“Relaxing Holiday”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

Just completed a 4 day stay at Marriott's Phuket Beach Club. This is a large property which incorporates accommodation for both the Marriott vacation Club Asia Pacific and guests at the JW Marriott Hotel. We stayed in a two bedroom villa which was very well equipped and although some of the furnishings are starting to show some wear and tear they are very spacious, well equipped and kept very clean.

The hotel provides a large range of daily activities to keep guests of all ages occupied. Some of these are free while others incur additional costs. The complex has 3 swimming pools and a very well equipped gymnasium and sauna in the health club. The pools are probably a one minute walk to Mai Khao Beach, which is undeveloped and often deserted, but provides a great opportunity to enjoy the beach without crowds. During the time I was there, a rogue crocodile had been seen swimming in the area around Mai Khao beach so guests were advised not to enter the sea and the beach was red flagged. Even so, most people, myself included, continued to swim or play around in the sea despite the warnings.

Due to the size of the resort, and the large number of rooms and accommodation blocks it is easy to get lost when wandering around and i would advise against exploring after dark (which I did on the first night), as this will virtually guarantee you'll get lost.

This was my first time staying in the hotel (having stayed previously at Marriott Mai Khao beach) and the quality of service and accommodation is top notch and can't be faulted, but there are is a growing number of newer hotels in the Mai Khao area now and this can lead to the feeling that the accommodation, while very comfortable, is starting to show its age and look a little worn in places.
Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone wanting to get away from it all and enjoy a quality, relaxing break in Phuket.

The Marriott Phuket Beach Club is perhaps the most stunning and most welcoming and relaxing Marriott property I have ever experienced. I'm a platinum Marriott Rewards traveler and have seen a few. This one takes the prize.

Not to be confused with the Marriott Mai Kao Beach Club (which has rooms with plunge pools whereas the Phuket Beach Club rooms do not--and despite its name doesn't actually have any beach front) the Phuket Beach Club is attached to and integrated with the JW Phuket. By attached I mean that to a guest visiting the resort there's no distinction between the properties. Same check-in desk. Same health club. Same restaurants. Same beach. Same exceptional service. The only real difference is that the Beach Club "rooms" are actually 2-BR timeshare apartments.

We visited with our three children and found no shortage of things to entertain them and us for our weeklong stay. The common knock on these Marriott properties is that they are remote--far away from the action in Patong or Phuket town. That was perfectly fine with us. We hired a car for our Phuket vacation and drove the 20 minutes to Tesco for groceries and into Phuket Town and other beaches on the island. Having visited those Phuket hotspots our family was pleased to enjoy the serenity and sanity of quiet Mai Kao.

The beach was red flagged during our entire visit because, as our welcome letter from guest services explained, a "sea creature" had been spotted in the water. While we didn't swim at the beach, that didn't keep us walking and playing on it or from enjoying the incredible pools and amenities the resort has to offer.

The restaurants are expensive by Thai standards, but if you're staying at a Marriott in Thailand you're probably going to expect that.

Room Tip: No bad rooms. Ours was on the North side near the beach. Garden view (ground floor) villas have a...

Although not as "posh" as it's "sister" Marriott Spa, this is a superb place to relax and unwind. Situated at the top North tip of Phuket, far away from the noise and the bustling beach strips of Phuket it has all it takes to have a relaxing holiday. The two bedroom apartment we had was amazing with all you need. It has a very long and beautiful beach that is almost private, same as the pool. Close to the airport makes it very convinient. We rented a car ( highly recommended) and managed to tour Phuket and yet go back to this great retreat. The level of service is excellent and they are always on their toes to give you a good feeling.

Room Tip: If you are going without kids and want peace and quiet go for the apartment 4200 and above in the fa...

One of the best timeshare resorts i have visited. We were invited to stay for 4 nights at total$550 including breakfast for two.The 2 bed room villa was with a private plunge pool. The master bedroom is huge and so is the bathroom. The villa has a full fledged kitchen and is very spacious. It also had a washing machine and a dryer .All the convenience of home. The breakfast is very lavish and there is no need to have lunch after eating it. Worth a visit anytime.Only it is far from the town and other tourist spots.

Room Tip: the villas with a pool

One of the best timeshare resorts I have ever stayed in. Yes it is my home resort but that makes me even more demanding. Maintenance standards are kept high and the staff are charming. My only criticism is that the jw mariott hotel it shares facilities with is not at the same level. However, the villas themselves are a really good standard, the setting is great but you will need transport to see anything of the phuket area.

We went here by an invitation from a friend. They are giving away points to existing members when they invite people and they buy the property.

Hotel itself was a four star. We can't say it is as bad as Bintan ClubMed but is outdated and worn. Service was okay but not up to those brands like Hyatt or W.

Worst was breakfast buffet. I would say cold, fast food buffet with cheap ingredients.

Now, we had a mandatory 90min presentation and was ready to hear more. The sales agent was bragging about Marriott being the world best and she was demanding for answers on stupid questions like "Do you trust Marriott?". We just smiled and she keeps asking questions like this and how Marriott has become the best in kind. Well I asked her to narrow down to details. She didn't proceed until she heard the right answer so I did - "no, Marriott seems to be a very arrogant brand and trust is about experience not branding, my experience so far has been lower than standard".

Anyway then we moved onto details and the manager kind of guy turns up, he says he'll give me platium status at Marriott rewards if I sign up now but not void if I come back later. Now you guys expect me to pay 100K in a 90min sales pitch? Then I also thought what are these guys trying to hide that is pushing customers to make quick decisions?

Guys, customers are smart these days and this kind of cheap sales strategy is never going to work. People have resistance in forcing a brand image into your brain. Your sales pitch was like trying to brainstorm me not pitch me.

I will never buy Marriott. I know that financially it doesn't make sense since the maintenance cost is going to increase and the hotels will get old. Even if it does, I would rather pay more and choose better quality standard hotels than tying into a hotel that is too proud of itself.

I did have some good image of Marriott and Ritz Carlton until now. From now on, a lot of suspicion I think.

This is a beautiful hotel and the villas are spacious and the king sized bed in master bedroom is gorgeous.
The kids club was great for 4 to 8 year olds and the staff are delightful
The major problem is the expense of all the restaurants. The deli is the most reasonable.
However Thai innovation is on hand and small local restaurants are opening either side of the property. The best is Honey seafood just off the beach by the anantara hotel. They do take away too so hopefully these other options will put commercial pressure on Marriott to modify their pricing structure.
