“Great Family Holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

I travelled to this hotel as a family with two girls aged 9 & 6 in the last week of May. The weather this time of year is changeable and varied between bright sunshine, cloudy and heavy rain, the temperature was around 20C but was much cooler in the evening.

The hotel itself gives a very good first impression, the reception is modern and spacious and the staff were friendly and professional. They were especially nice when my 6 year old used tiny bits of Spanish, they really do appreciate the effort. We checked in alone which was fine, I did walk through reception during a busy check in and it did appear very hectic. I did witness a couple and baby trying to check in at 11pm one evening only to be told that the hotel was full, I had heard the same from someone else in a party of 8 earlier and they were sent to another hotel - this is slightly worrying.

The beach by this hotel is excellent, lovely sand and shallow water which allows the children to play in relative safety, you can walk out 50 meters before it starts getting too deep. Sunbeds cost €10.65 to hire with a parasol - the charge for these is dictated by the council, not the hotel. Be warned you will be offered watches and sunglasses, massages and hair braiding several times every hour, they are not overly intrusive but can be slightly annoying.

The rooms are fairly spacious and very clean, the inclusion of a fridge is a great help and not something I have had before all inclusive. The décor is fine if a little dated, it wouldn't pass as 4 star in the UK but we found it comfortable enough (even on the pull out bed in the lounge area. Travelling with young children we were back in the room most evenings relatively early, unfortunately our room had no view, just a road. A pool or sea view costs extra. The room did have a TV but for English speaking you are limited to BBC1 and BBC2 plus CNN news, a few more channels or some pay per view would be handy.

The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and appears well maintained, I reported a loose balcony tile and this was repaired the next morning - well done.

We stayed just before school half term and caught the start of half term when the hotel became much, much busier.

The restaurant is very good, the food is excellent by all inclusive standards, not top restaurant quality but there was always plenty to choose from and was usually fresh and hot, even a fussy eater can find something. The kids and wife loved the pancakes (with every breakfast). When the hotel was at capacity, the restaurant was extremely busy at peak times (9am & 7pm), evening meal was the busiest and on a couple of occasions we had to stand by a table and wait for it to be cleared from the previous guests, my advice is to get in as soon as possible to get a table.

The pool area is pleasant, however some of the trees/bushes around the childrens pool can obstruct the view of the pool and more chairs could be fitted in. When the hotel got busier getting a bed by the pool was very difficult, most had towels on before 9am. Unbelievably, on the morning when we had torrential rain somebody folded over the chairs in prime position and put their towels on them???? Also, one side of the pool has created a wind tunnel effect.

An annoyance was that all inclusive drinks were only available from the pool bar, very strange that the hotel has 2 bars and only 1 can be used unless the weather is bad. During May the evenings are cool and some people may want to sit inside - especially those without children who aren't interested in the kids entertainment between 8 & 9 every night. This is not 4 star mentality, this is not putting the guests first. I wasn't overly impressed with some of the staff at the pool bar shaking their tip jar and pretty much demanding tips from guests, on a positive note, the Iberostar cocktail is delicious.

The guests are a mix of British and German and it seemed to me that the childrens entertainment was heavily aimed at the German side. The entertainment staff were friendly and enthusiastic at all times.

I did not like were the childrens play area was situated - It was behind the outside stage, by the beach and adjacent to a public road, I feel this was a little too easily accessible to people not staying at the hotel.

I also was disappointed with the charge for wifi, €20 for the week, however you can only use this on one device at a time, if I had known this I may not have bothered. Safe is €18 for week plus €6 deposit. Towels can be borrowed from reception for use at pool or beach and can be changed everyday although you do need to put a €10 per towel deposit.

On the whole, nice hotel, good food, great beach, would I go back, maybe but not at full price only with a good deal.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms may be a good idea

Just returned on Thursday from a half term week away. After reading some of the negative comments on here I was a little worried that I had picked the wrong hotel. Well I was wrong. We arrived after a long drawn out transfer from the airport. Check in went smoothly and we were given our room key. We stayed in Block 4 - we were given a room on the 6th floor which I wasn't happy about as I have a 7 year old and a 10 month old. There wasn't anything else that they could offer, so after explaining to my eldest she must not go on the balcony we got over it. The room was basic but it was clean and the beds were as comfy as could be expected. The maid came in every day to make the beds and tidy up and she did well - not sure how often sheets were changed, but that said you wouldn't change them more than once a week at home so not really an issue, towels were changed more or less every day but there were plenty of them. The complex its self was very nice, plenty of sun beds and the restaurant was very nice - so clean and the staff so friendly. The food options were good - I am very very fussy and I didn't go hungry, plenty of food during the day at various intervals. Always somewhere to get a drink. We spent time on the beach which was absolutey beautiful. I made use of the spa - had a pedicure - which at first I thought was expensive but after the event was more than happy with the treatment I received and it was bliss to have time to myself. We were pleased with the entrainment, the team did a fab job. My daughter was hardly to be seen as we couldn't keep her out of the kids club - plenty of activities for the children and they looked after them well. Thank you Veronica and Elisabeth - my daughter hasn't stopped talking about you. It would have been nice if there was an area that catered for small babies (of which quite a few were there during our time) My little has just started to crawl and other than when we were on the beach we couldn't put her down as the tiled flooring would have been dangerous for her. We had quite a bit of rain here and there but it still didn't ruin our holiday. The outside location was a bit disappointing as there wasn't anything unless you travelled. On the whole had a fab time and would return to the hotel. Thank you.

