“Amapola Hotel, Playa De Muro”
Reviewed 5 February 2009

We stayed at this hotel from 16th September to 23rd September 2008, one of the main reasons for booking this hotel was it said evening and children's entertainment was provided and as our little girl was 3 we thought this would be ideal, however, although kids discos were scheduled none of them actually happened..... which was very disappointing and the adult entertainment wasn't good. The hotel itself was lovely and the staff were friendly... on arrival at the hotel (approx 10pm) the reception guy showed us into the dining room where food, wine and beer had been put aside as we had missed dinner.  Personally we would not stay at this hotel again as it is primarily an all inclusive hotel for german people and does not cater well for families. Also, we booked this hotel through flyglobespan and is states that this hotel is based in Alcudia which it isn't.... this hotel is in a quieter part called Playa De Muro and is approx 10 mins taxi ride away from the main town of Alcudia.   The beach in Playa De Muro is lovely and there were nice pubs and restaurants nearby.

Hotel situated in a nice location overlooking a small lake, if ur lucky enough to get a room overlooking the lake the views are magnificent. Just over five minute walk to the beach and shops. The beach can be very busy, loungers costing anything upto 10euros for the day. Shops consist of overpriced Spar shops, souvineir shops and car rentals. Reccommend shopping around before buying anything as prices vary dramatically from shop to shop. Reccommend walking an extra 10mins along the Fotages towards Porto Alcudia where you will find a supermarket for the locals where everything is half the price. Resterantes consist of steak and seafood houses, pizza places and burger kings. Just round the corner from the hotel is a pony ride for the kids and apparantly a maze, which we have yet to find.

The hotel itself was very clean with good outdoor facilities, a nice clean pool with tennis and mini golf.

The food was average, breakfast consists of a choice of either a cooked breakfast or the typical contanental breakfast. Dinner varies throughtout the week with lots to choose from at the buffet. I would defineately not reccommend going half board as you may have trouble getting a drink with your meal as these have to be payed for and all the waiters are rushed off the feet catering for the all inclusive Germans. A word of warning - if you would like any food to be left i suggest getting to the dining room 5 minutes early beacause there is alot of pushing and shoving from the germans. We also felt abit uncomfortable helping ourselves to the buffet as we were only staying on a half board basis and the waiters tend to watch what you are doing most of the time.

Entertainment was a bit cheesy and tacky but very good at entertaining kids. Most of the entertainment is catered for Germans being their biggest source of income.

This was actually my first visit abroud and expected there to be alot more brits but in actual fact, there was only 2 english families in our hotel, including us, as they catered mostly for germans the hotel wasn't really interested in the brits making us feel like second class guests especially as we were only on a half board basis and the germans were all inclusive. Even the satalite tv channels were all german.

If you are stayin here i would advise against using the hotel's reccomended excursions as they are catered for germans and are slightly more expensive. I would reccommend No-frills excursions, an all english speaking tour bus which provides a wide veriety of trips to suit everyone. The staff is very friendly and make you feel at home. During our visit we went on 3 of their excursions and only wish we had gone on more to get us away from the hotel. I feel that no-frills had saved what would be a very boring holiday whilst staying at the amapola.

Alot of the guests are greedy, they push and shove, are loud and think the own the place. Which made us feel very uncomfortable and cheesed off. If you do stay at this hotel, u must go all inclusive!

I would reccomend that you stay in either Alcudia as playa de muro is abit out of the way and there is more to do there.

Arrived at the hotel at 11.50pm to find there was no room for us and had to spend the first night in another hotel approx 200metres away and couldn't get into our room until the following afternoon, so we lost a day of our holiday. As a result got upgraded to all inclusive, apparently this is a regular occurance here. The hotel was very clean and well looked after, almost all other guests were Germans and the food is mostly catering for them.Wouldn't recommend this hotel for the British as you feel out of place.

Stayed at the Amapola in July 2007 and had a really good time. Hotel was very clean, rooms very nicely furnished and close to beach and amenities, yet far enough back to be nice and quiet at night. Balcony was a good size (considering I had a single room) and had nice view overlooking undeveloped countryside. Loads of shops and restaurants round about. Cleaning without fault, towels changed as required, daily if you wanted. Food in the hotel was fine, wide selection of main courses and deserts in the evening. Think the hotel is German - loads of Germans there and severlal Scots (this hotel is one used by flyglobespan), seemed to be very few English guests. Staff always very pleasant and fluent in English. Nice pool but quite busy. Not sure what the entertainment was like as did not hang about at night to see. All in all a very nice hotel which I would recommend. Note - Muro is about 40 minutes walk out of Alcudia, and is a resort in itself.

We stayed at the Grupotel Amapola from 8 - 15 July 2006 and had an excellent time. The hotel has alot of German guests but this did not put us off. The staff were very accomodating and we checked in around 1.30am due to getting lost but this was not a problem for the staff. The room was lovely, small but clean and everything seemed new. We were on a half board basis and the food was lovely. A lot to choose from.

The pool was ok but not many sunloungers left and was very noisy during the day, we chose to hire a car and tour about as we had never been to majorca before. The hotel was in an excellent location within walking distance to the shops, bars and restaurants of playa de muro and about 10 mins walk to the beach.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to anyone

We booked a last minute deal to the amapola and after reading some of the negative comments i was slightly concerned. Upon arrival we were greeted by a pleasant rep at a clean and well presented hotel. We were checked in quickly and directed to our room. The room was clean and large enough for the two of us, overlooking the lake. Although you could hear the entertainment from other hotels when on the balcony it was not a problem and did not disrupt our sleep.
The food was very good and staff were efficient. There were not many english people but this was not a concern. I would say that this hotel is more suited to couples or older groups but if you were to take children there is a childs pool a variety of food and you are not far from amenities, you can also use the Sun village facilities which is more child orientated. As a last minute deal i found this hotel ticked all the boxes for a well priced and good standard holiday accommodation.
