5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 October 2013

We had a lovely week at this hotel from 18th to 25th October 2013. The hotel backs straight onto a beautiful beach affording us not only the sea to swim in but also three further outdoor pools and an indoor pool to choose. All of the staff worked extremely hard and did so with a smile and a pleasant hello at all times. The catering staff never stood still and the service staff ensured that the bedroom etc was kept extremely clean at all times. The reception staff were also extremely helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and would book an Iberostar hotel again in the future.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

We travelled to the Iberostar Playa de Muro Hotel on the 21/09/13 for a 14 night All Inclusive holiday, after reading the reviews I was a bit reluctant to go.

We arrived in the evening and was met by a Thomas Cook Rep. He informed us that our hotel did not have a rep however, he gave us all a piece of paper on how to contact them if we required them. And also told us about the hotels that that go to etc.

On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by cheerful and very helpful receptionist who explained the layout of the hotel. We had requested a Low Floor as my mother was walking difficulties and the hotel had booked both rooms adjacent to one another and on the ground floor. Both rooms were in a quiet position, so we had no disturbance. She advised us that we could hire pool towels for 10 Euros Each with 5 Euros deposit and if we wanted to hire the safe which was in our room it would cost 16.90 Euros per week plus 5 Euros deposit. I know that 33.80 Euros is a lot of money but you can’t put a price on if you lost your passport of holiday money, it gave us peace of mind.

My Double room was standard, but exceptionally clean and tidy. Not 4*. The housekeeper left a very small shampoo/ conditioner, makeup wip, hand wipe, shower hat and 3 cotton buds. There was a box of tissues, 3 toilet rolls, and one dispenser on the wall for shower wash. Your also given 2 white towels and 2 hand towels plus 2 glasses.

The bedroom had laminated flooring, 1 bedside cabinet on each side and a dressing table. The room had a fridge and we received a bottle of water most days from the housekeeper. The bed was comfortable it had long pillows which were very comfy. The housekeepers came to make my room up every day. The view from my balcony was overlooking the tennis court and I had a sea view which was nice, the balcony had white plastic table and chairs which were discoloured from the weather/sea air and there was a small clothes airer.

The TV did only have 2/3 English channels, the rest being Spanish, German, Russian etc. But who goes away to watch the telly?

Breakfast/Lunch and Dinner was excellent ! Yes there were the same foods there ie: Bread/Salad/Vegetables/Fruit/ ice-cream/Rice and Pasta Salads but the food that was served was different every day and there was something for everyone, for children, teenagers, adults, vegetarian, vegan, diabetic etc. I must admit that the bacon was not English bacon it was very streaky and in oil but the majority of guests were German, Dutch, Scandavian, Russian and Polish. The chefs put great effort into making delicious courses from pizza, lasagne, garlic bread, onion rings, paella, risotto, mushroom rice, chicken casserole, beef stew, fish ie swordfish, kippers, sole, prawns, tuna, scallops, calamari, spaghetti bolognese, cannelloni, pork chops, chicken breasts, chicken drumsticks, hot pasta, soup but hot and cold, olives, meats- ham, pork, tuna, chicken, turkey.
Fresh Fruit- grapes, pineapple, apples, bananas, plum, peaches, a wide selection of cheese and crackers, fresh bread, crusty rolls, freshly made pate, hummous, spreads.
Individual Desserts – chocolate cake, lemon cake, strawberry sponge, walnut cake, caramel desserts and jellies, swiss roll, fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, fromage frais, rice pudding, natural yoghurts, cream, dried fruit, coconut, nuts, dates, figs , fruit crumble, peach tart, egg custard, strawberry crepes and peach crepes and selection of ice-cream too. There apple strudel was so delicious made with choix pastry fresh fruit, dried fruit, and spicies.
Some days they had a themed dinner eg: Italian, Spanish, Chinese. One evening they made a massive chocolate pavlova and also had milk chocolate, white chocolate fountains and they had made a very impressive display of chopped fruit and had strawberries on sticks.
Salad- Lettece, tomato, onions, beetroot, carrot, sweetcorn, spinach. Cold pasta and rice dishes with various dips and vinegarettes and dressings. I am sure I have not included everything but it is just to give you an idea what they had on offer. Some of the dishes eg lasagne were warm not as hot as we would have in England, however we did not mind this as the weather was 27-30 degrees each day and eating a hot meal would not be ideal. The waiters in the restaurant were always friendly, polite and nothing was too much trouble. Because we were All Inclusive we had Coco-cola, Pepsi Max, Sprite, Fanta and Limon Fanta, Water, plus also red and white wine, beer, spring water, apple juice, pineapple juice and orange juice, tea, coffee unlimited.