Room Tip: Was happy where we were situated but if we do visit again I would pay the extra for the posher rooms...

Good beds. We had a double bed, not two singel beds together - nice. Ok rooms. Entertainment from 8 to 10 pm, then quiet, good if you want the kids to sleep. There where some training/aerobic etc in daytime, but I never knew when and where. The instructor should advertise more! Good food.

Stayed in this hotel last year but have only just got around to writing review. Stayed here with husband and daughter, excellent location, food was good, lot of choice, entertainment good. Would thoroughly recommend the trip to Palma Aquarium/Katmandu. Also walk along the pontoon, you can clearly see the fish swimming along with the jellyfish. All in all a brilliant holiday and would definitely go again.

We have just returned from a week at this hotel with our two children - stayed half term week end of May.

We arrived at lunch time and checked in, the staff were immaculately dressed and extremely efficient and helpful one of the speediest check in's we have ever had. They explained there was a charge for a safe deposit box, which was the cheapest we have ever paid, and also explained that there is Wifi free for 30 minutes per day, or a charge if you wished for longer. We were more than happy with the free 30 minutes and daily I would go to the lovely people on reception who would help me connect to it.

Our room was ready, which consisted on a one beded apartment, which was spotless and had a beautiful view of the pool and sea, throughout the week our room was cleaned to an exceptionally high standard and the beds made with a little feature and sweets on the bed, fresh towels every day, bottled water and toiletries, something we have never experienced before on a daily basis - the best maid service we have ever experienced from a 4 star Thomas Cook.

The food in the restaurant was excellent, they had a great kids food section too even something for fussy kids! , but there was a vast amount of dishes of international cuisine, salads, fish, meats, cheeses and desserts, you would be hard pressed to find something you didn't like, one night they had a white and brown chocolate fountain which the kids adored, whole salmons baked in salt, duck with the most amazing sauce and fresh fish and meats been cooked. They also had an outdoor beech bar area where you could eat, and even in half term we weren't queuing. The food was that nice I've put half a stone on!

The pool area had a lot of sunbeds and thankfully we weren't up at silly O'clock placing towels down, there were plenty of sunbeds around both pools, and also there is a grassed area that over looks the beach, where there were always empty beds available there. You were right on the beach and you could hire sunbeds which we did for part of the week which was lovely and was 10 euros for two beds and umbrella, you could also take drinks from the beach bar down onto the beach too.

The entertainment was brilliant the best we have ever experienced with Thomas Cook, it wasn't the normal reps singing their hearts out, but professional entertainment ranging from a Rock Band which were fabulous and I don't really like 'rock' but loved them. To Mama Mia and The Lion King show, every night there was a range of entertainment for the kids up till 9am then the show started 9pm - 10pm and was fabulous. One of the nice things was the entertainment stopped at 10am and they played music at a reasonable level till midnight, so you could sit around and chat and listen to music, but if you wanted to go to bed you could and actually go to sleep unlike some places where the music is that loud you haven't got a chance of sleeping until after midnight, great when you've kids.

The hotel was mainly full of couples of various ages and families both German and English and yes at times the restaurant could get busy, but we always found a table and if there wasn't one ready for us, there soon was as the restaurant staff worked so incredibly hard and there were never dirty dishes left around like some places. As soon as you sat down in a morning they were there offering you coffee and were very welcoming.

The location is perfect too, shops and bars and stuff for the kids just outside the hotel, 25 minutes to the strip in Alcudia and 5 minutes on the bus that runs every 15 minutes from outside the hotel, we caught it a number of times to go to the marina in Alcudia which is lovely, the old town for the market and it's only 6 euros for a family of four.

All in all from the reception staff, maids, bar attendants and restaurant staff we could not fault any of them, they were efficient, friendly and utterly professional, the hotel grounds, pool and general areas were immaculate - would I recommend staying at the Iberostar Alcudia Park - ABSOLUTELY! book it and go and enjoy yourselves.

