Ate dinner here in June 2013, while on holiday in the area. Although we knew it no longer had a star we still had relatively high hopes. The setting is lovely, and the view from our table beautiful. The service was patchy. Although I try, I hold my hand up to not having the best grasp of conversational french, and make due allowance for this. We ordered drinks, and a few minutes later two glasses of sparkling wine were placed in front of us. We just assumed this was a perk of the tasting menu and were quite delighted, however shortly after a waiter bustled over, said nothing and whisked them away. As two fresh (I hope) glasses immediately appeared on the next table, we were left to guess that we had been given their order by mistake. It gave us something to laugh about, but an explanation would have been nice, and frankly rather than just taking them silently only to throw them away, it would have been much more charming to tell us and let us enjoy the unexpected bonus. As for the food, the starters were quite nice (husband had normal tasting menu, I had vegetarian) and the mains were ok, what let them down was the fact that the same sauces / garnishes recurred across the dishes which meant it felt a bit like eating the same thing just with a different meat or main constituent. It was generally cooked quite well. The definite standout feature was the desserts, they were lovely and well presented.

I don't know whether this should be a hotel review or a restaurant one ideally both. I last stayed here nine years ago and was not overly impressed. At the time it had a Michelin star for food. My wife and I wondered if it deserved the star. It lost it! Now however all is changed. The rooms are better appointed and have air conditioning. The restaurant is very much better and warrants that star which it lost. The food has touches of the orient, most unusual in France. I asked for advice on a Frontonais wine which I have always found excellent value. The waiter immediately suggested the cheapest in the Frontonais selection and it was seriously good! If you have been put off in the past - try it again.

Downside was very few other guests staying or dining which slightly spoilt the atmosphere. Upside was friendly staff, excellent service, relatively simply but very good food ( we were on a dinner B & B rate so did not try the a la carte menu), nice bedroom with ensuite and all in a pretty village near Albi and Carcassonne.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the countryside. You might also ask for a reasobably firm bed.

We were looking for a hotel near Carcassonne for a short break. We found this in an old Michelin guide and booked for 3 nights. It is small, just 15 rooms, but friendly and comfortable. We had room 15 which was small, with an equally compact bathroom, but contained everything we needed including good toiletries and lovely fluffy towels. It didn't matter how small the room was because the view from the window was immense.
As we arrived in the evening we made a reservation for dinner. Dinner was served on the open terrace with amazing views. The prices were more than you might expect in a hotel but this was not ordinary hotel food and the experience was well worth it. The service was charming and the food was exquisite. We ended up eating there every night. We appeared to be the only English people there and the restaurant was well used by the French. The menus are available online, there is a vegetarian menu and a local menu as well as other menus at different prices.
There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room and no English channels on the TV but that didn't bother me. Breakfast was continental but good quality. The village is pretty with lovely views over the surrounding countryside.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and considered this a real find.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have fantastic views over the countryside.

We were staying on a half board basis so had a dinner menu without choice for the five nights we stayed. Well cooked, beuatifully presented - good service. Only downside was that the wine list lacked a simple cuveee maison - aperitifs also a bit pricey. Great views from our room but lack of storage space for clothes - only a wardrobe, no drawers. Helpful, friendly staff. Good location.

Room Tip: Room 15 has good views but a little small with no storage space for non-hanging clothes.

Looking for a nice hotel not far from Carcassonne for a short stay at start of holiday. The auberge is small and friendly and in a lovely setting. The rooms are newly decorated, comfortable and well equipped and the lounge / bar area is pleasant.
The real discovery, however was the award-winning restaurant, where they serve serious food at serious prices. It was obviously a destination restaurant, as it was busy on both Monday and Tuesday nights. We had some excellent dishes - unusually in France there was a full vegetarian menu. Menus are on the website, there is also a la carte, so you can stick to a budget and still enjoy gourmet dishes. On sunny evenings, you dine on an open terrace overlooking the valley. Breakfast was excellent too.
The village was quiet and charming in an unspoilt way, with great views and some lovely old buildings. Perfect for a relaxing few days, but only 20 mins from Castelnaudary.

I stayed here with my husband and our two mother's who shared a twin bedded room. My mother complained that her sheets were dirty (unchanged) but this was never rectified and no-one at the hotel seemed at all concerned about this. Our room was small and poorly furnished. Breakfast could only be described as miserably poor. The only bread was sliced white, there were no bagguettes. The coffee and tea, despite being brought to order, were both cold. The fruit salad was elderly and the thinly sliced cheese was stck to the plate. Everything looked as if it had been laid the day before. The service was slow despite there only being two tables occupied. Altogether one of the worst B+Bs we have had in France,
