“Great resort but a little isolated”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2009

The review below called "Great accommodation but far from the action” by duex_fils on Sep 23, 2009 is an accurate reflection of our holiday experience at this resort as well. The only points I'd add are:
- we hired a car which allowed our family more freedom for sightseeing and getting groceries from Tesco,
- we didn't end up touring around Phuket that much as there was enough to do at the resort or the tours provided transfers,
- we missed having local resturants set on the beach like other resorts, but at the very southern end past the Out of the Blue bar there is a massage tent and very small bar and 'cafe' run by a family. Their Thai food was great and a fraction of the cost of the resort food (I had 4 meals without "issues").
- we're also did an exchange with Interval International and sat through the 90 minute Marriott Vacation Club presentation for 2 free tickets to FantaSea (it was worth our time),
- the kids club came in handy when it rained. For 900 baht kids can do circus training which our son greatly enjoyed.
Having been there and now knowing where everything is, we'd go again without hestiation.

... Stayed in a luxury two bedroom fully equipped apartment in this apartment/hotel resort. The apartment lacked nothing: a fully equipped kitchen which was serviced each day by - when we saw them - a cheerful, smiling team who added to the service by arranging, from masses of soft white towels, a variety of cute animal and bird shapes.
Gallons of bottled drinking water was replenished each day; no having to buy it from the hotel shop at exhorbitant prices. The bathroom was big enough to hold a party in. The spa bath big enough to hold a swim-meet in.

The resort has at least three differently themed pools, each one convenient for your apartment plus a non bathing sunset feature pool. One pool has a swim-up bar with the customer seating behind a water fall if the drinks aren't cold enough. All pools have attentive staff who look after your needs, from guiding you to a sunbed and arranging your towels to bringing you a continuous supply of iced water, ice-cold towels and fruit throughout your relaxation time. As the sun moves your staff move too to ensure that your sun umbrella is suitably positioned. Full marks for great pool staff
Before sunset Thai dancers perform a water ballet to drum beats while standing in the feature pool then as the sun sets across the pool and guests politely jostle to photograph the sun sinking; it plunges once into the sea and, as a mirror image,a second time into the feature pool. Ah!

The restaurants are high-class but expensive though the portions are for huge appetites. There is food for all tastes in lavish surroundings

The location leaves a lot to be desired. The beach is very steep with a strong undertow. My wife found getting into the water a serious challenge. The location, some twelve miles from Phuket shops and nightlife, means a car is a must though the local drivers and modes of transport make having a car something of a lottery.

All in all my wife and I loved the Beach Club and would go again at the drop of a hat.

We stayed 7 days here as an exchange with Interval International in a 2 bed villa in section 3. The villas were fantastic - extremely luxurious. Our ensuite was nearly as big as our bedroom at home with a huuge bath. Bed was big king size and kids beds were double beds. We had 3 TV's - all with cable and you can get movies on demand (535 bht). Nice compact kitchen with everything you need - including a great convection microwave which we used heaps.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Kids pool was well set out - nice and shallow. The give kids ice lollies after 12pm - mine had 4 each. And huge beach towels.
Had a Thai massage in one the 3 beach huts - 400 bht for 1 hour. I'm not a big fan of Thai massage (too wimpy) but still enjoyed it.
We had room service 1 night and was cheap by Aus standards and portions were huge. Luckily we only ordered 3 plates for the 4 of us..
Picked up some items up at Turtle Cove in the little supermarket. Again reasonable prices Aus wise. It's not even a 10 min walk and you can get a buggy if need be. Had ice cream at Swensens - best I've ever tasted 59bht per scoop.
Beach was too rough for anything but walking along- even the tide was very strong. Pulled our 3 year old off his feet!
As noted before, do a shop at Big C or Tescos (near Phuket town) for supplies. We normally self cater on holidays because we cant really enjoy restaurants too much with 2 lively boys and they are often too tired at night to go out for dinner (this is why we like self catering apartments).
Little room with front loading washer with dryer on top to do laundry is very handy. They provide detergent but no stain remover.
The only problem we had is the distance from any shopping etc. so staying there for 7 days is too long it you want to check out the rest of Phuket. It takes about an hour to drive from Patong to the Marriotts and after more than a few days, the drive does get old. Luckily we had organised a driver before we left so getting out and about wasnt a problem for us, it was that we used valuable holiday time in a car. They do provide a shuttle but its rather expensive (500 bht each return to Patong but you have to buy pairs of tickets). By comparison, 1 trip I organised with our driver was to Central Festival for 2 hours (takes about 40min to get there), and then over to Patong for 3/4 hr for tailor fitting and quick shop and then back - this cost me 1500bht.
If they provided 1 free shuttle I think guest would feel happier about the distance.
For getting away, relaxing and pampering, its perfect - no touts on this beach, but not for seeing Phuket. Glad we stayed here but probably wouldnt stay again.

