of Playa De Muro where there is a good selection of bars & restaurants. We went to 'Ole' restaurant which was really good & had some niced, fresh and quite traditional Spanish dishes and Grand Cafe 1919 for cocktails one night (good outdoor seating with hammock seats & even blankets to keep you warm!). We had dinner one night at the hotel, it was great value for money (only 20 euros per person excluding drinks) and considering this was a buffet it much cheaper than a 3 course meal outside of the hotel, you didn't even need to pre-book. The breakfast at the hotel is excellent (particularly the Orange juice! Yum!) There was even the option of Champagne with your breakfast. At all the meals there was a salad bar, large selection of fruit, bread, cake and then live cooking stations offering things like omlettes at lunch and fillet steaks cooked to order in the evening. There is a supermarket just outside the hotel where you can get all your shopping, bottles of water and souvenier Herbes de Mallorca liquer!
On the overcast day we got a bus into Alcudia town - good for souvenier shopping and a marina to look around. The bus was 2 Euros each way per person, and stops just down the road.
On our final day our flight wasn't until the evening so we had to leave the room at 12 but the hotel have courtesy rooms which they let you use, these have shower and toilet facilities in them.
I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing, luxurious break!

This hotel is located far from Palma de Mallorca. It has a great beach (that I understand will be cleaned before the summer season starts) and good facilities.
The hotel rooms are spacious and well appointed and some of the rooms have been renovated recently.
The buffet restaurant offers many dishes that vary from day to day. The highlight of the buffet is certainly Spanish food with emphasis on fish and seafood though other dishes are also available. The Paellas were freshly made and excellent. Fresh fish was cooked everyday and also was of very good quality, however this menu may not be what everyone wants, particularly for those of central and northern Europe and of the Americas that would wish to find their own specialties at the restaurant. Pizza and spaghetti, for instance, are also available but the Italians would hardly find them up to their standards.
In summary, a very nice hotel suitable for fish and seafood lovers.

Stayed with family in the hotel during off season period. We picked it up because of great deal they offered via booking.com. Overall great location, very nice and spacious family room, extremely friendly personel and good facilities. Also a very nice beach with a shallow water perfect for kids.

The only disappointment was quality of food. Definitely not 5 stars. Buffet restaurant offered wide menu but nothing reallly perticularly testy. Bar restaurant menu was not fresh.

I organised a lot of meetings in a lot of countries and this was by far the best venue we ever been to. The support from the hotel staff was excellent. Both before the event (the organisation of it all requires a lot of communication with the hotel) as during our stay. As Javier (PR of the hotel) said beforehand: "Everything is possible at the palace", and he was right. All my colleagues (a group of 35 people) were very positive about the event: the location, the hotel, the food, the massages, the rooms and the meeting room. And I know from experience that it is pretty difficult to have 35 happy and positive participants.
As the organiser, I am usually under lots of stress during these events. While everybody 'relaxes' in the meetingroom, I am running around to make sure everything gets done as planned. But this time I could also relax. Javier was at the hotel 24/7 (or so it seemed) and whenever I asked for him, he was there within 30 seconds. Ofcourse all our scheduled coffee breaks and lunches had to be delayed by 10 minutes to 1,5 hour and this was never a problem. I even was able to go out for shopping on one of the afternoons, while my colleagues were having the meeting. This never happened before.

If you are looking for a beautiful 5 star hotel at a location where many airlines fly to from all over Europe, near the beach, with restaurant (breakfast, lunch, dinner), spa and meeting room facilities (beamer, flipovers, coffee breaks, etc), I can surely recommend you 'The Palace'. But I also hope I will be able to visit them some day with my husband and daughter, as I am sure they will love it too. And I heard many of my colleagues say that they would like to go here again with their families. Our company will hopefully have another meeting here again in May.