Pool – There were 2 pools on site, ideal for young children because there was a shallow end which had sloping steps and the other end of the pool was quite deep but not very long. However, if you are a serious swimmer the hotel has a great Indoor Pool which is really ideal if you like to doing lengths. Also it has a large Jacuzzi with jets, sauna, steam room and hot and cold plunge pool. When we used the facilities there was a lifeguard present, they also have a lifeguard around the main pool and there are lifeguards on the beach.

The sun loungers around the pool were plentiful because we went in low season and we were able to obtain lounger cushions to lay on, yes they were a little bit tatty but what do you expect when there was been wet bodies lying on them.

Alcudia beach is stunning. Ideal for the whole family. Golden sand and crystal clear water. If you wanted to spend your day down the beach 2 sun loungers + Umbrella cost was 10.65 Euros per day, and if you just wanted 1 sun lounger and Umbrella in the 2nd row from the sea it was 7.45 Euros per day but in the front row it was 10.65 Euros. The only thing that I didn’t like was the Thai ladies asking if we required a massage and the Africian men asking if we wanted to buy watches, sunglasses, handbags etc. But as soon as you say “no” they go on their merry way.

The Entertainment Team were fantastic !!!!!!!!! Thank you Samuel, Adama, Katy, Ellie, Ela, Andrea, Carlos and Jan. You made our holiday great! The hotel had activities running throughout the day not just for adults but for children too, the team was on the go 24/7 and they truly do a superb job : )

When our holiday come to an end we all agreed what a great holiday we had and we all said that we would come back again even though we were the only English staying at the hotel and we said we would recommend this holiday to friends. Even though we didn’t have a Thomas Cook rep, and it’s a Thomas Cook holiday we still could of if we had wanted to, go on trips because we could of booked them through the German Thomas Cook Rep because she spoke very good English.

However we just wanted a 14 day Chill Holiday with 4* facilities and that is what we got, the hotel gets full marks from us !!!

Thank you Iberostar Playa Del Muro Hotel : )

I would give the hotel good marks for staff friendliness, cleanliness and beachfront location. But there are several negatives. For adults, the outdoor pools are poor with lots of steps and shallows so you can't have a good swim. The indoor pool is good, but can be full of kids repeatedly jumping in (unchecked by the attendant). The food is not bad, but a number of us in the group ended up with dodgy tums - may not have been the hotel but you wonder. Rooms are very basic and the general feel is very "warehouse". If you are planning to use the conference room as the advertised ballroom - don't. It's too small and not a good floor. Overall, OK but no better. I expected something more for the price.

Dear Guest,

Firstly we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your personal impressions on your recent stay at our IBEROSTAR Playa de Muro hotel. It is only through feedback such as yours that we are able to maintain and indeed, where necessary, improve upon the service that we provide to our valued guests.

We are truly sorry to read that you experienced stomach issues during your vacation; we wish we knew about this at the time in order to assist you and contact the closest medical center for a checkup. You may know that a variety of causes could be associated with this incident, such as a change in your diet or the water consumption. IBEROSTAR follows strict sanitary policies and our hotels are HACCP certified on food preparation, manipulation and presentation; under no circumstances would we put our clients’ health at risk by serving food in bad conditions.

We took good note of your comment related to the conference room however we would like to point out that nowhere on our brochure and website we do advertise a disco in our hotel; we used one of our conference rooms in August for a special event but we do not have a disco onsite, however there are many options nearby.

We take the opportunity to suggest that for any upcoming holiday planning with us, you get in contact with our call center where we can offer you a personalized booking guidance and give you all the relevant information for you to choose the hotel type and services that best fit your holiday needs and wishes bearing in mind that we also have different options of adults only hotels.

On the other hand, we thank you for your kind words towards our staff, their kindness and helpfulness being our hotel's main strength we will definitely congratulate them all on your behalf for their contribution to your wellbeing whilst staying among us.

We are glad to read that you could appreciate the cleanliness of our installations as we strive to give total confidence in this area and we thank you for your highlight on the location of our hotel, right on the seafront and with a direct access to the beautiful Playa de Muro with its white sand and turquoise water.

