The Las Gaviotas is very stylish, with the lobby filled with white leather, chrome and marble. Our (standard) room was quite compact, but comfortable with balcony and air conditioning. The bathrooms are also stylish, but here the style is at the expense of the function. The sink looks good, but doesn’t work well as a sink – it is too wide and shallow. The walk-in shower looks good and is great to use, but water runs out onto the floor. Outside there are two pools which were never crowded and sun-beds were always available. The standard of cleanliness was excellent throughout.

The staff were great – very friendly and helpful, and most having pretty good English. The restaurant is buffet style and during the week we were there, we were always able to find something good to eat. I would class the quality and nature of the food as a very good buffet standard, but not “fine dining”. Breakfasts were good, especially the freshly made omelettes, and good variety of fruit. Lunches at the pool-side bar were simple and plentiful and very good value. Drinks through-out were cheap, with a large beer costing only €2.60.

The clientele were very European with a fair proportion of Germans and Norwegians. The hotel is particularly suitable for those travelling with small children, but probably less so for those with teenagers.

If I were to visit the resort in the future, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Las Gaviotas again, and would recommend it to friends.

We booked this hotel via Star Tour, and primarily because of the room and our situation of having a 8-year old daughter and twins at 9 months. The room (221) is one of the larger suites in the hotel and the standard was very good. It is roomy with two bedrooms and a combined kitchen/livingroom. The bathroom was very nice, with tiles and a shower. Travelling with small children is always better with a bath tub, but the large sink was perfect for giving them baths.

The kitchen had a very noisy refridgirator, and was not perfectly equipped, I missed some basic stuff like something to do the dishes with, a water boiler and smaller details. Our twins got nice beds and we heard from other families that the couch was very good as a fifth bed. The beds are a bit hard.

High speed internet is a joke, they really need to upgrade their system.

We had booked half board, but found out after a couple of days that it was not convenient for us to eat there, and therefore we got a cash refund from Star Tour. The food was pretty good, a buffet with an ok variety of different dishes, but since we were staying for 14 days we would like some more choices. If I was the hotel manager, I would have chosen a daily three course meal with a childrens meny instead.

The pool area was great, three different pools with plenty of room. There was not a problem getting room, and our smallest kids could stay in the shades.

Las Gaviotas is tidy and nice, the service is good - but I was missing that little extra touch, exept from our lovely maid that surprised us with lovely animals made from towels and always a friendly approach.

The restaurant S'Albufera nearby is excellent, and I would not in a million years go to a resort with five hundred families instead. You can take the bus into Alcudia (but why bother?) and enjoy the lovely beach a hundred metres away.

Room Tip: x21 is the largest suites, good for 5 people

The rooms are good and the suite rooms are spacious from then onwards we found the holiday to be average. Pool area similar to other hotels in the area. The resteraunt food was average compared to other hotels we have stayed in in the past, the service in the resteraunt was inadequate and slow and they struggled with the english lingo.

Room Tip: We booked a small room and ended up with a suite

We stayed in Las Gaviotas in June 2010 for a week on half-board basis. We went with our 2 under 5 y.o. boys and had a pleasant stay. Our room was spacious and the boys shared a sofabed in the lounge which separated from the main bedroom. The bathroom was modern with a power shower. The balcony was quite big as we can put our dingy, lilos and the kids' beach toys and floaters too as well as a decent size table and 4 chairs that were already there. The room, all areas in the hotel and the pools are very clean. Prices for drinks and snacks in the hotel are very reasonable. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and all the food were always fresh and always some different things added everyday. The food were lovely and we enjoyed everymeal and looked forward to them. The pools were lovely too. One pool in the front is nicer and quiter - more for adult, where the one in the back is more lively for family and younger children. The back pool area is nice with a snack bar, little garden and splash area for kids.

Downsides: some of the staffs were not very helpful or friendly although most of them were. And they seemed short of staffs and it took ages if you requested something or help. Also that the bed in the main bedroom wasn't a proper double bed. It was 2 single beds put together that easily move apart. The hotel said they haven't got a proper double beds in any room. Location is great as the beach is only across the road. But i'd highly recommend half-board as the area is very commercial and the food around there are very tourists oriented and most restaurants serve similar foods - typical junk foods: burgers, pizza, fish and chips, etc also other foods like steak, paella, etc available but the prices didn't suit the taste of the food (average) as at lunch times we had meals at some of the restaurants there. The nicer restaurants are quite far from the hotel area. Overall we really enjoyed our stay as we spent all day at the beach and going back and forth to the hotel was so easy as it was so close from the beach. And the meals were really nice and would cater for everyone. I'm quite a keen cook so I love my food in quality and quantity. I also have a bit of OCD in cleanliness so this hotel really meets my standard. I'd absolutely recommend Las Gaviotas to anyone as long as you don't require partying places around the area as it's an area more for families without the overly noisy children though. And the bus stop to go to the town is right in front of the hotel too so it's very handy.

We stayed here first week in June as a family of 3 with a young daughter. Whilst the contemporary styling of the hotel won't be to everyones taste it certainly was for us and looking around at some of the other tired hotels it stands out as a gem.
I can see why this hotel ranks so well on review websites and would have no hesitation in recommending it to families or couples alike.
Although the weather was poor for most of the week we were there (unusual for Majorca in June) and the pools could have done with some heating it didn't stop our daughter from spending all day in them.
The food in the hotel was great and the bar prices were very reasonable considering that it is a pretty iconic bar along the Playa de Muro strip.

Arrived at the hotel in the coach after a couple of drop offs to other hotels and was immediately impressed with the look of the hotel. Reception staff were all friendly and helpful and when I requested a room close to family that were arriving later they immediately accomadated this.
The twin room although not large was plenty big enough for myself and my young son, the bathroom was large with a big walk-in shower and the balcony looked over the quieter of the three swimming pools, the hotel was very quiet at night. Having a fridge in the room was useful for snacks and drinks or you can order from the mini bar, room service was fast and at a reasonable price.
All the staff was very friendly and would greet you with a Hola, and the hotel was constantly cleaned, keeping the white furniture in the recention area clean and fresh looking, the rooms were cleaned every day, with towels changed as required, pool towels were provided, along with room towels and towelling robes which were useful after a dip in one of the pools. Free wifi is available within the hotel.
The pool bar served drinks and very good snacks, there is also a bar in the lobby area which we didn't try. We went half board and the buffet breakfast and evening meal were fantastic with a huge amount of choice, I even managed to find something each day for my very fussy 8 year old! The freshly cooked pancakes at breakfast are recommended, as are the desserts in the evening. Being a vegetarian I wasn't sure if there would be much available but there was a vegetaian option each day, plus plenty of salads and other vegetable dishes and I always had plenty to eat.
The pools and surrounding areas are spotless, with one quieter pool attracting adult sunbathers and swimmers and two pools for those wanting a more lively swim, where you can take your own pool toys and inflatables.
A few minutes walk from the beach, with lots of shops, supermarkets and restaurants nearby it is ideally placed.
I would highly recommend this hotel and feel that any other hotel in the future would find it hard to match this one in every way.

Room Tip: Room 317 overlooked the quieter of the pools