Was there from Sept 5th till Sept 11th. Definitely one of the best resort for relaxation. We've got a villa with 2 wonderful bedrooms, living, dining room with a fully functional kitchen. The restaurants were nice as well, however, we made full use of the kitchen provided as we brought our domestic helper along. Location wise, it is rather isolated and far from Phuket town. They have three huge pools, all well designed. Definitely, definitely will be going again. In fact, we are already planning to do it again early next year. 2 thumbs up!!!!!

My partner and i have stayed twice at the Marriott Phuket Beach Club as part of the Interval International exchange Nov 06 & Nov 07. It is one of the most relaxing places i have ever been to. Accomodation (2 bed villa) outstanding, Swimming pools outstanding, Gym very good, restaurants very good. It is expensive for the area but the quality is high. The onsite supermarket is expensive - the downside (the isolation) is that this is the only option other than getting a taxi to the supermarket (40 mins). The 'fetaured' restaurants are pricy, the main restaurant is not. Alcohol is pricy. Finally must mention the two resident elephants (Ning Nong & Jambo if i remember correctly). Hours of fun watching them. In summary - great place if you're looking for complete relaxation, if you're a more 'active' holidayer maybe not for you.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2009

We just came back from a week stay. The place is great for families with young kids. We traveled with our young daughter and son and they had fun in the Teen and Kids club.

We liked most
1) because we were MCVI owners, we got to use the villas which was great for families. Although we saw some bugs a few times but overall was a great place. Its 1100sq ft with kitchen and big beds even for the kids.
2) the resort is great. Large space with 3 separate pools to choose from. Great facilities as expected from a large 5 star resort
3) there's a new boutique shopping mall with supermarket 5 mins away called Turtlemart. Where you can have cheaper food and supermarket. We liked the Coffee shop food there.

We didnt like
1) the restaurant food was good but expensive. Well if you stay in the villa, you have option to cook or eat in the Turtlemart coffee shop. They have great food there.
2) its a bit far from the tourist places. This resort is located in Mai Khao beach which is very clean and private beach. However you will have to travel about 45 mins to go to the town or city. So it depends where you want to spend most of the time.
3) when we checked in, we had to wait for 2 hours for the room even though we called earlier for early check in. And they didnt offer us anything while we were waiting. It may have been because of the late guest checkout but we called earlier so they should have managed it
4) the weather was not sunny for the first few days. Suggest check the weather before you go.

While we were there we met Tommy Schuman from Marriot vacation club and we added more points to our timeshare program. If you come there pls do find him so he can show you the vacation club program which we are on and see if it fits your lifestyle. I think they are great value timeshare program. Tell him we recommended him. He may give you some special offers too.

Other places of interest that we went
1) Fantasea - a great buffet dinner and animal show. Your kids will love it. This is like a las Vegas type show. It will be around 1 hr from this resort.
2) James Bond Island - we took the 4 in 1 deal so we were able to go to James Bond island, sea canoe, then the elephant and monkey show within the same day. If you like more of the canoe or island tour, take the 2 in 1 only so you have more time there.
3) we rented a taxi with driver for 1500 THB for a full 7 hour tour around Phuket and the neighborhood. We didnt plan earlier and it was Sunday so most shops were closed. You may be able to get a better deal but plan ahead.

Overall a great place. And will definitely recommend this for families with young kids. We're not sure if we will come back as there's lots of places to discover too.

Good luck

... if you are there with family with kids.

We stayed there on a promotion of the Marriot vacation club so the value rate is 5 because we had free accommodation for 4 nights. The rooms (better to say apartments) are very spacious, well decorated with an amazing master bedroom/bathroom combination. Staff very friendly (as everywhere in Thailand), and a nice activity plan (Yoga, Pilates, etc.) for free. That's the pros. The main negative of the hotel is the location. Far away from everything and the asking price for a round-trip with a taxi to Phuket town (the driver will wait for 3 hours) very expensive. The restaurant has good (but not special or exceptional) quality and it is very expensive. There is a mini market with incredibly overpriced items (70-100% more than the 7/11 prices). The pool is relatively small for the size oh the hotel and occupied by kids :-) No negative feelings but the hotels is targeting mainly families with kids and not couples or honeymooners.

In a nutshell: I would recommend the hotel to families with kids that they want to spend 4-5 days relaxing and doing nothing more. Not for couples or for travelers wanting to explore a destination.
