“Great hotel for families in a super location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2011

We very much enjoyed our holiday at Alcudia Pins. We were a group of 5 (a 2 year old with parents & grand-parents), travelling with Thomson. We stayed from 1-8 Sept 2011 in a 2 bed apart on a self catering basis. The transfer took over an hour as we were the last to be dropped off (there were several other hotel stops first). Our apartment was in Ibiza block over looking the Barmse club house with a view of the beach/sea. It was clean & comfortable with a large balcony. TV channels inc. BBC1 & Cbeebies. One bedroom was very small with just a double bed, two small bedside tables and no storage space, but there was a large cupboard in the lounge area where the safety box was located. Incidentally, you can rent a safety box from reception for 15E a week plus 5E deposit. We took some food basics with us and used the supermarket on site (open 8am to 9pm) that was well stocked. Cooking facilities consist of a 2 ring hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge with small freezer section. There was plenty of crockery/cutlery and 2 saucepans. We never ate in any of the hotel restaurants but did enjoy takeaway pizza from the on site La Trattoria. (Hawai family size 13.30E). I recommend the Portabella restaurant. Lovely food and service with a small play park next door that meant out son didn’t get fed up waiting for food. Turn right outside the hotel and it’s the last restaurant on the small strip.

We found the local buses excellent and travelled to Can Picafort on their market day (Friday) this was 1.25Euro per adult each way. We also spent a couple of hours in the beautiful resort of Puerto Pollensa this cost 1.55 Euro each way. Buses travelled every 15 minutes during the day to these resorts but be prepared to stand. The bus stop is conveniently located opposite the hotel. We also went on an ‘Island Tour’ with No Frills Excursions. This cost 57E per adult and was excellent value and was booked through the hotel reception. The hotel has a facebook page that I recommend you 'like' before you travel as I found out some valuable information through it. The ‘Muro Express’ small road train that travels around Playa de Muro (Adults 3E, Child 2.50E) was a great way to view the local area.

PCs with internet connection are available in the indoor bar (Salon Mediterraneo) at 1E for 10 mins but if you exit the hotel and turn left you will find internet access at 1E for 20 mins by the amusements.

We spent a lot of our time on the beach as our son loved to build sandcastles but he also enjoyed the splash pool and we could always find a sun bed there. I recommend Alcudia Pins for a fab family holiday!

We have recently returned from a week here All Inclusive with Thomson. We had 2 apartments in Ibiza building, one seaview and one pool view, both of which were comfortable and very clean with a safe, kettle and microwave; maids came in nearly every day to make the beds. We found the beds extremely comfortable and the linen was very nice and crisp and white. After reading some worrying reviews on here we were rather nervous but were very pleasantly surprised with this hotel - the whole place was spotlessly clean, the bar staff and waiters were very pleasant and friendly and particularly nice when my son practised his Spanish on them. There were no lists of rules and regulations, they were very free and easy and accomodating. Obviously they gave plastic cups round the pool and for taking on the beach but they were nice quality and this is a basic health and safety requirement.

We have not been to an All Inclusive before and were very impressed, we preferred the quieter Es Moll buffet next to the stage (by the beach). At this restaurant we never queued for more than a few minutes, the food was varied and very fresh, the staff were lovely and the tables always clean and cleared. We also ate in the Trattoria one evening and the BBQ restaurant at the front near the road- both very good too and no extra charge to our all inclusive deal. At 4pm the Trattoria serves pizza slices from the window on the all Inclusive deal which was lovely. We tried the white and rose wines which were both very good and the cocktails went down a treat! We never found anything that was not included in our All Inclusive - coffees, ice creams, sandwiches from the pool bar....

We were so close to the beach which was beautiful with very clear water and shelved very gradually so was very safe, boat trips go from the jetty near the hotel. There was a banana boat and paragliding if you fancied it. We managed to hire 2 beds on the beach on our second day to last us to the end of the holiday (about 8 Euro for 2 beds and a parasol per day) but you need to keep your eyes open as they are booked up very quickly.

The evening entertainment in the hotel was excellent, the Thomsons reps were superb and the shows were very good quality e.g. Pirates of the Caribbean, a hypnotist, Beijing acrobats, High School Musical... to name a few. We came home singing the Choco Latte song! The pool was busy and beds rather hard to come by until about 4pm when many became available but the children loved the shoot and the whirlpool.

My teenagers liked going to the Bar Mediterraneo in the basement of the Formentera Building round the pool where they could get a free wifi connection.

Although we didn't use it the bus stops right outside the hotel to go to Alcudia or Can Picafort.

We had a wonderfully restful week in a very happy holiday atmosphere.

Room Tip: I think a sea or pool view is good if you want to enjoy the evening entertainment.