Once again, thank you for your visit, we hope that you had a pleasant journey back home and to have the pleasure of welcoming you again in our IBEROSTAR hotels in the most beautiful destinations worldwide.

just spent 9 days at iberostar playa de muro MAJORCA-holidayed there previously approx. 10 years ago-before this visit( September 19-28) read some very poor reviews but decided to go anyway.
Glad we did for we had a great time the hotel accommodation was very good the food was excellent - always something for everyone- the entertainment was great, the staff were friendly and, if there were minor problems, these were quickly resolved without fuss.
the position of the hotel i.e. next to the beach gives you the best of both worlds -sea or pool
would I recommend ? Yes I would-Will I return there ? Yes I will

Going on holiday with our son, daughter in law and 3 year old grandchild required a hotel with good sized rooms, access to a sandy beach, a short flight time and suitable food. The Playa de Muro met all of these. The beach had good sand, ideal for sandcastles and gently shelving so kids could paddle. The beach was cleaned each day so there was little rubbish around. The hotel had two pools suitable for children. We went mid September so only smaller children were there so they could play happily. There was a kids club but the toddler one was closed at a time when there were only little ones there. There was a childrens play area fenced off and gated but not supervised. We were all inclusive and the food selection was excellent. The drinks were known brands and wine at dinner was bottled though the better ones meant paying a supplement. Other drinks were recognised brands not local stuff you get on many all inclusive holidays. Overall a very good week's holiday.
The only two drawbacks for me were not hotel issues. The first was the poor support from Thomas Cook (we booked the whole package through them). On arrival at Palma airport we were sent out to a waiting coach where all other passengers were given a welcome pack. When the agent got to us she said she had nothing for us and that was it! We were the only ones on the coach going to that hotel. We didn't know if our bookings had gone astray or what. Luckily the hotel were expecting us but there was no Thomas Cook rep at the hotel at any time. The hotel reception found out the times of the return pick up so at least we were spared the usual sales pitch.
The second issue is the vendors on the beach. We were constantly pestered by people selling cheap watches, sunglasses, handbags, massages etc. They patrolled up and down the beach so in a day we would dozens of approaches. In the main they could be got rid of with a shake of the head though on one occasion one got aggressive and was quite threatening. Surely there is something that can be done to get rid of them off the beaches. As this issue is not restricted to this resort perhaps this could be a Tripadvisors campaign?

Room Tip: Many rooms have pool and partial sea views. The ones that do not face the busy road. If you choose a...

