Reviewed 10 August 2014

We stayed at Viva Blue for 10 nights from 29th July to 8th August, as a family of four, on a room and breakfast basis. Overall we liked the hotel, and I've scored it as "very good". I'd give it 4 1/2 out of 5 if I could, it missed being "excellent" through just a few niggles.
Firstly the good points; the hotel is clean, very clean, the pools are clean, and there seems a small army of people cleaning the pools, the tiles, the grounds, the windows in reception.
This is a great hotel for kids, very family friendly with a splash pool, a section of one pool only 0.35m deep and a baby mini-pool also 0.35m (I think, my kids too old to use). There is a kiddie play area by the splash pool and great kids clubs.
There are plenty of pools and they weren't too busy, even when all the pool loungers were taken. There seemed to be a pool for everyone, every situation. My kids rated the pools as being the best thing, and that's when they thoroughly enjoyed the kids club activities.
The rooms themselves were nice, a living room with attached kitchenette, a bedroom, and I liked the fact that the sink area was separate from the toilet/shower/bath/bidet area. It meant one person could wash and brush teeth while another was on the loo. However the room wasn't as described by Booking.com who we booked with. The "double" bed was huge and nice and firm, very comfortable if you like firm beds.
The breakfasts were fantastic, every imaginable breakfast food, including sausages and bacon, although the sausages taste different to that which we buy in England - not an issue.
My kids loved the freshly made pancakes, I liked the almond "rusk" like biscuits!
The staff were very helpful, and the kids club staff were really good, Tam especially explaining about the Zorb balls on water.
The entertainment seemed good too. We wanted to use the hotel as a base and go out most days and most evenings, but we did catch the Elvis night and the Magic Act night, both of which we enjoyed. I know they also offered a Beatles night, Abba night, Pirate night and Rock Music Night whilst we were there, but unfortunately we missed out on those. The entertainment finished at a reasonable time too, so we weren't disturbed by it after going to bed.

The negatives were really only niggles, we did have a really good time at this hotel.
The few problems were:- we booked in and it seemed there were lots of "extra" charges. The safe was an extra E16.50 a week, the lane pool had an extra charge - which we didn't actually use as the 1.65m pool wasn't ever busy when we wanted to use it. The kids did pony rides as part of their kids clubs, and this had an extra charge of E6.00 each, although the kids really enjoyed this and it was an outside company providing the service.
Then there were times the restaurants/bars were closed. We arrived mid-afternoon and just managed to get food in the (very good) pool bar before they closed at 4pm. If we'd arrived 20 minutes later we would have had to leave the hotel to eat. We weren't on All Inclusive, although the hotel does offer this option, but even AI guests couldn't get a meal between 4pm and 6pm, although I've stayed in other AI hotels where you could get a self-service buffet at any time of day. I guess because it's not exclusively AI they would have to have staff working to charge the room card.
Also we felt that although breakfast was brilliant, that there wasn't much choice in the dinner buffet restaurant, although the kids liked it, and my daughter tried swordfish for the first time, and enjoyed it.
Another grumble was the pool loungers. When we arrived, we dumped the bags in the room and headed straight for the pool bar. We noticed that the pool was busy and loungers were taken but as it was late-ish in the day it was OK. The next day we hoped to have a day around the pool, but by 8:30 all the loungers were reserved, so we had a day out (at Hidropark in Alcudia where we had no problem getting a lounger). The next day, Thursday, no chance of a lounger, so had another day out of the hotel. On Friday we decided the only way to beat them was to join them, reserved a couple of loungers before 8am, had breakfast, had a fantastic day by the pool until 4pm when the kids had pony rides. But it shouldn't have had to be that way.
And Booking.com described the room as having a bedroom with double bed and sofabed and living area with sofa-bed. However there was no sofa-bed in the bedroom or room to put in an extra bed, but the lounge sofabed was in 2 parts so my son and daughter couls sleep on separate sides of the room, but my daughter was still put out at having to share a room with her brother when we thought he'd be in with us.
Finally, because we were on room and breakfast basis, when we ate other meals at the hotel (I think we had 4 days of lunches in the pool bar and 2 days of evening meals in the dinner buffet restaurant) and you pay by charging the room card - it was good that we didn't have to take euros down to the pool but we did have to keep track of how much we'd spent.