We stayed at Alcudia Pins in August 2011 on an All inclusive package. When we arrived we were given a wrist band but no information on how the All inclusive arrangement worked. We had to come back and received a folder with opening hours for the different restaurants but no more information. We had to ask at every place what we could eat and what we had to pay for. Generally the free food was buffet style and low quality. For example, French fries, cold meatballs, mashed potatoes, hamburgers, pizzas, white bread, etc. The wine was of the cheapest kind, €2 bottles. Beer was served in plastic cups. My wife and I both lost 2kg on this trip, we couldn’t eat! Bear in mind we don’t appreciate fast food, although many other guests did. Momentarily we though this was a fat camp, many guests suffered from obesity.

The location on the beach is great but it’s a great distance to Alcudia. The rooms were clean and tidy.

We travelled with our children, 1.5 and 4 years old and stayed in a room with pool view. Our kids normally go to bed at 8. That’s when the entertainment started. So we had to endure 3 hours of loud music booming outside. The kids were crying and couldn’t go to sleep. When they eventually did we couldn’t carry on a normal conversation on the balcony because of the loud music. This carried on EVERY NIGHT = 7 days. How can this be a family hotel? We wont go back.

AlcudiaPins, Director de Relaciones con Clientes at Family Life Alcudia Pins, responded to this review, 7 September 2011
All the customers in Alcudia Pins receive the key of the apartment and a leaflet with hotel information (opening hours for restaurants, services at reception, a map from the hotel and info about no reservation of sunbeds) on their arrival. If, by mistake, customers are not given this information they can ask for a folder in reception, which is open 24H.
The quality of the food in restaurants is the same for all the clients, there is no difference between All Inc customers and self catering customers. All the menus, in restaurants a la carte and bars, have the All Inc information (about what’s included and extra charge for some items). On the other hand, only a part of the menu (a thirty per cent) has an extra charge.
Drinks are served in plastic cups, during the day in the swimming pool area, for health & safety reasons.
The entertainment starts at 7.45pm and finishes around 10.45pm. Guests can request a quiet apartment away from the show (subject to availability)

Stayed at this hotel all inclusive for 1 week as a party of 5 Adults and 4 children aged 2 - 10

The hotel has great facilities for children and the beach is lovely but very busy. It was very difficult to get sunbeds by the main pool if you were not there before 9am which was a shame however there were always plenty of sunbeds by the kids splash pool.

The food on the whole was ok once you figured out where you could eat. We only found out on the last day that you could also eat lunch at the BBQ and the Italian and also get pizza this was not very well communicated so to make the most of the restaurants find out on your first day where an when u can eat.

The rooms were fine, the cupboard space was limited for 4 people but we managed !! However the worst thing about this holiday was the beds. The beds in the bedroom were not too bad but not great however the pull out sofa beds were just not possible to sleep on we ended up putting 3 of us in the 2 singles and putting the 2 sofa bed mattresses and the 1 bed to make it possible to sleep on.

Playa de muro is nice but there is really not a lot to do outside of the hotel but this suited us fine as we did not venture out much

The night time entertainment for both adults and kids was probably some of the best I have seen at a family resort.

Unfortunately the quality of sleep really reduced our enjoyment of this holiday which is a shame cause the facilities are great and I would think that a hotel of this quality would be able to resolve the bed issue after so many comments !!

We have just returned from a fantastic 11 night stay at Alcudia Pins. Myself, my husband and 4 year old son loved every minute. Staff and Thomson reps are extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are great, although the actual bedroom area is very small. The whole hotel is immaculately clean. We were All Inclusive, the food in the main buffet restaurant was good and varied. We had two meals in La Trattoria which were lovely - great setting and more relaxed than the hustle and bustle of the buffet. The Thomson Tots club was excellent, our little boy had so much fun and the staff were great. The main pool got very busy during the day but there were plenty of sunbeds if you were there by 10, the kids splash pool was less hectic and there were loads of sunbeds available all day long. A fantastic hotel and holiday - we'd definitely recommend it to families with young children.

Went to this hotel with 6 adults and 2 children. Nice hotel with good access to the beach and sea which is wonderful. Unfortunately, the hotel does not have a "smoking policy" and inconsiderate people smoke all over the outside areas. We had to leave the childrens evening entertainment because there were so many people smoking around us and we were forced to inhale their smoke. There were even people smoking in between courses at the bookable outside eating venues. Spoils a good meal. Smoking also seemed widespread around the childrens pools. A complaint to the Thomson Rep resulted in the comment "It's their right to smoke". What about our right not to have to breathe their smoke. The food at this hotel is quite good and well presented although the buffet restaraunt does get busy at peak times. The bar staff are very good and we thought the all inclusive option was excellent. Overall, an excellent venue spoilt by the lack of a coherent smoking policy. There were a lot of different nationalities at this hotel and it may be that their attitude to smoking is different to that adopted in UK.

Room Tip: Book the all inclusive option.

What a fantastic holiday we just had at the Alcudia Pins! Everything about the hotel is great. The food and drink, the location, the staff all first class. The beach is safe for children, you can walkout a long way and still be waist deep. The entertainment was good quality and varied, the accomodation was cleaned on a regular basis with clean towels. I would definately return!