This was not a cheap holiday (£1,900 for one week for two people, off season) so I was rather expecting a little more - what? Cannot pinpoint it exactly, but the holiday was not quite up to what I was hoping for. For a start there is no Thomas Cook Rep on site at all, you are given a piece of paper on the coach stating how to contact by phone or e mail if anything needed, even to finding out about collection time for flight home, which cannot be done until 24 hours before due day. This proved difficult - lines permanently engaged, so in the end asked reception staff to do it for us. Good job we did not want to go on any trips! No idea how that could be arranged.
Not all the hotel and its facilities are for the All Inclusive (Beach bar - drinks 'free' but food to be paid for), top brands of brandy etc are available, but extra to be paid, so mind you do not receive a bill at the end of your stay for ordering something you should not have done!
White wine (on tap, as were lager, red wine and soft drinks) is very drinkable, and the Cava very nice. House brandy not so good.
Having paid almost £1,000 per person, I was very surprised at the cost of hiring a safe for the week - £16.90 euros plus 5 euros deposit, and beach towels were 10 euros each deposit - so make sure you have some cash available at book in!
FOOD - plentiful, I do give credit there, but rather 'samey' each day, very little variation in selections at all, and the hot food most certainly was never hot, merely lukewarm, even if you got there at opening times. Bacon in the morning not very nice - streaky cut in half to make small slivers and very greasy. Omelettes pre-cooked and looking more like a flat pancake, sitting on a hot plate in piles and were mostly always cold.
SUN LOUNGERS - seem to be plenty around, and no-one made a rush to reserve their special seats. However, they are SO close together, (no little tables in between for your books/glasses/drinks etc) and could not be moved because there was a parasol placed between each two beds, slotted into the patio. It made for uncomfortable squeezing in and out between the rows of sunbeds.
POOLS - two of them, not especially huge, and mostly shallow for children. One fairly deep pool (about 5 ft) but if you are a serious swimmer, maybe find the lack of space irritating.
ROOMS - bit on the small side, but not a big problem. Balconies quite private which is good, however the table and chairs seem to vary from balcony to balcony - some have high backed textilene chairs (much more comfortable) and ours had the usual low back white plastic ones, so not easy to relax in (having had two days of rain I didn't want to sit propping up the bar all the time, so returned to the balcony to read, but it was too uncomfortable). Television - two English channels (ITV1 and BBC1 which was marvellous - on channels 35 and 36 and not as they state in the hotel information booklet) so I could watch the soaps if I wanted to or anything else on the wet and windy days. However, that said, the only place to watch the t.v. was laying down on the bed - there is a wooden headboard affixed to the wall behind the bed with a decorative rail at the top, just catching your head/neck, and as the pillows are long and narrow, they would not reach up high enough for padding. If we had had the high back balcony chairs like some other people, then maybe we could have utilised them inside the room as well as outside.
Staff were lovely, very cheerful, no problems there at all. Very few toiletries supplied in the bathroom, certainly no shampoo or conditioner or body lotion - just in case you want to pack your own. No tea making facilities, although reception did supply me with a kettle, even though I bought my own with me.
TOWEL CHANGING - this was done by the poolside each day between 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m., quite often there were not enough clean towels to go around, so it meant having to queue up and trek to reception for them. Nicer, like other hotels, if there is a permanently manned 'site' all day in case you may want to swim more than once in a day!
Parade of shops opposite the hotel - most selling exactly the same tourist stuff, also Supermarkets if you want to get some drinks for your room.
Although I make these slight criticisms, I did enjoy my stay, but I wanted to LOVE it, rather than say 'it was nice'. !

Room Tip: High floors are best for privacy. Ground floors overlooked by all passers by.

Dear Patricia,

We first would like to thank you for selecting our IBEROSTAR Playa de Muro hotel for your holidays in Majorca and for the time and effort you spent to share your personal impressions on your stay so we can take your vision into consideration to enhance our guests’ experience among us.

We are sorry to hear that you weren’t properly informed by your tour operator on what was included in your stay and would like to take the opportunity to explain it here: As you can check on our website and brochure, the use of the safe in the room is subject to an extra charge and some brand liquors may not be included in the All Inclusive treatment; Moreover we lament reading that you weren’t informed about the many excursions available around the hotel and not to have been informed about this during your stay as our reception team could have helped you find the most interesting places to visit on the island; for a future occasion please do not hesitate to contact our reception for anything you may need to fully enjoy your stay among us.

We also took good note of your comments related to our cuisine as in IBEROSTAR we lay high importance on the gastronomy offer, knowing that it is a very important part of our guests’ overall holiday experience; This is why our professional Chefs strive to prepare on a daily basis a wide variety of typical Majorcan delights as well as the best international dishes from high quality ingredients in order to satisfy the most demanding palates, we lament reading that we couldn’t conquer yours.

We have been going to Iberostar Playa de Muro on and off since 1989, staying there in total about 11 times. We have seen many changes over the years and they are always trying to improve and update the hotel. The last time we were there in 2011 the food had gone down hill significantly but we are pleased to say that it is now back to it's best, quality and variety were excellent.

We stayed in a family room which was huge and it has finally been updated to a nice cream colour scheme. Our room did back on to the road which was noisy and we were woken up every night between midnight and 1am by the bin men collecting the rubbish. There was also a lack of powerpoints, there was one in the bedroom and only one in the huge lounge/kitchen area. And the kitchen area needs to be ripped out and renewed it was quite old. The outside of the family building block is in need of a lick of paint. It is very shabby and it looks like it doesn't even belong to the main hotel.

The sunbeds around the family pool need new cushions and the sun umbrellas have been there for about 10 years at least. They are badly faded and rusty, every day we watched people struggling to put them up. We popped over to Viva Blue hotel (4 star) and they have lovely sunbeds and umbrellas. Please get some nice new ones as well.

The staff as usual are great, friendly, polite and helpful.

The hotel is expensive for a 4 star hotel, but it keeps the Brits out! We like all of the different nationalities, mainly German and Russian.

We had a good holiday as usual and we will be back again, but certain areas need to be improved especially for money that is charged.