Room Tip: We had a first floor room in Block one. It was OK, but if we came again I would request a ground flo...

We stayed for 10 days in mid June on a self catering basis. With two young children we were a bit unsure whether they'd be kept entertained and occupied at the resort but we were soon proven wrong. The pools, whilst quite cold, were excellent and the playground provided endless fun for them both. The rooms were a good size, clean and had all facilities needed. A travel cot was provided at €4 per night as well. Satellitve TV in the room was a nice to have although the signal would sometimes get interrupted due to weather etc. Evening entertainment was good, my eldest enjoyed the evening shows and loved being able to dance along and get involved with the characters. The hotel itself is set in a good location, very close to the beach and to local shops and restaurants (although the onsite shop and restaurant were both very good). Taxi's into Port Alcudia and Alcudia Old Town are roughly 10-15 euro's and the Old Town in particular is worth visiting, lovely cobbled streets with great restaurants.

Special mention must go to the hotel staff. We purchased some stuffed toys of the evening characters Bufo and Katte. When we checked out we left one of the toys behind so we emailed the hotel to see whether it had been handed in by any of the cleaning staff. An email back a couple of days later said they had indeed found her, could they have our address to post it back and she returned safe and sound a couple of weeks later! Also i celebrated my birthday during our stay, we returned from the pool that day to find a card and a bottle of Cava from the management team. Very much appreciated and a nice touch!

We stayed here for 5 nights end of June 2014 and overall loved it. Lots to do for our 2 year old boy. It's all set up for kids.

3-4 swimming pools, slides, play areas, entertainment etc.

We are from England, but the general guests are from Germany or Scandinavia. Not an issue for us as we wanted to feel as though abroad, but something to think about next time so that the mix is a bit more balanced (dare I say it more Brits?!)

The Privelege apartment is nice with Hammock and sunbeds etc.

Food Buffet is fairly good although not amazing.

Hotel needs to sort out WIFI as felt as though it was narrowband / dial up at times.

2 minute walk to beach and all the shops on the main road.

Overall, we liked it here and would come back again.

Room Tip: The Privelege Suites have a mini garden - they are on the ground floor.

We stayed at the viva blue thanks to a complimentary upgrade from another viva hotel. All in all a good hotel and friendly staff. The food is great from the buffet style for breakfast and dinner. There is a choice of two restaurants for lunch which is nice to be waited on for a change during an all inclusive holiday. There was four of us my wife and our two girls 4 and 3. The staff were great with all the children. The kids club was also very good and the mini disco in the evening with Bufo. The entertainment staff also catered for the children while the evening entertainment was on by providing small chairs at the stage and doing face painting. Also worth a mention is the pool area which is set out very well with the pools, play park all built around the pool bar and toilets.

Got lucky with great weather in early April, short cycling break with younger son, we took a one bedroom apartment. The apartment was great, makes a big difference to have a small kitchenette rather than having to rely on restaurants all the time. The cycling facilities at the hotel were great and the staff were faultless. Would happily return.

We had a room with a nice big balcony (20 sqm) overlooking the pool area. Big plus was jacuzzi on balcony. Breakfast is very good, lot's of different choices. Lunch is overcrowded, and people would have to wait in line. Quality of salads was mediocre. Pools are nice and big, including splash pools for small children. They are freezing cold, probably about 15 degrees celcius in the morning. When it's sunny, the temperature rises a bit, but still cold as hell. Noisy shows every night which is great for adults, not so great for small children trying to sleep. Hotel is very clean. Wifi works ok in hotel room. Not sure if I'll return, but it was a nice stay.

Last night me and my family came home after spending a week in Mallorca. We booked this hotel because it had the best ratings on a Fritidsresor (Swedish leisure travel agency under TUI). The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean, but our hotel room was in the 4th block, as far as you could come from the reception. Luckily, we had pool view. We didn't have all inclusive (do not take all inclusive, there are so many good restaurants close to the hotel) but we tried the hotel food and it was ok.

The hotel was good, but my overall impression is affected by the bad weather we had (it hailed once) and I would like to go back some time when the weather is better.