We visited for one week at the end of May 2014. We were in a party of 11 (3 rooms all inclusive) Check in was very drawn out, if there's a queue prepare to age rapidly. We arrived late evening, and none of our rooms were prepared ie. bedding was missing, and two children were expected to share one bed ! We were all tired and the evening receptionist was no help. Food was laid on in the restaurant (salami, cheese with flies (yes flies) and bread. Two cockroaches were running round the floor, so a good start to the holiday. We were ready for words the next morning.
Two rooms were changed next day, although initially they wanted to charge us, until one of our party made them see sense.
Dining room is chaotic, and we sat together only 4 times during our stay, as reserving a table was not an option, (We did notice a large Spanish party had the same table for every meal, so we wondered how this miracle could occur without reservation ???) The food was very bland, virtually the same every single day, and the scrummage for it was manic at times.
Drinks on all inclusive, are taken at the open air beach bar, unless the weather is bad (heavy rain), then it is switched to the indoor bar/cafe which is pay only normally, and open to the general public (virtually deserted all week) The temperature dropped markedly each evening, so unless you can get a seat near the generators, you won't be sitting there for long. Call me cynical, but a good ploy for the hotel to serve the minimum from the bar. It worked, because we went to paying bars in the area on a number of nights rather than catch colds sat watching the hotel "entertainment". Why the indoor bar is not available to all inclusive guests, shows the total disregard this hotel chain has for its customers.
The entertainment is again outside, unless the weather (not the temperature) is bad. Now, it might of been for some people (especially the German guests) but clapping and dancing in sequence to recorded music is not for me, and maybe I'm years (light) away from calling myself a "European" but how reviewers have said it is good, is to put it lightly, astonishing.
On departure we all used the courtesy luggage room. We had two childrens pushchairs and put them in the room one hour before leaving. Fifteen minutes prior to departure, we went to retrieve our luggage etc. from the luggage room, only to discover one of the puschairs was missing. We asked at reception (which is directly facing the luggage room - 20 feet approx) and the guy just shrugged his shoulders. We had a look in the dining room but resigned ourselves to its loss. Our transfer arrived and we were loading our bags, when our four year old started shouting our pushchair had just gone past with a child and its mother pushing it. We confronted the lady, who informed us that reception had given her the luggage room key and was told to help herself when she asked if she could borrow/hire a pushchair !!! Not the best way to end the holiday, and the receptionist eventually admitted it was his mistake. Really quite shambolic, and just about summed up this hotel and presumably the chain.

Dear Dave,

Firstly we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your personal impressions on your recent stay at our IBEROSTAR Alcudia Park hotel. It is only through feedback such as yours that we are able to maintain and indeed, where necessary, improve upon the service that we provide to our valued guests.

We lament reading your disappointment on the rooms we accommodated you in however we would like to point out that we allocate our accommodations in accordance with the room type selected at time of reservation and encourage you for future occasions to contact our call center from where we can offer you a personalized booking guidance and help you choose the accommodation type that best meets your family’s holiday needs and wishes.

As you well say, as soon as you reported to reception the following day, our staff offered you the possibility to change your accommodation for a superior apartment, these are more expensive than the ones you booked, this is why an extra charge is requested.

Moreover we were very surprised to read your comments on the presence of flies in our buffet, as our maître and waiters are present throughout the service to ensure that everything is in accordance with our standards; furthermore, our hotel is HACCP certified on food safety and general hygiene, this certification includes very strict protocols and regular audit visits so we want to reassure you on this point.

The passion for gastronomy being one of the prime pillars of our company, our professional Chefs strive to surprise our guests with a high standard gastronomy and the possibility to savor the best of the local cuisine as well as the finest international delights all prepared from prime quality ingredients; the variety of dishes throughout the week is ensured by the two weeks menu rotation imposed by the company on a global level so that our guests can experience many different flavors at every single meal.

Related to the unfortunate episode related to your child’s pushchair, we sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding, in fact, we do have a pushchair service at our hotel and stock them in our luggage room; whenever a guest requests one, our reception team offers the possibility to pick one free of charge, although ours are clearly tagged, this guest unfortunately took yours for mistake.

Last but not least, as you can see both on our website and brochure, the Sea Soul bar is reported as being on extra charge even for All Inclusive guests, for future holidays’ planning please do not hesitate to visit our webpage where you will find a full description of our hotels’ services and different board bases.

Our main commitment is to offer the best vacation to our guests, based on the service provided by professionals and the delivery of high quality products, so we do hope we will have the opportunity to change your first impression about our service and turn it into a wonderful holiday experience with IBEROSTAR in the near future.

We booked into this hotel when we checked out of a poor one in Can Picafort. This is a great location and gives plenty of board options. Rooms comforatble for sleep and breakfast lovely. Very busy dining room but great for families with lots of entertainment. Great location with nice resturants and on the sea front. They only have twin beds to push together which is common in Mallorca - I have suggested that they add a double bed room option and update some rooms for luxuary/couples. Overalll really enjoyed staying at this hotel and the staff are wonderful. I would have given 5 rating if we had children and would return to this hotel when we do have a family.
